This game is post Peacewalker not leading up to Peacewalker. don't talk about games you don't know about. it is incompetence like this that lead up bad and non-critical reviews

Who cares if is Hayter or not, MGS V its an effort for just make money, the series over with peace walker what is, in my opinion, a game out of place, just a patch in an already finished story.

As a MGS fan I can say "No mr. Kijima, not this time. You killed a great saga, shame on you"

So much for a video with no explosions, I saw plenty on this one...what a dumb comment to make then have it in the video after all.

I couldn't even watch this whole thing. So painful to hear these idiots talk about MGS and get it all wrong. "There's big shell…that's not mantis…that's not ocelot it's zadornov" I had to turn it off.

We all know the whole cloning thing can be used at any time and there just be another snake.

Liquid snake was all big bosses bad genes, Solidus snake was all big bosses good genes, And "Snake" or Solid snake was just a normal clone.

Now they all had accelerated growth rates which is why he aged super fast. So 4th snake normal growth rate been growing up this whole time living in the shadows of the story a gas matter form(since that's the one they haven't used) or "Phantom snake".

& don't even get me started on " recruitment" . I think most people are jobless & hence this stupid concept of making factions & winning ghettos has become a mandatory thing. Started with GTA 4 now it seems that it has become a standard thing & gamespot.com loves it. The only game that get high rating from you are the once where player can run freely for the entire day(literally). Red dead redemption, Assassin creed 3, & now metal gear.

Gamespot didn't like GOW Judgement day, cuz there was no free running.

Well, I for one hate it. DOn't have this much time. Got a life to live.

As for David's voice, i'm still skeptical if he's really been removed. Might be a surprise at the launch.

I can't quite believe they are still making this shit. I mean I love Metal Gear Solid and always will. That feeling I used to have of "OMG Snake is such a fucking bad ass!", the play feels great, the story is normally decent, give or take a few points in each game. But when I saw Snake with grey hair and breathing from some sort of oxygen tank in the trailer a while back must be a year or two back now I just felt my heart breaking for allowing me to see such a pathetic sight. But they just keep going, making him more and more inhuman. I mean don't these producers learn that if you milk the franchise to the gripping edge it is going to die? Who the fuck wants to control an old guy who's heart stopped at some point? I want the guy who killed the Metal Gear with a socom and a fucking hand grenade from the first one. I want a Snake who can run out of bullets and punch a metal gear to death with his bare hands. This guy looks like he would struggle to open a packet of crisps! His carer would probably have to help him. Fucking losers don't know when to quit.

A lot of commenters are complaining and angry about the authors of the video not being accurate and not playing all the games. The authors made it very clear and even disclosed that they didn't play every MSG game and they are just speculating, just like you or I or any regular gamer would by breaking down the video into its core elements. If you know more about the backstory by all means enlighten us but no need to get pissy about it just bcs you wernt spoon fed facts and you know better. No where did they claim what they were saying is true, actually they made it clear they weren't sure thus inviting discussion. Figuring it out is part of the fun, thats probably how the trailer was designed.  If you can make a better video claiming all the facts by all means do it and post it here.

Okay no offense, Shaun, but you need to really play through Peace Walker before confounding your audience even further.  You are all over the place in your "Breakdown" regarding the timeline and characters.  I think you're looking too much into things.  Sure, Snake might be reliving some moments from his life, and I agree with the PTSD part.  The doctor who greets Snake at the end of his coma appears to be Dr. Madnar from the early Metal Gear games, but the man on the horse is clearly Ocelot, and the "Big Shell" you're seeing destroyed is the Mother Base from Peace Walker, suggesting this game is long after the events of Peace Walker (which occur just before Les Enfants Terribles, suggesting why he was left in a coma for so long). I guess it takes true Metal Gear fans to do your job for you.

Yeah, the red hand, the rock in his head that looks like a horn, the cigar... seems pretty clearly inspired by Hellboy. No idea why he'd make Snake look like Hellboy, but ok. Also, Kojima has said that the first person view in the hospital bed is supposed to be him watching, and the line "what about this guy?" is referring to himself as if to say he's alive, he's still here. If that's the case, then is that scene created just for the trailer, or is that in the game?

The whale is a reference the Russian Helicopter KA-60 Kasatka (killer whale). Solid Snake makes reference to it in MGS2 during the tanker incident, the mercenaries used these choppers to board the USS Discovery on the Hudson River.

I honestly think the guy on the horse is Ocelot. I read his lips and it kinda says "I'm Ocelot" I might be wrong

There were a lot of mistakes in that breakdown. Like, a LOT. Plus, you guys barely said anything as the trailer was playing!

1:05 " I didn't play a whole lot of that game"

So what the hell are you doing here, inspecting a game trailer whose predecessor you know so little about?

Such an unprofessional behaviour, didn't expect this from GameSpot staff.

MG2 did NOT happen before PW. What the hell were you guys thinking?! You don't even know which game comes before which?! The MGS Wiki has a timeline for christ's sake, you didn't even bother to check??

Also,

2:25 "There goes the Big Shell"

I do hope that was a joke. Please say it's a joke.

probably ground zeroes is a short prologue of the game just like the tanker incident in MGS2

Why do they always get noobs that know next to nothing about the games to dissect trailers ? How is that supposed to help people figure out anything ?

@Dannystaples14 THE STORY NORMALY DECENT, ARE YOU KIDDING, THE METAL GEAR SOLID SAGA HAS THE BEST STORY ON VIDEO GAMES EVER, ITS HAS THE BEST DIALOGUE, AS GRIPPING AS A MOVIE. SO I WILL SAY THE STORY IS MIND BLOWING

Billtholomew
Billtholomew

@Dannystaples14 It's simple. The series is about the warrior spirit. The Boss, Big Boss, and Solid Snake are all soldiers. It's all they know, it's all they believe in. In the case of Solid Snake, it is literally what he was born to do. That theme has been rather pervasive in the Metal Gear Solid games. Even when these people are dead or dying, they keep fighting because that's what they live to do (recall that The Boss found joy on the battlefield, hence her other name The Joy). They keep fighting even while sick and dying because that is all they know in life.
Another important aspect of the series is that Snake (both Naked Snake and Solid Snake), while being a born soldier, is human. He has human limitations. He's not comically buff soldier like in so many games (such as Gears of War). He isn't a super-hero, and he isn't even a super-soldier. He's just a fragile human who's really good at what he does, and his weakness as a human is what makes him a legendary hero. He could very easily die on his mission, but he still goes in to stop Metal Gear because he's a soldier and because it's what needs to be done. Nothing will stop him from doing what he has to do as a soldier to save the world. Not a missing eye, not a stopped heart, not broken bones, not even advanced cellular degeneration as a result of clone suicide genes.

That's what makes Snake a hero. Not his ability to punch tanks, but his ability to keep fighting when he should be dead.

@Jarek_Cyphus acutally, Peace Walker occurred in 1974, 10 years after Snake Eater, and 2 years after the Les Enfants Terribles Project.  Les Enfants Terribles occurred in 1972.  Big Boss was in a short coma allowing Zero to begin the project, not 9 years as suggested at the end of the trailer.  So by the events of Peace Walker, the sons of big boss were already close to 2 years old.

@iBuSHiDo I think that is just Kojima trying to throw off speculation because a third person would fit perfectly with this V character mentioned at the end.

@drumma1 You say there are a lot of mistakes, yet you didn't point one out? Or are you just trying to sound more cultured on the topic that you actually are?

xobx1

@TohouAsura I said it before, and I'll say it again - these guys, and also the two tools over at IGN that did a breakdown video are THE WRONG people to be doing this. None of them know the first thing about Metal Gear, and they shouldn't be commenting on a new MGS video.

MGS is complicated, and unless you've played all the games or at least done your homework on the wiki page, you have no business analyzing a trailer. Kojima jams all his trailers with little hints at the direction the game is taking, but you won't get it unless you are a fan or do some serious research.

@Ezequiel_12 Whoa. I'd forgotten all about this.

I liked the first game and the second, after that I just kind of felt it was becoming more and more like all they wanted was to put a cyborg skeleton inside Snake and turn him into a perpetual cash cow with no soul.

And then the introduction of more and more convoluted bullshit and weird characters, and then I saw what looked like a corpse crawling through a hospital ward with one arm and I knew it wouldn't be long.

And a guy in a chopper that looks like he was glued together with PVA glue that hadn't dried yet, after a shotgun shell to the face. That is exactly what I felt the franchise was becoming. I honestly feel sick when I see what it has become. Considering what perfection the first one was I can't believe is has limped on this long without someone putting it out of its misery with a bullet to the head.

Also all caps doesn't make you sound any angrier, it just makes it harder to read.

@splinter10 @Dannystaples14 I don't really care to be honest. Snake is Snake to me, the point is I don't want this version or part of Snake. I don't want this bag of shit game where whichever Snake is on a fucking ventilator, having someone clean him up because he crapped the bed, incontinent Snake. He is one step away from walking with a fucking zimmer frame. Why is this guy in a video game? He should be in a nursing home, fondling the young nurses. Having his dinner/tea at four in the afternoon and getting tucked in at nine every night. Watching Strictly Come Dancing. Or in the morgue, that is always a better option than exposing us to this trash over and over. God help us if we have to see him jump up and squeeze into a ventilation shaft in game, if it is accurate it will be fifteen minutes of him hopping around and then having a lean against the wall for a breather and have a blast on his asthma spray. One of the bad guys would probably come over and give him a hand wondering where this old timer had sprung from in the middle of a top secret research facility. The paramedics come and take him away to change his nappy.

@Dannystaples14 @splinter10 I think the nursing home and fondling nurses will be in the DLC. But I'm with you on the "Old Snake" angle of MGS4. While it's the greatest game I've ever played, I think they went into it as an ending to the franchise, and then changed their minds, and now they're stuck with prequels if they want to use Snake. It bums me out too because I never got into Snake Eater or the "Big Boss" original Snake. I'm more invested in the MGS Snake and they've effectively killed him off barring some miracle cure for his rapid aging, which would be a bit hokey. But hey, they did do Liquid Ocelot so who knows?

Dannystaples14
Dannystaples14

@Slmii92 I know there are multiple characters, what I'm saying is there is no fun in playing a broken shell that is the shadow of someone who USED to be great. If they had just left it alone, they could have been great forever but now we know what they become. Shattered remains.

Slmii92

@Dannystaples14 There is Naked Snake and Solid Snake, 2 different guys.

Play the games and you'll understand. Dont talk about things that you know nothing about...

Dannystaples14
Dannystaples14

@xobx1 @Dannystaples14 @splinter10 Yeah but they were shit after three and that was just the main series, the spins offs are even more unbareable.

He has one arm for fucks sake! Crawling around a ward after being in a coma for nine years. How can anyone say that isn't milking it? A bit of a difference from fighting Psycho Mantis and Metal Gears and the Robo Ninja guy who's name I forget, but he was totally fucking bad ass I know that. What is this guy doing that is bad ass?

I mean it goes into the flash backs right? Why the fuck does the younger snake look just as old as the old and have an eye patch and look like he has to be held together with sticky tape? Why would you want this?

xobx1
xobx1

@Dannystaples14 @splinter10 Jesus, what are you even babbling about? Snake on a ventilator? Cleaning up his bed?

And how are they milking the franchise? In 25 years they've had what, 8 games? Yeah, that's milking it alright.....
