See our Game of the Month winner for July 2014
July 2014 has come and gone, and it wouldn't have made much of a mark on video game history if not for a few standout games, especially the one we picked as Game of the Month.

I'm so glad this game is getting attention. I really think it deserves it 8D. I'm just waiting for the new companions to be released before I continue with my second playthrough now.
@stormswrath As much as i would love to go on a rant about this being a PC exclusive and you should buy a gaming rig if you want to play it i won't rather i will agree with you. i think more people should get a chance to play this awesome game i believe if it gets more recognition from more people it may cause a ripple effect through the games industry and more deep and thought out games will come out as a result of it
one can dream
@mr_nee Oh right. I guess I'm being presumptuous by saying GOTY. Actually what other games are we expecting to get at least 9/10 this year? I think Destiny is so hyped that it won't be as perfect as people are expecting. Dragon Age has been delayed twice, so maybe that's a bad omen. What else are we really waiting for this year?
DIVINITY ORIGINAL SIN IS THE GAME OF THE YEAR! JUST FINISHED AFTER 150 HS! THIS IS THE BEST RPG EXPERIENCE SINCE PLANESCAPE TORMENT! LARIAN GAMES SHOULD BE CONGRATULATED!
Damn right this is game of the month! It's game of the year from what I've seen and played so far, I doubt any other will top it.
Im not an "old school" gamer. whatever that is.
but i like rpgs in general specially time sinking top down one's.
would i like this Divinity game..??
@GregoryBastards Well everybody else seems to like it, so yeah probably!
@GregoryBastards One of the things that makes the game so particularly great is the way its world and gameplay take old school ideals and philosophies and applies modern design capabilities to it. It has the breadth and depth you should expect from a cRPG. Great tactical turn-based combat with expansive dialogue and choice whilst in the world. Really the main negative is that you'll get sick of a few NPC's saying the same thing over and over.
@GregoryBastards I found it tedious and boring after a while. Not worth $40.
I've just clocked in 50 hours and i'm just in the 2nd town. Holy crap the 2nd location is so beautiful.
I really really hope that civilization: beyond earth wins game of the year this year but I won't mind if divinity does. It's on GOG too which means it gets a huge plus from me.
I hear this game takes like 80 hours just to get started and learn the basics...don't know, but if that really is the case I must avoid this game at all costs. Ever since I've played an unhealthy amount of Skyrim I try to stay away from huge time sink games like that. These days I like games that can be completed in 16-20 hours but still have some sort of replay value.
I'm getting soft...
@warriors30 Nope, took me 100 hours to beat it, 2-3 hours was learning, rest was having a blast. If you have played any old school rpgs and not just started with mdoern rpgs you will get a hang of the game within a few hours easy.
It takes only a few hours to learn. Not THAT hard.
also all the games im w8ing fro are 2015 :P
no man sky, witcher 3 and seems DA:I and mass effect was well
This game was actually boring. I did play it, but it is tedious. I come from old school games period; butI prefer today's RPG,s.
@Gomtor So you go play those, we don't need to know that you prefer the dating simulator crap they're selling of as modern RPGs these days...
@Gomtor Dont worry more of the same action rpg that you love will come again and again and again from the same publishers, meanwhile we will enjoy divine divinity O.S for hundreds of hours :)
@Gomtor It has been at least ten years since the end of the cRPG era, and almost 15 since its heyday. I suppose it is fair that your sensibilities would have changed over the course of time? I love the combat in OS, and the story/side-stories always have enough going on that I never feel I'm getting bogged down or stuck without any progression.
@Gomtor GOMTOR go back to your super mario games dude. You dont know RPGs. Noob
@4kgamer_lmxxx Oh no, someone's opinion is different than yours! Attack! Attaaaack!
@archav3n some gamers evolve.
@SalmusCrown Did I hurt your feelings for not liking your game? Noob.
Lets be honest July sucked. End of. And August and September isn't much better.
Wake me up in October.
@megablast16 Let's be honest... your opinion isn't fact. Get over yourself.
@megablast16 Nope, best rpg in years came out, Divinity Original Sin.
July was wonderful for me, got the best rpg in 10 years!
@kozzy1234 i would say old school RPG of the last ten years i think skyrim is an amazing new age RPG but that is just me
I don't understand how THIS is game of the month... Bioware said the industry has moved on from Baldur's Gate and NWN. Bioware said people like color coded endings, linear/reused environments and FIRST PERSON ACTION! Why would Bioware steer me wrong!? ...oh right, they sold out to EA and make garbage games now.
@simsumre Bioware is right. The dudebros, movie hipsters and shooter kiddies that the industry now caters to wouldn't even be able to play this game.
@simsumre Shhh, shhh, there, there. Bioware didn't lie to us. They'll keep saying it until it is true, just like Crytek kept telling us gamers only care about great graphics until it was t.. oh, wait?
@simsumre Not the industry, but Bioware. They moved from deep clever games for adults to shallow dumb games for kids and teens...
@kozzy1234 I fell you bro....but Goty this year would most probably be Destiny....at Gamespot atleast.
@kozzy1234 Almost definitely. The only other game I've been as absorbed in was Wolfenstein. Special mentions to Banner Saga and South Park though.
