If you want a challenge in this game, try to choose as many of the "nerf" skills as possible. Like have no armor, no evasion, 1 energy shield and/or health, you use health instead of mana, there might be others like these, but don't remember right now. All of those skills came also with another effect.
I love this game - just need more people to play with. Haven't tried the guilds... is there a Gamespot one Erick/Kevin?
Is it just me... or do you guys film "Ask Gamespot" at a high frame-rate? Your movements are so fluid and life-like... it creeps me out! D:
I loved Diablo 3 and the fact that it is on consoles has given it more legs so to speak. I like PoE but I have to get used to the no gold thing. I have no room at all for inventory so as of now I don't pick anything up unless it is a color other then white. Right now it's another hack and slash rpg which I am thankfull for but ain't going to hate every other game that came before it even though it seems to be the popular thing to do now. I still play Champion's of Norrath.
I have to say, as much as i hate the forced ads... the new 60 fps player is just plain amazing.
Hey its Jeremy Lin
I see the sequel to Diablo 2 has finally arrived. This game is fucking excellent, if you know what you're in for.
Anyone who enjoyed Diablo 2 but was disappointed with Diablo 3 will find an excellent progression to what Diablo 2 did right. Path of Exile is a fantastic evolution of Diablo 2 mechanics.
IMHO this is the best, deepest, most engaging ARPG I've played in more than ten years.
Whoever had the six link full white socket chest piece at that EXTREMELY early level got really lucky! I've never had that drop and I've played well over 1000 hours of the game. This was, of course, over a long period of time while the game was in alpha, then closed beta, then open beta, then released.
60fps video player looks so good.
Lol, great stuff guys. Looking forward to this review! :)
I played a quite a bit of this in early beta then dropped off, looks like I'm gonna have to jump back in and check out what they've done since then :-) Looking forward to the review Kevin!
i liked this game better when it was called Torchlight
Gamespot should really leave the videos (and podcasts) to the British branch
My problem with this game is... I played the beta a bit... had a stash full of useful stuff... when game got released I decided to play from the start... you know... they changed a lot since beta and with a fresh start I can do better decisions AND have a lot of useful gear and items from early on... BUT... my stash got erased and I ended up with nothing... I'm still mad about that and that's why I'm struggling withing starting this game over again... I looked forward to playing the game with saved up gear and items... the game is actually hard... but I believe I'll give it a try because I liked it... still dislike the extremely tiny backpack, though!!!!
I've already played this game a lot, but I am still looking forward to Kevin's review of it. This game deserves whatever attention it gets. Pretty amazing that such a small team was able to craft such a big game with tons of content, an interesting world, and a complex skill system. It plays good too: I really like the sound design because when you hit something the weapons and spells sound and feel dangerous and satisfying, and that's pretty important since you hit stuff a lot in these types of games.
does it support controller?
nvm you cant use controller i cant use a mouse for this its too tiring for me damn shame game looks good i liked the diablo 3 demo
does this game give you abilities as frequent as diablo 3?
It's pretty cool to see some more coverage of this game. It deserves it.
Been lucky to been in it since Alpha - they sent me a hard copy and some other goodies! love it!
@GothikaGeist We've been shooting everything at 60fps :)
@andrewwittmaier i'd like to play this but not a big fan of mouse clicking. Have u ever played balders gate for gamecube?
@andrewwittmaier it was me actually. The funny thing is, Ive found 2 on ladder now. Sold one for like 25 + chaos and have the other still. Pretty lucky though
@d-man I think you forgot a "/s" at the end of your sentence there.
@d-man Lol. PoE is as different from Torchlight as it could be without ceasing to be an isometric ARPG. Which is exactly why I like both of them plenty. Same with D3. Been playing the shit out of all three of them, off and on, for quite a while.
@d-man The "D" in your name means DUMB.
@gbus316 ? :/ Is my accent causing some trouble?
In any case, we love the UK guys, and I would never pretend to be that funny, but not everything needs to be, or should be, hysterical. Not every form of expression will have you in stitches :)
@Shinteikun Hmm, that seems pretty strange. Did you check the different leagues? The last character and gear wipe was aaages ago, so you should still have all your gear. I've played it a fair bit, and have noticed that sometimes new players get mixed up between the different leagues - your stash is different depending on the league you choose, so you can't trade items - e.g. from Standard to Hardcore - through the stash. So sometimes, you create a character in one league, put items in your stash, and then come back later into a different league, and wonder why your stash appears empty (when it is just that your items are in a different league). So check your stashes. If you've tried everything - well, that sucks! :(
@Shinteikun There was no wipe from Open Beta to Release. I think you meant CLOSED BETA to Open Beta, for which there was indeed a wipe and was announced many times prior to the wipe. It was your fault that you didn't keep a close tab on it.
They didn't wipe characters, was to not upset players who are reserving names, and the items were wiped to not allow disadvantages to new players when OB started, and also the items stats were out of date/different, compare to when it was in Close Beta. You are also given a very large bank/vault space you know...
@Shinteikun thats interesting you mustve played in early beta, because I played the more final beta build in which stuff wasnt deleted. If you want stuff for non ladder I can give you some stuff to start again because I'm just playing ladder anyways. I have like 10 stash tabs full of stuff.
@Shinteikun What did you expect? You were playing Beta.
@Mr_Pants_tent I totally agree. Some of the skills are so well-tuned and feel so ridiculously satisfying. Cracking skulls with Glacial Hammer for example... just lovely. When you think about it, the team must've been super dedicated to do what they've done.
Ed: Actually, most of the skills!
@Mr_Pants_tent Hitting someone with a mace really has an impact.
@inso-maniac no and by it's very design a controller would be terrible for this game unless it was ported and stripped down.
@inso-maniac I would say sometimes. Many of the early quests give you a selection of skills as rewards. This selection sometimes overlaps with itself, and different skill gems have different stat requirements. So, as you continue, you might run into more repeat skill options or skills that level up into requiring stats you might not have invested in. You also might find abilities as drops. Again, more frequently in the beginning than later. Between skill points and gems, you should get plenty of options early in.
@andybauman @GothikaGeist Good!!!
I see that you are still prone to insults when someone says something that you don't like about a game.
@Kevin-V @gbus316 Yeah, that is fair enough, but it was not really a comment on the comedy of the situation, I just feel that the videos made by the British team have a bit more personality and production to them, coupled with the humour. But maybe I am just being xenophobic. Or maybe you are going along with the Woody Allen line that being funny is not anyone's first choice :)
@Slagar I've only played on one difficulty and only on english... so yeah... it sucks... XD
@nzrock @Shinteikun I started playing the game at late August... so it wasn't an early beta. They didn't announce a wipe out few days before official release... my characters and their equipped gear are fine... it was just my stash full of goodies that magically got empty...
But, it's OK now... I was upset for a day... now I'm zen about it.
@Erick @Shinteikun I started playing at late August... so it wasn't an early beta...That is nice of you... shockingly nice, actually... But it's OK... I'll just play slowly from the start. Thanks, though. You're a lighthouse in a crowd of internet trolls! You have my respect!
@Erick @Shinteikun The earlier closed betas did have a few complete character wipes along the way. I went through a couple last year, before Diablo 3 was out. The last one was months ago, though, with the transition from closed to open beta. All of my characters from open beta are just fine.
@Lash540 @Shinteikun They kept my witch character... they could also keep the stashed stuff too!!! :(
I suppose that you are one of those people who think that if they haven't seen someone else online for a while, they are dead. That's a mark of being shallow. ;)
@Gelugon_baat @enartloc gelugon i thought you died???
It's just a petty comparison - take it at face value and don't be pissed by it.
@Shinteikun @Erick haha no worries, just sucks to lose stuff and I have a bunch of stuff I'm not going to use so yeah if you end up struggling just PM. GLHF
@min64 no... I've played only on one difficulty with one character... I guess it was some bug or something... but since I don't care for it anymore, I'm ok with it all... thanks for taking your time trying to figure out the problem, I appreciate it
Your stash shouldn't be gone... was this a hardcore character? Are you attempting to access this stash with a character in Nemesis or Domination league? if so old stashes are in Standard and Hardcore leagues. I've been playing for a long time, and the only time they deleted players stash and levels was when the game went from closed to open beta in January.
