Some time back i was playing Star Wars: Knights of the old republic. I was probably 10-15 hours in, and was really hooked. I came home one time really drunk and felt like playing, I played for over an hour and i think i did a good job too since i progressed much in the story, finished a few quests (some even from start to finish) and so on. The only problem was when i woke up, i didn't recall playing at all. When i opened the game i realized i've played for an hour and not remembering anything..! New items, new quests and a totally random fella fighting alongside me. Had to open a previous save game to make any sense.
Drink and play responsibly people!! :D
Hmm though I do not care about the ones who like alcohol, that sounds like a miraculous accomplishment.
just DJ hero,... nahh, that game wasn't worth the four bucks i spent. shoulda' bought a booster pack of magic cards.
From my personal experience I can say that I usually play League of Legends while drinking, and I gradually get worse and worse at everything in the game, especially CSing.
I thought it was already a well established fact that alcohol makes you worse at games & smoking weed makes you much much better.
Seems to work for me anyway :)
Failed experiment. You picked a shitty game, you had 2 groups of people with different level of skill, and you required everyone in the alcohol group to drink a minimum of 2 drinks. You did not test how people played when only lightly intoxicated, the game doesn't test eye hand coordination, and you should have tested with only 1 group: once when they were sober, and the same group again at different levels of intoxication, then compare how the alcohol effected each person compared to when that person was sober.
Yeeahh... definitely need a control group bigger than three. I expect folks will get better regardless of which group they are in simply because they're learning the game. You can pull that out by comparing against the control group.
Next year, the double blind version! You'll need to figure out a way to get people drunk without you or them knowing they have gotten drunk. It could be a tad tricky but I'm sure you're up to it. ;)
I don't know what to say actually. I never been drunk.
but still I'll just treat this as a warning. I Hot-headed enough as it is. I don't need no stinking Liquor to enhance it.
I gotten drunk plenty of times while playing games. Sometimes it makes it funner. Especially if the game is a weak ass rental. But Cam I am disappointed in your alcohol selection. Where is Johnny Walker blue label. How come there is no Patron Tequila. At least make moonshine.
I don't drink. I will say though, there are many places here in this video that you can pause it and make Cam look drunk, which is fitting.
One day I tried to play mafia II while drunk, it didn't work xD . The aim was very hard to move, IDK if it was reverse (like go up and the aim goes down) but I had a very hard time on xbox, thought I couldn't play anymore. So, for me, I think drunkness doesn't work hahaha
Very good episode btw
Fantastic episode, and evidence we need drunken live streams... Make it so Gamespot.
As someone who usually stumbles home from the pub a little bit... merry, and attempts to play Rocksmith or some form of fighting game at stupid 'o clock in the morning, I can safely say alcohol does NOT improve guitar or gaming skills.
This is a fantastic episode. I really enjoyed watching it, as I'm sure you all enjoyed making it! I remember when Ace Combat 6 came out, my XBL friends would occasionally call me Coren Drunken. I'd walk to the bar, stay a few hours, and walk home to play. Strangely enough, I'd pull in 20,000+ points using SAAMs in an F-14 (using normal controls, not novice). To this date, those were the most fun times I had playing games with friends.
Floating around in my reaver in Planetside 2 looking for targets with a glass of wine (or whatever) by my side is a joy. One of my most fluid dogfights was last week and I was a bit buzzed.
In James Mitchener's "The Bridges of Toko Ri" about the Korean war, if you got shot down in the water you wanted the Irish-American (think Dum Dum Dugan) to come fish you out. If you were landing on an aircraft carrier, you wanted the dude who snuck in a golf bag filled with beers to land you: big ol' corn-fed bubba whose belly full of beer kept him in tune with the rise and fall of the vessel with the waves.
Is it true? I don't know but I'm going to believe the guy who wrote the "Drifters" over, say, Dr. Drew.
Great show Cam :) Loved this episode. As for myself - i noticed that if im get up in the morning pretty drunk from last day party my Counter-Strike skills are improved. I'm more accurate and my reaction time is more improved. Just opinion :)
Perhaps you're the best to do this Cam, or maybe someone else but I would like to see someone explore physics in GTAV and include wind if there is any.
Based on experience booze really fucks with my gaming skills. But I'm gonna go have a drink now, for Science!
on a serious note, I've done this, "experiment" myself on nights where no social events happened. Playing games on PC like Guitar Hero, I have more fun since its not competitive. My reaction time does slow down once I increase my intake but I am able to react faster wen I play on a higher difficulty in which my fingers must move faster. Now, competitive games like BF or CS, my reaction is much faster on moderate amounts. after awhile, I stop caring my reaction time slows down, I rage and then I say, "fuck this, I'm playing guitar hero"
again, great episode. I'm sure your friends and colleges' had a blast.
I've noticed that when I play Pinball Arcade sober, I suck. With wacky weed, I average like 4x the sober score.
Cam, you should have used the Wii for your experiment. I heard that drunk people playing with the Wii are hilarious. :-P
@analgrin depends on the strength of whatever your poison
@Zloth2 count me in.
@Zloth2 Yeah, that might be a little illegal to drug people without their approval. Alcohol also interacts with drugs and can be dangerous to a person taking pain and other medication - but go right ahead if you find involuntary manslaughter exciting.
@kierwinyoung You're 15, aren't you
Planetside 2, however, is the exception. I enjoy most other games LESS if drinking. My attention span just isn't there.
@WolfgarTheQuiet Less brain damage? Really?
@Quansword Hahaha yes--and Seb in general on this!
@ggregd maybe you should watch it
@Arthur_fr@WolfgarTheQuietWeed might increase some paranoia, but alcohol is heavily linked to amnesia i.e. Korsakoff's syndrome. Explains why you can't remember the previous night ;) It can get worse than that, though.
Alcohol has always been known to be the more dangerous drug, mentally and physically.
@Coren_Larken@QuanswordIt looks like Seb is a cheap drunk. Probably the most entertaining though, I would buy him a beer.
