Keeping my fingers crossed for this one.. but I fear its not going to be as epic as we all want it to be.
The real question is ..can i go into any town and destroy it or can i attack any player at any time regardless of their level? If i cannot then this game is a failure and not Elder Scrolls f**K asking for a duel!!
mega server? World must be gigantic otherwise it might get a little crowded with hundreds of thousands of characters running around
I'am a big fan of Elder Scrolls and i love Skyrim and tho i have big hopes for this am worried it wont provide the same kind of exploration and immersion i know from Oblivion Morrowind and Skyrim , well just have to wait and see i guess.
I usually play Elder Scrolls games for the environment and setting. I always felt the combat to be a bit wonky, but the huge game world has always kept me interested, I guess it is that sense of adventure or whatever. So, I guess we'll have to see.
As for MMO games as a whole, it comes down to quests when I decide how long to play. Like pretty much everyone, I can only take so many 'gather X number of Y and bring to Z' type quests.
If EveOnline can use one mega server to host Eve and Dust 514 on two different platforms i'm sure Elders will do fine.
Skyrim was a big disappointment. I know it won prizes over prizes over prizes... But in the end all you get with Skyrim is shallow MMORPG gameplay offline. The Elder Scrolls series has become a casual shadow of its former glory. All they care for now is how to make more money. And it is unfair that much better games than Skyrim, like Witcher 2 and Reckoning were overshadowed by Bethesda's aggressive marketing tactics. That's why I am very happy about ESO. MMO market is the most competitive one. Guild Wars 2 and Neverwinter will eventually become the only big MMOs after WOW's demise. There is no place for mediocre casual 5hit like the new Elder Scrolls series there. Bethesda will go bankrupt. Pride comes before the fall. Justice will prevail in the end. Just wait and see.
Really looking forward to this one, been a big Elder Scrolls fan for years. Day 1 purchase for me here.
Its hilarious how many people are hating on this while deep down praying with all there hearts that they are wrong.
The one big server should be interesting, I could flop big time or be great. Aion tried have big battles with hundreds at once it was just a big lag fest of chaos.
I love the Elder Scrolls, but I dont like MMOs. This is a problem for me, but I do think I will play this game if it is free to play like Guild Wars 2.
I hope it works out for this game, but I have my doubts. The attitude they take to their customers will be crucial, if they go the typical big corporation revolving door policy to subscribers ( where they continually try to appeal to newer customers to get fresh wallets through the door, rather than treat the subscribers they already have with respect and tailor the game to them ) route then it will likely end up with all the appeal of a McDonalds happy meal, plastic food + plastic toy = plastic joy.
Concept is awesome; let's hope it's fun and made well. Good to know that it's been in development for so long.
Yeah, not interested. Too much MMO, not enough spectacular mountains and vistas and caves. It looks like a decent MMO formula, but that formula runs contrary to the heavy detail that makes an Elder Scrolls game an Elder Scrolls game. If you can't swipe all someone's stuff when they are looking right at you because you have a high enough sneak, it isn't a worthy Elder Scrolls game. I'm guessing that it will go the way of The Old Republic: a deterministic MMO formula with a fancy coat of paint and recycled music.
i honestly have no idea on how it will do but i have to get it regardless cause im such a giant elders scroll fan.....
Really looking forward to this. It's a pity the community ruin these games. Full of absolute tools. I'd like to see in game moderators with the ability to ban people for X amount of minutes if there acting like nobs and breaking immersion. Which is pretty important in Scrolls games.
"Mega server" are they allude its possible to play Australians, Europeans and Americans at the same time without lag/micro delays, not to mention connecting everybody at the same time ? How they gonna cope with unintentional DDOS ? Well, this is gonna be the most challenging technological issue in gaming history.
@ozimandeus I`m afraid U may be right.
@SDSkarface You haven't really been able to do that since Oblivion anyway. Story characters and merchants became invincible and the guards in towns are now 100 times more powerful than your "great hero" of a character. Sadly. you are expecting something that Elder Scrolls has no longer been for many years now.
@izTamz search in youtubeThe Elder Scrolls Online NEW Gameplay Preview - First person, combat and more!
@izTamz It can be. They've been showing gameplay videos of playing 1st person, and it's looking more and more Skyrim each time. But it looks like 3rd person is the main focus.
@METALERO Not with how much content needs to be hosted server side along with all players needing any mod content to be able to interact.
@Michael1571 You state your opinion as if it's a fact and everyone else should believe the same as you. Although you may not like it, the majority of people would disagree and say Skyrim was fantastic- that's why it won so many awards. Don't get me wrong, the Witcher 2 and Reckoning were great games, I just don't think they brought anything new to the table, Skyrim had a deep world that truly encouraged exploration and was something not many people had experienced before, that's why it got all the attention. ESO's premature popularity will get it very far and no MMO's had that before except for WoW, so saying it'll be unsuccessful is like saying the next Assassins creed will flop, it just can't happen, its way too popular.
And if you'll allow me to add my own opinion (and excuse me for being a little biased), say the Witcher's better all you want but, KOA: Reckoning is better than Skyrim? Are you out of your mind? That game is spewing the "shallow MMORPG offline gameplay" you so callously accused Skyrim of having. And since the Witcher 2's so much better, explain to me why the Witcher 3 is taking inspiration from Skyrim.
@Michael1571 Bethesda will go bankrupt if ESO failed? What kind of mushroom did you eat again today...
@Michael1571 First of all, I've played both Kingdoms of Amalur and the Witcher 2. I might give you that the Witcher 2 is better than Skyrim, but not Kingdoms of Amalur. It depends on what you like. And no, Skyrim wasn't a dissapointment. If you've ever played Oblivion or Morrowind which I think you did if you see it fit to draw such a conclusion, you would know that Skyrim is an excellent game. Now you say WoW's demise... I'm sorry to say it, I really am. I think we have to wait for a long time for that to happen (I want to see it dead too). And why do you think that Neverwinter will be any better than ESO? And it is also quite an idiotic statement that Bethesda will go bankrupt. Apparently you think you speak for everybody in the world. You don't like ESO? Fine, don't buy it. I'm sure that you are the one person keeping Bethesda alive(!) I know that at least a million people are going to play the game after the release (ESO's official FB-page has over a million likes). So stop bringing up bullshit like that and go back to playing Neverwinter or Guild Wars 2.
@NightStein well u will get that eventually. This is its own thing
@SpookyHoobster It might not go well not because it's an elder scroll MMO but it might not fair well because of the same problem that MMO's suffers from. People will play or at least try it but time will tell if the zenimax created a monster or created "a monster hit".
@SpookyHoobster Nice to know that there is a time traveler among us. Please share ur knowledge o knower of the unknown.
@SpookyHoobster It will do well whether its good or not is another matter, people will buy into it just because its Elder scrolls.
@veryfrost Ya having just one server is retarded, I wont get my hopes up for its launch day..
@veryfrost From how I understand it, this Mega Server is still a large number of servers. But they are set up in conjunction of various areas as opposed to sets of players.
@Michael1571 Skyrim has an advantage against witcher2 because of its Modding community that is making skyrim a game playable for quite a long time. im still playing it from time to time and enjoying it.. while witcher 2 cant replicate this experience even though it is also a great game. But on amalurs... :/ everyone has there own opinion and ill say that amalurs was just an average game compared to the 2...
