I played it once on easy then on hard. And I was dissaponted that the differenc with hard was that all the items were taken out, and more enemies not harder.
I cant believe how long its taken me to get this, it is such an addictive game which is getting very rare now
@botroo3 lolz... get over it man...... it was just a comment...... don't get your panties in a twist.... if it makes u feel any better i humbly apologize....
@Nexus_Gage i just don't understand why do little kids these days feel so butthurted when they hear an opinion they don't like...maybe because mommy refused to get you more than 1 console or something?
@FoxeoGames Still i guess to each his own. personally i'm beyond the age of mario n donkey kong. I like more immersive, mature games like MGS 4 or Uncharted. Being a huge fan of cinema there's nothing better for me than to experience a cinematic game first hand as the protagonist.
@Nexus_Gage I disagree you with completely. While the Wii is "weak" graphically compared to the PS3 and Xbox 360, the same could be said of both systems when compared to a powerful, dual- or quadruple GFX card PC system. Is your standard of graphics comparatively, or relatively to the system? If it's comparative, then all consoles fail to match the power of a 'supped up PC. At any rate, there is a solid and worthy library of good, quality games on the Wii. Enough so that it is well worth the price of the system. Sure, not as many as the PS3 or Xbox 360, but the vast majority of all of the great titles the Wii offers are exclusives that you can't play on any other system. I recommend any serious gamer with enough cash buy either a PS3 or Xbox 360, and then a Wii. And of course, you wouldn't be truly complete without at least a fairly decent gaming rig PC as well.
@bootroo3 oooh!!! hit a soft spot did i? chill out mate......... i'm a pretty old gamer myself..... started with a sega mega drive 2.... yeah sure its nostalgic... but look to the future..... the wii's tech is redundant and u know it.....
@Nexus_Gage being a prejudice douche bag is not how you should talk to people, first let me tell you, i am a 360 and a ps3 owner i don't own a WII mainly because their main target with the Wii was family gaming and sadly your "elite consoles" (ROFL) are following Nintendo's foot steps with the Move and Kinect BS,and you defiantly know nothing about how great the Snes era was and know nothing about how these nostalgic games (Zelda,Metriod,Donkey kong..etc) make us relatively old gamers(27 year old) feel. just because you are a Sony fanboy (yea i smell your kind) you don't have to insult people to defend your precious "elite console".
@botroo3: Ur probably still a bed wetter if u think tht the wii even compares to the ps3 or the x360..... those are elite consoles while the wii is a gaming system for kids and ppl too lazy or dyslexic to play real sports... i mean seriously wii sports?!?!? get a life!!!
seriously if Nintendo released the WII with a better hardware ,Sony and Microsoft would have left the gaming industry.
One thing I don't understand about this game is how it seems to look worse than the original Metroid Prime for the Gamecube, a game that is nearly 10 years old now?
i kind of like the concept of a metroid game that's story based, but they should have simultaneously released a more classic metroid game
This game is much better with a PS controller, after playing it on wii i stopped after a few hours, cause this game just needs classic controls. I played it on dolphin in hd, using a PS controller - everything runs pretty good and the game is much more fun to play as on wii. Would be great to see a second metroid game from team ninja - but in HD and with classic controls for a new Nintendo system. could be added with this one as it plays on dolphin. Guess Other M would be great hit with the right controls. I ask myself if this was the idea of team ninja or nintendo. guess nintendo wanted just some motion controls and Tm just put some moves on, but i really wonder classic controls are not possible as a second option. Guess most who bought this game would be prefer classic controls. Switching the wii remote is maybe an interresting idea but if you need to switch it 5 or 10 or more times in a fight you just start asking youtself why they used such bad control scheme. I would say the controls are the worst i have ever seen in all games i used to play as its a great game experience its really sad.
Looks great, the only reason I haven't bought it, is cause the control scheme completely puts me off. Using it as NES controller and move around in 3D using the D-pad. I can just imagine how ghey it must be :/ They should have went with the nunchuck for 3D movement, like Zelda: Twilight Princess.
The story isnt what people expected but you get used to it real quick and it really grows on you, the gameplay is freakin amazing ill say that. I dont get the deal with people thinking Samus is ruined, remember this is AFTER super Metroid but BEFORE everything else. Her reaction to ridley is understandable since super Metroids when she aknowledges Ridley for killing her parents which would explain her reaction.
CONTINUED FROM BELOW: 2: A post-Fusion title, also in the Prime style of gaming. This one would tell us how our heroine is doing now that she disobeyed a direct order from the Federation on a scale she had not done before. As it is closing she is speaking of the consequences of her actions, and I'd like to see her dealing with being on the run from the Federation(No killing of Federation officers though.I don't want a human vs human game.Too much like almost every other FPS game.),as well as perhaps any other new alien enemy they can think up.Space is after all, infinite.
My quibbles with this game are simple. The voice of Samus and her personality were not quite how I imagine her to be,and the whole air around the story was WAY to over dramatized. But I expected as much from this developer,so I got over it,and the gameplay, controls, and cutscenes were fantastic.People complain about lack of movement in FPS mode, but you weren't defenseless.By pointing the Remote away from the screen quickly you could still do the quick dodge move.It was not the best Metroid I ever played because of the air of it,but the game itself was great.I give it about an 8.5 or a 9. As to the next Metroid game,I want one of two things: 1.Pre-Metroid Prime era FPS style game.I want exactly the controls of the Prime series, with their isolated feel and structure, and intense attention to detail. There were entire areas in the game that served little or no real purpose, but were put there because they added landscape and detail. The reason I want pre Prime is that Other M didn't really do what I hoped in terms of the story. They said it would explain Samus' origins, but it didn't.I want to see some of her experiences with live Chozo, who aren't crazy and trapped in an alternate dimension.
@Murgurth as I said, since the controls are smooth you get used to it fast and you dont get bothered, the idea of using the directonal pad was a little off but when you try it yourself you find out that the controls are smooth regardless
@Star_Gem the same way their getting paid to give high scores to almost every shooter? I dont think so. This game is their opinion, yes theres problems but the main key is that it DOESNT bother your gameplay or story of it. Samus's voice was only unexpected because of her nature of the other metroid games, its not saying its bad
@Murgurth That may be true but suprisingly the controls are VERY smooth and you feel like you ARE moving in 3D regardless of the directional pad
I think they could have made the game a good actual 3D game. 2D isn't bad anything but it's kinda disorienting to move and turn around in 3D in the game but you're just pressing left and right in actuality
why does everybody always complain about scores? think if there wasn't a score at all. now you can make your decision
GameSpot reviewers are either paid to give high scores, or they're friggin fanboys who purposely inflate scores on their favorite titles, and this review proves it. After going on and on about "graphical issues", "Samus poor voice acting", "unfriendly controls" and pretty much the gazillion flaws he pointed out, the last thing I'd expect was a 8.5 score. It may deserve the score, but the review text (and video) fits about a 6, and I'm pretty sure that's what they'd give it if it was called "Magnolia: Other M" instead.
@Farraridude9 Seriously?DS graphics?I don't care if you've played every game on Earth, that doesn't qualify you to be totally insulting and downright wrong.(Well I guess anyone can be wrong whenever they want, but you get my drift.)The DS cannot make the graphics this game has.Other M's visuals are not quite up to par with the best of Wii graphics, which(wait for it HD fanboys...) can be excellent in the right hands. As someone who played the Prime series you can appreciate that.I played the entire thing, beat it,and in the end,it is a good game.It doesn't measure up to the Prime series, but the combat was a blast, and the rendered cutscenes are gorgeous. The voice acting overplayed the drama WAY too much, but I expected as much from Team Ninja, given the heavily anime inspired way in which they do things. I didn't understand nor entirely agree with the unauthorization of weapons in the game, but it provided the basic Metroid function of gaining abilities as you progress. In short the graphics are good, the combat is fun,and the rating of "8.5 Great" is exactly what the game deserves. Now next time I'd like a return to the old formula,or the Prime formula, even though Prime itself is concluded, the formula is great. Perhaps when Retro is done with resurrecting The Donkey Kong Country series,Nintendo could hand Metroid back to them...
I love Metroid and Samus but who the hell cast her as the voice actor? Monotone...no passion...flat... Might as well have been McShea voicing her. No offense Tom. What wasted opportunity to finally connect Samus with the fans. Sigh...
the DS produces poorer gfx than a PS1, even nokia cellphones does better, the DS is nothing more than a super GBA with minimal 3d capabilities, while a wii is 1.5x more powerfull than a ps2 and has gfx comparable to shader 3 pc games, while ps2 can only compare to shader 2 model. this is a nintendo title and nintendo knows how to take the most of its own console, so u cant compare "sub-ps1" gfx wich has no shaders at all to post-ps2 ones? besides, wii may have low res gfx but it has lots of new tech available... like realistic phisics, and realistic elements like fire, smoke and water, besides cool lighting effects. btw.... games not only about gfx, and this game can be good enough to prove it
@ Ferraridude9 I guess I just don't think it looks that bad because I haven't been able to play a game on anything other than the Wii for over two years. Compared to some Wii games that are coming out, it seems to have pretty good graphics, but I do realize that that's not saying very much considering the fact that the Wii has such lower capacity for good graphics compared to its two opponents.
I beat it and can only conclude that there wasn't enough gameplay to justify the price. You unlock your skills so quickly and by the time you earn the super bombs, you've beaten the game. Maybe the developer thought they could fill the gaps with annoying and long stupid cut scenes. The cut scenes were so horrible I was ashamed and embarassed when others around me were watching. The ending was so terrible and annoying that I wish I could forget it. Maybe someday Nintendo will bring this franchise back. The next game better be another Prime.
@ghostjr Well, to me it does appear that way, and as someone who has purchased the last handful of Metroid games (including the entire Prime series) I feel qualified enough to do so. Compared to, dare I say, the Xbox360, the Wii is very limited in its graphics. While HD compliant systems have increased their limitations from their preceding system, the Wii remains nearly the same as the GameCube (which don't get me wrong, was good in its day). This game capitolizes those similarities in the graphical quality. This is why I feel the game looks like it has DS graphics - because it essentially does. It's a shame people simply read comments and thumb down them just because they do not agree with another person's qualified opinion. I'm a huge fan of the series. I'm just not a fan of this game.
