It's not very hard to just turn the brightness down when you actually play it so I don't know why everyone is moaning
i will buy it. im a huge sh fan, im not GOING TO CRY - there is no fog, there is new texture [what tha hell have you expected its >10 years old game god damnit]. Its cool to play it again, look what they have changed. dont be a pu*sy. want old kind of sh ? turn on ps2. thank you
I think the old one looks better, because it had a fuzziness that hid the old graphics (low poly count).
Silent Hill 2 doesn't look too bad, but 3 is way to bright. The clips of the original here look a lot darker and more oppressive, it's a big part of the atmosphere.
Wow when I get this I'm gonna turn the brightness ALLLLLLL the way down... What were they thinking? High contrast makes it more realistic-looking, the new ones look washed out and flat.
Gonna wait to see Giant Bomb's quick look, but I don't like that they brightened it and made less fog, wasn't that the point of the originals?
This makes me think of how excited I was for Metal Gear Solid HD Collection. Konami tweaked the brightness and contrast, smoothed the edges a little and packaged the exact same games. As much as I love MGS, paying full price was a waste. It looks like they're doing the exact same with SH HD. I guess I'll be keeping my money this time.
o man the music is so amazing. the hd collection indeed does look too bright, but maybe some contrast / brightness tuning on the tv settings can fix it partially.
@Neo_Sarevok Buy the original Silent Hill 1 from PSN (if you got a Ps3). The Original has the strongest storyline from what I recall. SH2 was a little off the storyline, and more of a personal story to Harry (main star of SH1), then SH3 continues this personal storyline, but does it in such a way that it made it the best for me out of the 7 released titles so far. The upgrade in visuals wasn't what I had expected. I actually expected to see a much better job. From the two videos, it looks like we get more grey compared to anything else. The touch up looks alright, but the dull colors ruins it for me. It looks like the originals are much scarier since they are a lot darker, and have a lot more fog, and film filter all over the place. I will still get SH Hd, since it's going to be amazing to play through the game again. But I just feel like the Hd tune up wasn't all too perfect.
One thing I am concerned about is the price-tag. I know I said this has me interested - since I've never played a Silent Hill game before - but considering it's just two very old games with a questionable HD upgrade, then $50 or more would be a rip-off imo.
The cutscenes from Silent Hill 2 weren't remastered for HD resolution. It's still in its 4:3 SD ratio and stretched out on the new "HD" collection. Lousy job, Konami. LOUSY.
is this the xbox version?? why the image is so bright?no shades, look a lot worse than the originals...is geez that's like SH on daylight
I wish when they did videos like this they would do some gamma/contrast/brightness correction. It's the same as PS3 vs Xbox 360 comparisons, the PS3 runs a higher base gamma and everything looks washed out in screenshots, even though corrected on your TV it looks way better. My PS3 and Xbox inputs are crazy different regarding their saved picture settings.
Well, they certainly ruined the contrast in SH2 and took out a lot SH3's color saturation. And yes, this is what the PC version looks like, only with unruined contrast and much better color. Minus the awful resolution, the originals look better. Still 2 of my favorite games of all time though.
@Neo_Sarevok If you want a horror game that will stay with you for years to come, start with Silent Hill 2. Silent Hill 3 is an excellent follow up. If you're interested in games like this, I'd say this package is the best you're going to get.
I haven't played any of the Silent Hills, but visually, it looks like a great upgrade to me. I wasn't expecting stellar graphics anyways -- it's an HD improvement, nothing more. This might be a great way to introduce newcomers to the genre. It sure has me interested, especially with the lack of true horror genre titles recently.
sooo... it looks like the pc version??? no extra textures or models? just higher rendering resolution and crappier shaders????
@mickyfinn84 yea I agree, what have they done to the lighting?? Gota love that sound track though :)
Grain filter adds to the gritty atmosphere. Without it SH looks too calm, too neat, too clean to be effectively creepy. I like the filter.
