The current gen seem to have a better color contrast..

I'm concerned about the next gen quality. Barely looks different. Maybe they should have waited for 4k resolution.

i'll grab it for PC, i liked the idea of 3 but i found it very difficult to stay interested and it just took to long to get going.

AC4 is an amazing game on any system! They've outdone themselves on this particular Assassins Creed! I've got it on current gen but will be getting it for next gen also.

neither, just wait for PC for ultimate experience.

Did they get the screens the wrong way around? PS4 looks washed the hell out.

Neither console seems to be any kind of considerable improvement (sometimes barely noticeable) from the previous generation. I'll pass for a few years until something half interesting comes out or the PS4 starts getting some RPGs. Remember those things?

its a port and a launch game...and don't act like PC controller support is up to par.  I have BF4 on PC and it has been nothing but a pain in the ass trying to play with an xbox controller

Yeah the differences are pretty much AA, lighting and water effects and shadows are a bit better. But really those differences are very insignificant. I am already 50% through the game on PS3 I am not sure I'll be getting 10$ version to start all over again. Now if i could just continue from where I finished on PS3 thats another story. Starting all over though, don't think so.

What i really want to play next gen is BF4. PC is full of brats and aimbotters.

Well to be fair ACIV is probably PORTED to PS4... meaning most game assets (and of course the engine) are the same, so the best they can do is up the resolution of textures a bit...

Really? THAT is what 8+ years worth of hardware advancement have done? Man, it used to be that only 1 year would produce dramatically different results...

There are alot of jagging textures for ac4 on current gen consoles.Thing is,as you know they get more noticeable when you move or travel fast.

That's where next gen should come into play.Having aa and better textures and resolution.

But still looks decent on current gen and it's amazing what they've managed to do with this old tech and far they went compared to 2005-2008.

After that they kinda slowed down imo, improving a few things but taking others out for the sake of memory abd processing power.

So far, I think the true "next gen" will start with MLB 14 the show.  They released a pre-build teaser this week.  Now that is looking crazy!

AC5 will look actually next gen when it comes out next year. At the moment, if you have a PC capable of maxing out AC4, just wait for the release of the superior version all around.

I think they switched PS3/PS4 wrongly at some point. Unless the PS4 version is cearly not as good looking, lol.

What is this; the seventh addition the series? Who buys all these damn things!?

Visuals are just a bit better, better draw distance, fps, resolution, clearly just a rushed port to PS4. It was designed for the current gen, whereas Killzone Shadowfall is designed for next gen, its early doors people.

I played AC4 at a gaming expo and I got the current gen version for my girlfriend and believe me, seeing it up close is insane. The PS4 version looks much better than the PS3 one. Can't see much difference in this video but I was blown away when I saw it for myself.

im alwais one gen late

Living in a poor country dosen´t make it easy but i must say i don´t really mind it

i dont like playing current games cause there is way to mush news on the net..takes something away from the experience imo

Very little difference...but 3 seems a bit better (sharper/color) than 4 in this case.  I'll wait a year or so to see how it goes.

You guys actually have next-gen consoles? Why am I thinking that major gaming sites have yet to get them?

 well couple of points:

1.they made game for both the consoles current & next gen .if they made game a very superior quality the the current gen gamers willl be pissed off.

2.they made a game for both gens using simillar engine.you will see great games when they made specially for next gen for eg.the divison ,killzone, forza, second son etc.

First of all. I totally agree with some of my fellow commentators here. DO NOT base your judgement of next gen consoles based on games that are to be released across all "available" platforms. This is one of the main reasons why I won't be getting my next gen console until 2014. By then, we will exactly have a fair idea as to how the games look, feel, and play. Also, by then, all developers will stop developing games for current gen and will solely focus on next gen titles. Only then we will know about the true power of next gen systems. As far as AC4 goes, I will be playing it on PC because I get the extra bells and whistles in terms of resolution, fps, and graphical options. However, the PS4 is as good as PC if you ask me.

@colbster True, I mean the difference between games of PS2 and Ps3 were immediately noticeable, not happening this time though.

@DeanoFantasy This argument actually makes sense. I didn't see much of a difference either. Killzone, infamous will really bring out the beauty of next gen...not these ports.

@Mac8457 I'm pretty sure that they reversed the PS3/PS4 tags at some point. Unless the PS4 version doesn't look as good as the PS3 version, lol.

snaketus

@Mac8457 I'm pretty sure this is due something in video capture process. Especially with colors. And did you know when using anti-aliasing techniques you will get less aliasing, but down side is the blurring effect. This has been the thing in the PC gaming for ages now, do you prefer sharper image and allow more aliasing or vice versa.

snaketus
snaketus

@maybock3000 Well. it's current gen game. You think they made the game twice? No.

@belin43 You're looking at current gen Kevin. Next gen Kevin will look thinner with slightly better resolution.

@GregoryBastards@colbster"Ps3 at launch had an immediately noticeable difference".....are you seriously kidding me? Go back and take a hard look at the launch titles of the ps3, they looked about as better in comparison to how ps4 launch titles look over ps3 games.

Maddon NFL 07 looked Barely better than the ps2 counterpart

Genji: days of blade literally looked like some ps2 port game

Call of duty 3 looked like it could have easily run on ps2

Ridge Racer 7 looked more or less the same as gran turismo 4

It hardly is "immediately noticeable" as you say it is, unless a few more polygons and a bit more lighting can wow you on a launch title lol

theKSMM
theKSMM

@GregoryBastards @colbster At the last transition in 2005-6, we went from standard definition to high definition.  Of course the pictures looked better with four times as many pixels.

Also, you lose a lot of detail in streaming video.  These comparisons might mean more if they were of still screenshots.

My guess is that the draw distance and texture resolution will be the biggest differences.  But as they said, these games are functionally the same.

Vambran

@GregoryBastards @colbster

Most of the launch games for either console are just ports. Give them another year to work on actually next gen games.

phlail_uk
phlail_uk

@VenkmanPHD @Vambran True. I don't think games straddling both generations will be the best showcase of what next gen can do. Even looking at the PS3 launch exclusives, they look terrible in comparison to games out now for the PS3. I takes time for developers to learn how to get the most out of a console.

VenkmanPHD
VenkmanPHD

@Vambran All these "cross-gen" games are indeed ports. Wait for a game developed solely on the PS4 and you'll see what the point is.
