This really look amazing, I hope the game is at least as deep as the Sim City 4. There is a lot to do in a city, so making the game play deep shouldn't be too hard. I hope.
Warning to the legacy SimCity players - this is NOT the SimCity you know. This is a CityVille in 3D that you have to pay $60 + $40 DLC to play.
Legacy SimCity stuff removed from this new SimCity:
- Ability to NOT have your economy affected by other people is removed
- Ability to KEEP PLAYING and NOT subjected to server shut down is removed
- God mode removed
- Terraforming removed
- Huge maps removed
- Map Customization removed
- Position choice of Cities on the map removed
- Placing your connection where you like removed
- Placing your own intercity highway bridge rail connection removed
- Farms removed
- Ability to switch off disaster removed
- zoning density removed
SEE through all their word games and lies "there is solo mode" "there are rails" "there are bridges". Yes there ARE these things, NOT for players, but ONLY for Maxis.
The game is obviously ALIENATING core players and aiming straight at social gamers on FB. Good luck with that! CityVille 2 has just been released, and is in 3D and free, social gamers who like city-building will stick to their familiar safe playground and avoid EA's Origin SPYWARE like a plague.
Maxis, good job on destroying your legacy brand.
I can't wait for this game! I was addicted to the first Simcity, I have a feeling its going to happen again!
OMG, It's like christmas!! I have been playing Simcity since the beginning out in a cold room because back then, they tended to overheat.
I'm definately getting this game.
The last time I played SimCity was in 2000 when I was 10..it wasn't a lot of fun then but I attribute that to my lack of maturity and patience. I cannot wait to my hands on this :D
iv awalys wanted to play a Sim city. but for some reason i never had the oportunity to do so.. this one will be my first :) seems like a lot of fun. i hope someone makes mod that lets you navigate the city from a pedestrian perspective, or maybe that feature is already in the game? sry i haven´t been following this game closely.
First let me say that there are some nice tweaks and improvements over SimCity 4. But after all these years, I was hoping for something more than curved roads and superficial improvements. It really looks like SimCity 4.5. I was hoping they could make it a more realistic city simulator by throwing in realistic challenges, like oil spills, wars, climate change, political unrest, energy crisis, resource constraints, etc. Anno 2070 touches on some of these things. I've been a SimCity fan since version 1, but it kind of seems like it's fallen behind in terms of innovation. Also not a fan of the always online requirements, and no game saves. This will probably be the first SimCity that I don't buy.
was excited about the game til i saw u have to always be online...who can write a letter to maxis to tell them that is a bad idea but should be an online option for those that want to play it! smh!!
I love SimCity. They have been top dog for a long time. Then Anno came along and became a major competitor, in it's own type of world. Now Anno online is expected early next year. So I wonder, what can SimCity really offer that Anno can't. Let's see what you've got Maxis.
The internet connection thing killed it for me. it looks amazing but that is a game-breaker for me. I'm tired of all this big brother c**p sucking the fun out of just simply playing a freaking game!
I don't know if it's entirely new since I haven't played a Sim City game in quite a while but I'm quite intrigued by how power and water simply follow the roads.
This looks Awsome, I played all the sim city games but this looks like the best with the new GlassBox Engine. Can't wait to play the Beta.
I Was actually not interested in this until i saw the gameplay Very sweet :)
Then i seached and there is no offline mode =_=
EA trying racature the years where they were great. Nice. They need thier original game coders. Profit hounds dont make good games. Pleeeeease prove that I am wrong on this game. Sim City used to be a GREAT game.
I hope they fix the changes that sucked the fun out of building a cityin Simcity 4.
For example not having any way to dispose of garbage without a landfill whch for some reason costs a huge amount of money to buy and maintain.
Or how Sims only go out 4 blocks to look for work. In previous Simcities we wereable to place our industrial centers clustered on the other side of the map and everything worked just peachy. Suddenly they wanted us to cluster heavy industry in the same space as residential? That did not work.
Damn, the amount of research that must have gone into this. Only strange thing I noticed was the T section railway next to the casino near the end of the video. Pretty sure trains cant take 90 degree turns.
So...torn...I want a new Sim City so bad., but I am convinced this is going to disappoint me. I'll wait for the reviews to start rolling in.
Some nice features but am not buying this game for the following reasons.
Online only DRM. (Game will be canned after 18 months)
Requires Origin spyware DRM.
No offline mode.
Dumbed down game play.
No highways or subways.
No control over zoning density.
No control over regional transport.
Small maps. (Should call this game sim town 2 or even sim village)
No local game saves.
No longer a city simulator.
Like the water and sewage implementation
Like the curvy roads
Like the way the laying down of zones has been implemented
Glass box engine looks good.
"After they get their paychecks they'll try to spend their hard earned money to buy happiness" hahaha
Never tried SimCity before and ill definitely try it this time.
im into these types of games:)
@jackrg Yeah, the online aspect is something I'm not too fussed on. Hopefully it wouldn't be too taxing on the internet.
@SOKOLEK That's because most of your urban areas are hundreds or thousands of years old, so your cities are filled with very old buildings. This is not a bad thing, just saying you can't compare the two.
Also, if you've played any Sim City game in the past, you know that the first houses built ARE shacks in comparison to the homes that will spring up in older more established and affluent neighborhoods later in the game.
"Eeurope" cities are dirty shitholes. Do you need an Indian to cry on TV to get you to pick up your trash?
@SOKOLEK Actually.. pretty good point you make there.
what does that have to do with ANYTHING
@x-TwilighT-x I don't consider the Anno games city builders in the same way as the Sim City games. They're fantastic games in their own right but their focus is more on economy and supply chain simulation IMO. You don't have a lot of options for the civic side of life in Anno.
@x-TwilighT-x I too used to love SimCity 3000 and SimCity 4 but have since been completely taken in by the Anno series. Anno 1401 and Anno 2070 were some of the best city-building games ever. I lost several continuous weeks of my life to them, haha. I am excited about SimCity 2013, I think Maxis has a great opportunity to deliver here. I hope it turns out well!
@Ospon it's new(hadn't played in a while either but did again once i heard this was coming out) and i'm intrigued too not having to over build pipes or worry that a house is going to build in the middle of your residential area away from the road will make it a lot more user friendly.
they've sucked all kinds of things out of SimCity 4. The ability to play without internet, the ability to terraform your own regions, the ablity to place your own regional transportation connections, the ability to raze your city with a disaster and revert to a previous save...all because they're insistent on server and cloud-based gaming and multiplayer.
@brynhyfryd Canned after 18 months? You are being kind. I say 9 months.
@brynhyfryd Not final software. It might turn out okay once its out.
