Obviously a lot of people here haven't played VanillaWare's other games (GrimGrimoire, Odin Sphere, Muramasa, etc.) and don't know their style. It's storybook fantasy meets old school hack-n-slash a la GOLDEN AXE... with lots of RPG elements and co-op mixed in. If lack of modern fluid movement in a hack-n-slash bothers you that much, go play an inferior game. VanillaWare games are amazing.
the characters look stiff, the 2d scrollers like guacamelle and rayman has so fluid moments why not make more fluid movements , it looks like the characters in this game had shit in their pants.
It'll be like playing at the arcade again!!!!! SOMEONE GET ME SUPER BATTLETOADS!!!!! Oh wait thats owned by Rare...... NEVERMIND.
I love these kinds of games but honestly... I feel it just needs some upgrades to the characters fluid movements. graphics. I mean its just like playing golden axe with better graphics.... This is the PS3. Make the characters movements fluid.... Not all choppy and pre-rendered....
Other then that the game looks great though. I would def buy day 1 back in the 90's. But today this games like $20 to me.
Gotta say the game looks good but living through the 90s and playing tons and tons of side scrollers back then I gotta say I'm just not into these games anymore I may pick this up once it hits ten bux or less but not gonna pay forty for it though.
There's so much information on this game now that the Japanese version is out. I want this game so bad!
Im laughing my ass out of butthurt people bellow. Yeah probably CoD to spoiled you. Day 1 for me. It looks better than 90% of games in last year.
I guess I've been too spoiled by the current generation of games. This looks too "old school" to appeal to me. Disappointing... I'm always on the look out for another good game for the Vita.
Epic Golem vs Golem battle! I like how you have to defend your Golem before it gets to throw down with the other one!
The video content was so rich but the only thing i could see is the ass.
Dat ass is in a different league
Finally Gamespot shows DC some love... It drops August 6th.
This game has cult classic written all over it. :D
@Blakey856 lets see... vanillaware and atlus... yeah an xbox release is on its way.
@rIVAL_sWORD84There's actually a pretty impressive number of poses for each character, and given that every frame is hand drawn, it's unsurprising they wouldn't use an excessive number to represent something like walking. Also consider there's a pretty impressive amount of character detail (and 6 different classes) compared to Guacamelee and Rayman. I can pretty much guarantee Vanillaware put a lot more work into animating these characters than Drinkbox or Ubi, but they're also very different sorts of games produced by studios with very different design philosophies.
If you're interested, Dtoid had a preview of the artbook a while ago, one of the pages showed off some of the poses they used for character animations. Here's the link:
Aerial magic ftw hehehe
@rIVAL_sWORD84 don't like it don't buy it.
@RPG_Fan_I_Am They are 60fps http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2013/13/1364224242-9.gif
does it look choppy? even as a dropframe gif looks it fluid
they're not prerendered, they're actually polygons, did you never played odin's sphere or muramasa? i guess too much cod/fifa for you then.
@Kyrylo Anything is better than that crap. Im surprised people still buy it. Fish AI? Being able to play as a dog? Sliding? The last one sounds interesting but its not "revolutionary" to FPS, activision. Dishonored beat you to it, Im afraid.
@Kyrylo same here
@Pre_ordered_PS4 I thought it was only for ps vita.
@Hadif151 You should check out the Witch. She's ....well..just look at a picture.
@Hadif151 ID BUY THAT FOR A DOLLAR
@Ballroompirate Day 0!
@forkandplate why? because it's not COD or fifa?
@forkandplate its not
@kohle36 i agree with you that the characters are more detailed in this game in character design, maybe i will buy in future, i guess yes i cant compare the games like guacemelle to this since that is toon like animation and this is Japanese hand drawn animation like king of fighters and such.
@ZombieGuy78 thanks for the tip i will save some money.
@rIVAL_sWORD84 when I think of old days...This moves are much more detailed. Just compare amount of sprites on this game and on some old one.
@Kyrylo thank you so much for your comment fyi i used to design 3d models in lightwave 3d and zbrush and i used to animate 2d animation work on flash. i completely understand the hand drawn part as well as 2d sprites. I myself used to bake textures in lightwave for 3d walkthroughs, All i was saying was the animation was not fluid, now i know 2d games like king of fighter have hand drawn content like the new king of fighter on ps3 but i prefer the fluid movements like some previous games had in the arcade days they used to have 2d sprites eg: Cadillac and dinosaurs and the punisher.
@kohle36 also, as far as i know rayman sprites are made in 3d, then baked into textures. and for what i know, guacamelee is made in flash.
vanillawre's games are hand drawn from scratch and it's not like a bad thing but making a gradient in in flash is just a click and drag, and making a shield in dragon's Crown is made by several hours of strokes in photoshop. and it looks like it'll have dozens, if not hundreds of different shields, hammers, swords, bows, etc.
That's cool, everyone has their own aesthetic preferences and takes on what they like. This is definitely done in a very old-school style, but then, that's pretty much Vanillaware's mission statement - to keep making great looking 2D games.
Personally, I'm glad they're still doing something that most other studios gave up on almost 2 decades ago, albeit with modern conveniences like HD and more robust rpg systems. Also, Odin Sphere and Muramasa were super good, so this is a day 1-buy for me (I pretty much only do that with smaller studios I want to support).
If you ever do pick it up, I hope you enjoy it. Maybe we'll kick some orcish ass together. I call sorceress though. For...reasons.
