When I saw they were making a Planteside 2 I was super stoked. The original was by far the best FPS game I have played. So far this one looks to be as good but with tons of improvements (customization, graphics, bases, etc). It was one of the most balanced games I have played (until BFR's were op'ed), that an NO CHEATERS, game is an MMO so no hacking like whats happening in BF3 now. I really hope they are able to pull this off.
By the way, this all took place over hundreds of bases over a dozen continents. Even with a useful network of portals (and which bases and continents you currently controlled designated which portals you could use, allowing you to get to battle faster or slower. Once you've loaded up a couple of dropships and are ready to storm a base, it could still take five minutes of flying just to get to where you're going, and that whole time you'll need to make sure you've got air support, and that the base you're attacking has vehicles attacking from the outside to keep the enemy busy, and that you've got the infrastructure to fall back and spawn at. The game was not just a large battle, it was global warfare. And it was great.
Planetside is an MMOFPS like no other. To my knowledge, it's the only game that simulates warfare, where you play as the role of a soldier on the ground. Planetside has logistics, air support, base-crashing, bombing runs, combat engineers laying minefields and listening posts, building portable turrets, spies sneaking around and disabling enemy defences, snipers (that require you to lead your target, and prevent you from simply swinging your rifle around to point and click), shock troopers, tank battalions, light scouts, heavy support.
Oh, and if you decide to grab a couple of big guns and go try and be Rambo? You'll accomplish nothing.
@IcyToasters Oh okay. That's actually pretty cool. Is it browser-based or you play it on the PC directly?
Its not browser based, its a full game played on your local machine. Battles can be huge, youre not limited to 64v64 like you are in some games, literally hundreds of players can fight over a base. There is a population cap per continent, but its pretty high. Not sure what it will be for this but I am assuming similiar if not more than it was in PS1.
@sirkibble2I'm not sure exaclty how it launches. Not sure if it launched from a regular link on the desktop or though something like Battlelog.
But I guess it's not played inside the internet browser and is a separate program anyway.
@sirkibble2 it's a free to play MMO, yup!Apparently they're trying pretty hard to keep it from being Pay-to-Win. Stuff like keeping items as available even though someone can pay to get kind of an 'experience boost'.I hope they keep the unlockable items as different, not better, than the originals, in order for it to work..
@Chrypt22 Oh okay. Still might have to check it out. It looks good.
