BTW, it's really important to figure out your skills if you want to play well. 8 schools are all different, for example, Tangmen is famous of sneak attack and critical stikes, Shaolin is famous for close combat, Emei protects herself(and her team) well, etc. But you can win PVP no matter what school you are in, if you know how to deal with other schools' skills(There'll be a LOT to talk about if I go into details). Also, flying skills(qinggong) plays an important part in PVP, it's not just a matter of escaping, but getting the chance to win.
This game has been running beta versions in China for several months and I've been playing it for already half a year. So I would say, if you judge it by playing or even watching for several minutes, you'll not see its fun. Doing tasks is not an important part of this game; after you finish the guidance(start the first chapter of story, join your school), you can almost forget "daily task"s(you'll get a little reward if you do tasks, though).
AoW focuses more on communications between players and PVP.Those who like to sell weapons, potions, etc. can also have their fun(most of these products are made by players, so if you are smart enough, you may earn quite a mount of money!). Several important activities are, spying, kidnapping, stealing skill books, school war...thus love and hatred are emerged and you'll have more communication with other players. This is the core of AoW, not what is shown in this video!
LOL This video is not a real PVP fight! And those who judged the game just by watching this without playing actual game are just pathetic...
If you want to see REAL PVP fight between two experienced/advanced players just watch this! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0wP-UBQFT8
Note: The guy is a Head Master of Wudang Sect and the girl is a Head Mistress of Emei Sect!
Wow all these negative comments without actually plaing the game? Well i have played it in beta - i have also played every other top title mmo from everquest one to guild wars 2 and this game is how a mmorg is supposed to be. It most definately not a typical asian grind fest or a boring quest fest - im afraid you need intelligence and patience to study different teqniques of kung fu in an open pvp world with consequences - so if you class your self as moderately intelligent and are fed up with the usual crap and long for a proper rpg experience as in swg but set in an historically authentic setting i suggest play this. There is so much more real content to this sandbox game than in any theme park mmo becuase its your own experiences and decisions that make the story. Now you may have your own opinions about the game, but you would be wrong - Im right ! end of.
Another asian martial arts mmo like thousands of others, people sick with these clone games, make otgher design and game can be more succesful, EPIC FAIL!
The article headline had me very excited until the "MMO" part. We need more true kung fu games. Not just fighters, RPGs.
Lack of voice acting, unconvincing animations, lame ultra worn out concept...
Star Wars The Old Republic, while still being far from a perfect game, started a new era in MMORPG evolution, proving revolutionary possibilities. Future games of the genre either accomplish at least that much, or perish. It's as simple as that.
Honestly this is going to fail. The graphic is poor, the combat is boring, the gameplay does not have any difference compare to other MMO. Why they are expecting players will join this game without anything special?
Hm...battle thus far seems really dated and quite frankly boring, though I also know that the guy was just starting out. The enemies seen to do a lot of standing around though in battle. I want to like this game though, so I'll keep my eyes on it and hope it improves....
You know that you know, umm. You know umm, yeah you know? You know! Haha you know! Yeah you know, but obviously you know, right?
This pretty much sums up the video.
When I think of a level-less MMORPG, I think of a game that doesn't require progression to jump in the thick of things... but clearly, moving a level system from the main character to skills means there's still a progression system in place.
Hm, I dunno about the gameplay, but the music and atmosphere is pretty beautiful. I like Chinese landscapes and architecture.
sounds ok but if i read "pay to win " in a single coment here im off
katana and visa are two words not missing well imo
@malcombexs123 I totally agree with you! My younger brother who's a 17 years old really got confused and annoyed when he found that this game is very very detailed and required intelligence to play. I even offered him a personal How to Play Age of Wushu classes....He did accept that, and made a lot of notes like a nerd. LOL. This game is really not for a dumb a*s. Even just trying to make a dish from cooking skill could be confusing. He was like, "how can I make tofu?", "which plant should i grow to make tofu?", "which insecticide should I use when grass shopper's eating my soy?" etc. XD And no need to mention about each skill moves of each skill sets in each situations, which it's very very detailed, that we HAVE TO completely understand them to make it work best in different situations with different opponents, skills or internal strengths. There're also meridian system, cultivation bonuses environment system, etc....LOL
People need to be smart, patience and open-minded to be able to play this game really.
@LikeReD then go back to your crappy westerns mmorpg
@Tetris_block69 the graphics arent even right. The game seems boreing, fights look dull
@paladinjedi I play pretty much every MMO and if you believe that then you really dont know MMOs.
SWTOR was a terrible game. Yes I maxed a character in SWTOR and quit because of the terrible glitchy combat mainly but the game was just bad overall. Really, it was a terrible WoW clone and the voice acting and dark/light side meant nothing so they could have left the voice acting out. I intentionally went thru the story answering every question wrong after a while and it would just guide you back to the path you wanted to take on rails. I cant believe Bioware actually released SWTOR with a straight face after spending $200 million in development. The funniest part about it was how they spent most of the budget of the voice acting, but then had 75-percent of the voice acting in alien gibberish galactic basic so you spaced barred thru it most of the time anyway. After 30-40 levels listening to npcs blather in the alien language it made me want to bang me face on the desk. And the iphone app space combat was icing on the cake. Seriously, if you think SWTOR was a good game your credibility is suspect to say the least.Games dont have to have awesome graphics or voice acting to be good. Yes it helps but most serious MMO players nowadays long for the days of DAoC and Shadowbane. None of the new high end games out can compare. Anyone that played those games know neither WoW nor GW2 or SWTOR nor Age of Conan nor Darkfall nor Vanguard or any other game has successfully duplicated what those games did. Actual real RvR policed by the players with player looting, PKing and keep seiges.
As far as MMOs I've played Age of WuShu has come the closest to that style of play of any game I've played since those days. So ya, it doesnt have the best graphics or voice acting but thats tertiary to gameplay. So, like I said if you are in the eyecandy/grinding is too much work/he killed me NERF!11! generation of MMO players this game isnt for you.
If you like open world pvp, rvr, keep sieges on a real pvp server you might enjoy this game horrible translations aside.
@paladinjedi ToR changed nothing, they added voice dubbing but other than that it's a terrible re-skin of wow (being generous). Bioware had an awesome opportunity to revolutionize MMO's by adding real time space combat, open world and open space exploration, real time action combat and such. Instead they played it safe with tech and made a feature of something you'd expect in any modern game. To add insult to injury, the implementation of voice acting in ToR is terrible, it feels detached from the rest of the experience in my opinion.
SW TOR had the money and the cast to back it up from EA Bioware. This is a free to play game, you do the math.
Yes SW TOR set the pole a lil higher, but there was nothig revolutionary about it, they only added voice over and complex mechanic of their own similar to other MMO. I don't think SW TOR should be a role model for anything other than a cash in, btw SW TOR is going free to play this month, because big surprice they need to rise their server population because people just quit. As for the future , there won't be anything new, mmo reached its limits some time ago and there just isn't anything new they can bring on the table, except virtual reality so saying the industry should man up to your standart and let everything else die is pretty much dooming an entire branch, not to mention that the East will never stop producing cheap mmo titles just because the West doesn't like them.
About the animations, i agree they are lumpy but as the person said this is first beta test ...
And about the concept I think the matrix online was even lamer than this, most concepts fit for am mmo are worn out of use these days like zombies, undead, dragons, rebels. Snow white is a concept older than anything, yet it got a movie title some time ago with new stars and it was very poor. The industry rellys on old content that is know to everyone and sure to be a proffit, because if it isn't the leader of the project gets the hot potato from the executive board.
@ED0511 graphics arent bad, the gameplay is a lot different than other mmos, its free 2 play. Its been out for over a year in China and hasnt failed yet. what are you whining about again?
@SOKOLEK realistic and video games are an oxymoron. Also, the game is based of classic Chinese marital arts films like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon with people flying and running on water etc. so its not going to be anymore 'realistic' than say a fantasy elves and orcs game is realistic. Its realistic as far as all the moves are actual real martial arts moves. It also has other features like alignments, stamina and nutrition. You actually have to rest, eat, work etc in the game.
@GolfBK @malcombexs123 I totally going through what your brother went through. Can say though, as complicated as they had made it, when as a fighter you can master your own skills like your own ten fingers, it's not overnight. I had to get myself a good pk buddy and train myself, lose to him a million times, before finally being able to put up a decent fight with him. Good fighters in this game don't spam skills/qinggong/potions. They use their self-taught reflexes and knowledge of their skills+skills of other schools they accumulate from combat with other players to build their competence.
@pozium fought in a 60 v 60 guild v guild fight yesterday but couldnt kill the school leader. was more fun than gw2 W v W
Voice acting and cinematics-driven story are actually the crucial aspect in any modern game that emphasizes STORY OVER COMBAT, which wants to be more than a gory hack'n slash feast, where you do have some feelings and emotional expression, some romances, coupled with touchy situations that add flavor and epicness to the story: games like, for example - Mass Effect.
SWTOR has it overall very good, although it could have been better, yes. But you really live through your story in SWTOR, it gets you involved in the game, it's not just another anime rushy click for the next mute placid generic npc to get your 1000-th stiff, grindingy quest going for another poor hundrend-and-something-th level... (which even so may be - probably - less boring than some people's real lives..........)
I was into 9Dragons if you remember that, the game had potential but it was a grind and people just gave up on it. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either, it was just interesting to play. So this one reminds me of it , lets see if it's as interesting as 9D
@Kunakai Exactly. After seven years and $200million people were expecting SWG 2.0 they got a lolWoWinspace.
@oflow @ED0511Graphics isn't really up to par to today's standard, and the gameplay from watching the video looks like a step backwards. I'm not sure about the other features, so can't really judge them, but considering that most people will spend a lot of time in the combat more than anything, this game doesn't leave a great first impression.
Also, being successful in China doesn't mean a thing here in America, just ask the Korean MMO's that are struggling to find an audience here compared to South Korea...
All this being said, I still want to like this game. Any game that tries to do something different other than the typical fantasy genre will get my attention at the very least. Good luck to this game, though I see a difficult struggle here in the West...
@dom28 Hey now, let's not jump ship with these American comments. You utterly lack any real contribution to all of this.
@The_Last_Paladi @oflow @ED0511 Well your right about one thing, a game being successful in any other country doesn't mean shit in America, seeing as the majority population of the US is dumbed down idiots and only play shooters and other crap titles over there. Fuck it's no wonder the US never gets any good games anymore period, they don't deserve it until they get out of that dumbed down state their in.
@The_Last_Paladi I dont know if it will struggle as much as you think. There are multiple guilds in the beta with over 100+ ppl online . It wont be another WoW but I'd wager it does better than say Secret World.
@The_Last_Paladi its a matter of opinion really. I think the graphics look ok. They arent the best but they arent bad either. I run the game on high and the graphics look good to me.
Watching vids and actually playing the game are different. Anyway, like I said most of the people playing the beta really enjoy the game which was a surprise to me. In most mmo betas you have a ton of ppl trolling chat talking about how much the game sucks but in AoW you actually see ppl saying they love the game so you have to take that for what its worth.
Also, the combat is actually more complex that what it looks like in the video. Alot of the combat has to do with timing blocks to charge rage to use abilities. Believe me its a lot more fun than it looks IMHO. In this vid he didnt fight any other real players.
Like I said if you liked DAoC you will love this game.
@s_h_a_d_o hahaha its a typo grow up.
