Diablo 3 is a joke.  As stated, this game was in development for A LONG TIME.  Blizzard couldn't even nail the visual style in all of this development time, let alone the story, game progression, itemization, etc., etc.

Flop of the decade IMO.

Thank you!!! These companies are just using lack of tech as an excuse for sacrificing quality gameplay in the name of profiteering. Sure, next-gens might increase capabilities, but the improvement would be negligible next to the potential they continue to squander with the tech they already have. If they continue their lack of focus on innovative gameplay mechanics and making games that appeal to their most dependable market (serious gamers), instead using peripheral persuasion techniques to lure casual socialites into social media platforms, this ironically degenerating industry will quickly stifle and subvert all creativity in the name of so much spam (i.e. pokemon). This gen DOES have the capability to handle so much more than what major developers, with their profit-geared marketing schemes, actually apply to it. That said, it's like my dream job to do PR and advertising for a gaming company :(D

I can't believe it, but I agree with Tom on the Blizzard being evil. How is it that this game has been in development for so long and have so many bugs and is released half finished?

Also, how is it that the PC community defends this company and their always online practices? When it is was the PC community who was up in arms when Ubisoft starting doing this years before.

interessting. thanks for posting.

we'll see how gaming will develope in the next few years.

will people get tired of smartphones and online and buy a new console again ?

at this time (speaking as  a game-developer myself) the business is really hard but on the other hand quite open.

IMO a very interessting time period for gaming and its future.

cheers

The whole backlash and over-reacting about D3 is just obnoxious. The game has not been in development for 10 years. All games have bugs, esp when you have millions of people purposely trying to exploit every possible thing they can find.  Im mind blown!?  Really someone tried to use 2 spells at the same time at the start of a cut scene and no one caught that?!  I would assume thats the first thing everyone tried to do. Get over it software and hardware are CONSTANTLY evolving. Get off you high horse, quit judging in hindsight something you were not even involved in making.

I think they nailed it when he said Nintendo is the best at making Nintendo games...I loved Mario and Zelda up until N64, after that, I dunno, maybe I grew out of it?  I'm not sure why I have no interest in Mario games since I was a kid, but I don't, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.  Nintendo has some of the most die hard fans out there, problem is, that die hard Mario fanbase that will buy every new game from a Nintendo IP is shrinking, I'm not saying get rid of those games, but maybe roll the dice a little, expand...make some new IPs, they obviously know what they're doing, why not try and make something new?  Branch out a little nintendo!  A man can't live on Mario and Zelda games alone, just sayin.

EA and Blizzard are the essence of all evil of what's going on in the industry today. They totally forgot games and consumers and are all in for the profit while it lasts.

They just don't care about what they have to ruim it in the process.

Ha... at 7:19 that's Apogee Stadium, home of the UNT Mean Green... my alma mater.  Guess they're included for roster sake because we've pretty much always sucked at football. :)

From what I've seen in the stores, the people buying football games aren't generally the type who keep up on gaming news or care about the gaming industry as a whole; they're people who like football or like to have the latest cool sports game. I'm not sure those people will care about supporting competition just for the sake of it, like Brendan says.

Well Diablo 3 was great until I hit 60 and then got into Inferno. It then became boring, monotonous, and incredibly frustrating that I had no way to advance other than luck. Luck to get a good enough item to sell on the auction house to get gold to buy something on the auction house, so that I can progress a very small amount. It was great until the progression turned into meaningless raiding and stupid exploits and bugs. I guess since I refused to use exploits to get good items, this game became boring for me.

Great show folks.Yeah, I really disagree with the full online stuff with D3. It just causes more problems. What they should do is what Dungeon Defenders did. Have a offline mode, an online unranked mode, and an online ranked mode. Folks would still be able to play offline if they desire. Those who want to play online would have that option as well. Then if there is a ranked mode, that would be devoted for those who want to use the store(something I also disagree with)/ranked high scores and the like. This system would allow both offline play and online play without a big fuss.

I really don't understand why anybody is contemplating this. Nintendo is not quite the same type of company as Sega. Nintendo has never attempted to be a hardcore gaming company. The way they develop themselves is with the idea of Family Entertainment in mind. This is what made the Wii such a big seller when it first came out. It appealed to the non-gamers. Now yes, phones and tablets are infringing on Nintendo territory there, but I'm pretty confident Nintendo still has some tricks up it's sleeves. Regardless, if Nintendo stops making hardware, they will die completely. It was and is their novel and innovative hardware that has kept them around this long. The weakness of Nintendo is their seeming inability to work with other companies. Do any of you remember when Nintendo was supposed to come out with the Nintendo CD system as a follow up to the SNES. They were working with Sony on the project, but Sony pulled out and made the playstation instead. Nintendo, needs to play nice and maybe not compromise their family friendly vision, but augment it a bit.

" the day Nintendo starts  making games for smart phones is the day the gaming indusrty dies" lol. A little dramataic  no?

Theres loads more people making great games, that we dont have to rely on Nintendo, I actually havent really played  a Zelda or Mario game since the N64 era tbh, i hated the new ones ( i did try them), i felt they lost something from back in the day, which is funny cause they almost the exact game , except with slightly better graphics, and more outlandish stories. Maybe i grew out of that stuff or they have failed at improving the formula, i think its the latter as i can still play Link to the Past, with a huge smile, but that could just be nostalgia

This is gonna shock people but I really think its the wii, thats wrong with the gaming world (well among other things, they aboslutely right about Microsoft, but lets stay focused on Nintendo for now), since other companies will see the untapped marker of nubs and starts catering to them like Nintendo did with the wii, I mean come on, the wii was clearly an attempt by Nintendo to move away from making great games and offer someting to the masses. i appluad them for doing it in away thats super cheap  and highly effective, but dont kid yourself in to thinking Nintendo is still some highly ethical, super commited to quality , hero of the gaming world, cause they clearly not. They just have a very good image, and die hard fans who beleive they can do no wrong lol.

Hopefully the gaming industries beleives its already recruitred all the nubs they could and go back to making more challenging, complicated  games again! Let the samrt phines be the place for nubish games, and out Pcs and consoles be the hardcore , ehm place.

All i can say to the die hard Nintendo fans is to come on in  to the future of games, the waters fine!

amar1234
amar1234

"what does that say about the industry , when making great games is not enough", says its just like every other business these days, especially the music making inudstry, where making songs is usualy seen as nothing more than a way in to other things. I agree it sucks, but are you for real, that your suprised by that? Its how the world is run these days, theres just too many people involved in projects, all wanting fat pay cheques, that they have no choice but  to squeeze every penny out or they fail.

The average games company cant rely on the old model, of getting loans and praying their game sells come realease day. Those comapnies have all but died out now, they either died a slow harsh death or were bought up by someone with money!

Also as long as the Shig is around, i highly, highly doubt anything too drastic will happen at Ninitendo, theres no way he would allow his compnay to become a third party team.

Either it wil happen after hes gone or he will leave the company because it happens. I really wonder what quality those marior and zelda games will have when they have to be rushed to be made for the holdiay season , rushed cause they have to be made for 4 systems, and all that without the shigs input. Just look how far  Sega's Sonic fell from his 16 bit "contender against Mario" era, to where it is now. Thats what will happene to Zelda and Mario.

I dont own a wii, and will never buy one, so at first I would love to be able to get a Mario or Zelda game for my PC (well i already can lol, but lets pretend we cant :P), but for my reasons above its obvious its a bad move for quality, the whole reason to wanna play those games will vanish if they ended up on my pC. Maybe they might be able to give us a decent title the first time they do it, but by the their second, third title im 100% sure quality will drop down in the southern hemisphere.

The bugs that keep surfacing in D3 with each update is karma biting Blizzard in the ass.

Used to love their games but the direction the company is moving in now is a joke. I'm happily avoiding anything that comes out from Blizzard from here on out. They could go bankrupt and I wouldn't care less. The crap they tried pulling with D3 and sugar coating it all by saying it was there to enhance the user's experience (online drm, rmah, etc..) were enough nails to seal the coffin. GG Blizzard.

If D3 pans out to be anything like D2, it's gonna have tons of bugs and exploits discovered over the years. On D2 they finally pretty much just gave up and went to a ladder system that resets every now and then.

I picture a guy in from of a dam, desperately trying to plug the holes that keep popping up, and running out of fingers and toes.

Nintendo is lookin like it's going the way of the sega do-do..As for Diablo 3?If you were hardcore into Diablo 2 that auction house makes sense..And this game did not take 10 years to make..

This Diablo thing has been blown WAY out of proportion. Wow, so a Blizzard game had a glitch. Unheard of /cough. Obviously it'll be patched, and soon I'm sure. And if the aftereffects really were that bad, then I'm sure Blizzard will recompense some way.

I don't think Blizzard is "evil" either. They are a major corporation who acts like a successful major corporation. So in a sense...yes, thats evil. But that's unfair to the actual developers, who matter most in all of this, who are just gamers trying to make a good game. They don't "thrive" off addiction like good ol' McShea is so convinced of. If you don't like Starcraft or World of Warcraft, that's cool. But that doesn't mean the people who created it, not necessarily the people who sustain it, are soul sucking monsters.

Think of it like Zynga in the 90s. Blizzard started off like Zynga, but they DID have a long term plan. And this is what it has become. Like you said, EA is not necessarily evil, just lazy. And I can agree with that. Blizzard isn't necessarily evil, just successful, and I guess for some people that translates to evil.

@Snakepond1 First off, I'd like to say...I'm mad at Blizzard too. I'm absolutely disappointed with D3 both because of its half functionality and its always online requirement. Having said that, there are some good explanations to answer your questions. The simple answer to why Diablo 3 sucks is that Blizzard North (the Diablo 1 and 2 team) didn't make it. They quit and made their own company partially through the development of Diablo 3. I've been following this since Diablo 3 was first announced so many years ago. Vivendi (Blizzard's parent company) had issues with the art direction Blizzard North was heading in. They thought Diablo 3 was too bleak and not colorful enough and didn't match the branding of other Blizzard games. 2 of the members of Blizzard North ended up founding Runic Games and released Torchlight...which is why I'm so geeked about Torchlight 2. I find it fairly ironic that Torchlight is even more cartoony than Diablo 3. Needless to say, Blizzard started over with the development of the game. This is why Diablo 3 has such a World of Warcraft flavor. I don't think they quite had a feel for the flavor of the franchise. This is also why they focused so much on the multiplayer aspect which in truth is why Diablo 2 stayed popular for so long. I think the major difference between what Blizzard has done as opposed to Ubisoft is that Ubisoft requires always online but offers no actual reason for being online. Assassin's Creed has no multiplayer functionality and has no social element that would warrant such a requirement. People defend Blizzard's choice for Diablo 3 because it does enhance certain elements of the game, and is not there just to thwart piracy and second hand game sales.  Once again though, I agree with you. I've never played Diablo 2 online and don't want to, and I resent what has happened to the franchise.

 @bluefox755

They do, but the thing with the way the industry is heading, it's becoming harder to release new IPs without a huge risk of it bombing.

I do believe that with the Wii U's NintendoLand and MiiVerse, it'll allow Nintendo to give us more games from their other franchises along with some new IP because Nintendo can use those two to gauge interest in each franchise so if say the F-Zero game is getting the most attention and positive reaction, it'll give Nintendo the green light to release a full blown game that'll should guarantee success.

NintendoLand can also serve as a testing ground for new IPs, if people react to it badly, well then back to the drawing board but if the reaction is positive, it pretty much relieves the risk of bombing.

McAndrew_basic
McAndrew_basic

Wow wow wow... you can't put EA and Blizzard together.  Look at how many EA games there are and then look at how many Blizzard games there are.  EA is just a factory that pumps out garbage.  They also purchase other factories and turn them into trash machines as well.   Blizzard on the other hand take their time to make quality games.  It's true that Blizzard has lost a few great people but Blizzard is a company where games are made by gamers,  god forbid that they strategies to make a profit.

@fredwv To be honest, it's my fault I made Diablo III a bad memory. At least it's my fault lettin them do it.

The game was great untill I reached Inferno dificulty. Had I let it rest, I'd remid it as a very fun game (altough inferior to Diablo II).

Their decision to turn Inferno into a stupid raid progression to fuel the real money AH, tough, was terribly stupid. They tainted one of the most beloved series of all times with pure, unmitigated greed.

@FreedomPrime Well, having competition is something that's similar. Not wether it's in demand enough to stomp competition. But it's confusing how he defines it. What does he see borderlands as? Is it a fps? then there's a TON of competition. Does he see it as a coop game, still a lot of competition. Does he see it as a fps coop? Still competition but not as much. If you say a fps coop with humor as a main element, cell shaded, and a complex loot system. Then no, it has no competition. It is likely however that it will be seen by many as a fps, which is a flooded market. I do think borderlands was great, and borderlands 2 could be even better, which might make it a big seller, I hope so.

@djezhel619 This is not entirely true, Nintendo has lagged behind with its media format for some time now. It stuck with cartridges when everyone went cd, and by the time they went cd everyone was dvd. By the time they went dvd, PS3 was going blu-ray.
