I loved the sim city series, but the last one was insanely difficult to get going, Every city just ground to a halt with MS Vista like complaint messages. It never got to be big enough to enjoy a disaster. Hope the new one has sorted that part out. I hope in the future EA sells this game to....Rockstar. Now imagine the possibilities *that* would unleash..
It looks like a pretty good game.. but it looks like the graphics lack A LOT of detail, a lot of the building looks very plain to me.
The voiceover is about as arrogant and perverse as the changed sadomasochistic gameplay. We are asked to celebrate other people's failure. We are being tricked into thinking a PUNITIVE GAME DESIGNER GOD is acceptable in a GOD GAME.
Obviously Maxis believe the new Simcity players from the FB social games are super dumb. Gamers of the world show them WHO is out of touch with reality.
we just want to see a good name no matter where its from EA or other ... and im really excited about this game ...it looks so cool
this is absolutely ridiculous. simcity was very little about actually coping with disasters and more about how best to destroy your city and revel in the sheer terror of residents. and then move back to a previous save and continue the building. no saves means if any disaster strikes, i'm not staring at the screen enjoying the terror. i'm frantically running about trying to mitigate the after effects after building my dream. seriously who wants to see their dearest love be wrecked and destroyed? this is dumb. not the simcity i loved anymore. fuck you ea. i'm sticking with 4 and its lovely mods.
I wish they would have left these stupid unrealistic disasters in the past... this is just ridiculous to have UFOs and monsters in the city, I hope it can be turned off and we can keep normal disasters like earthquakes, floods and fires.
Ah, remember playing SimCity yonks ago, so, this game actually piqued my interest. Until I read about the continual DRM. Bye bye, better luck next time, Maxis!
You know what's a city building game just as good or better than this one? Black and white 2. It was far from perfect, but at least it's already released..
I might buy this even with it's crappy DRM. I'm glad they made it a little more simplistic instead of tedious micromanagement. I like the original games, but I no longer have as much time to dedicate to these types of games.
Looks small and simple.... I like having the option to grow a giant city. Also what about non-nature disasters.... Nuclear plant explosion, stock market crash, medicine shortage/plague, invasion, rebellions, ect.
Was a cool video though..Kind of funny..Though like some poster down below newer disasters wouldve been awesome..Shame there not thinking out side the box on that one..How ever dont bother me if its online..Have a good internet connection any how...Diablo 3 didnt bother me online..Neither do any of my mmorpgs..
This doesn't look so bad, gameplay wise. While I hate being forced to stay online for solo games, I'm actually interested in the trades between cities so...
But it is still not alright in ANY mean. And I'd hate to support such a thing and because of that I'll feel bad while playing.
I've been waiting for this game forever, but SimCity is looking more and more like a disaster :( First online requirements, now it looks simple and boring. After all these years, couldn't they throw in some real challenges like oil spills, wars, financial crashes, climate crisis, political unrest, etc? It would have been cool to figure out how to build a city, facing real-world problems. I don't see much new or creative about this version.
unlike previous games, when you unleash a disaster on your city there's no reverting to previous saves... part of the fun of the disasters was letting them rip and then being able to just go back and keep building your city the way you want. realistic? maybe not...but this is a game not reality.
Oh, and this is most likely a consequence of requiring the game RENTERS to be online to play and save in the "cloud."
I dont even really care about the always online part. Im kinda more worried that the game will be too easy really.
@Epicurus-Reborn That and the destruction/physics.
@mohamedmounem Me too! Why else would I make comments slamming EA? If they made good games, you'd hear no hating from me, I assure you.
uh pay attention...that was the first thing they announced back in March
@aniforprez I love it.
@mike300zxt Holy balls, brilliant comment :O
@mike300zxt But that would mean adding complexity and EA doesn't like complexity, because all they care about is money and with non-standard "press X to win" games they won't make as much. (best example is Spore - Will Wright had an interesting vision for the game, EA and EA infected Maxis employees majorly simplified and ruined it)
- Terraforming ? Nope, too complex.
- Subways ? Nope, that's for DLCs.
- Large Maps ? Nope, more than 2 by 2 km is too complex or the engine can't handle it or bigger maps are for a later DLC.
- Playable offline ? Nope, can't spy on people's behaviors then.
... and so forth
But when it comes to making them money, they're all over it.
- Regional Building Packs ? Sure, full price DLC.
- Locking specific content for preorder boni ? Sure, perhaps enough customers are stupid enough to fall for it.
- Adding worthless DRM ? Sure, because our investors like that and screw it if our customers can't use the product.
- Forced Multiplayer ? Sure, because screw our customers, we need to sell the personal data we collect through our Origin DRM Trojan somehow.
If you're looking for a challenging city simulation / management game, this is not it and you'll have to wait for an indie developer (or independent studio) to dedicate themselves to developing one.
Pro-Tip : Perhaps, when SimCity 5 doesn't sell and the Maxis devs are fired (I mean freed) and open their own studio and create a "SimCity" they envisioned ...
You know, I still would've bought this new SimCity though because I liked the old Maxis, but all that bitter taste EA adds to it is just not worth the trouble and my time.
I rather keep playing SimCity 4 (and the older 3000), Cities XL (with mods) and Cities in Motion instead.
@mlcarter815 you love what? this game? if yes then go ahead and buy it and if you enjoy it, very good, i have no problem. if you love the last simcity and the mods, then i know you have good taste in games and have experienced the BEST in city simulations
