Too bad that the "Encounter" theme from the original was replaced. (the tune you heard when someone spotted you). Takes away some of the nostalgia.
the people complaining about the controls don't make sense, this game controls better than the original. because of the 1st person aiming, you don't get shot by enemies you can't see, like in the ps1 version.
This is the only gamecube game I have beaten, after this I had no more reason to play gamecube. This is ten times better than the Ps1 original, I highly recommend this game to everyone. Metal gear Solid 4 was not as good as this.
sometimes this game feels like the greatest of all time to me then i remember when i thought rayman 2 or starfox adventures or shenmue 1 was the greatest all time. all i can say is something great was created when they decided to remake mgs1
Man this should've gotten a 9! This was one of the first times a game was TOTALLY remade, from graphics to voice acting, and it is still true to the original. I was really satisfied with this game, but I do find it a tad bit easier than the original because of the First Person option. Besides weird controls that you have to get used to, this game was an incredible remake.
strange, you'd think they'd re-release the original MGS on the PS2. I wonder why Konami chose the gamecube.
Great game. I have played through the PS version at least 10 times (no joke) this one is good but the controls turn me off a bit.
good game, though I still prefer the original PS1 version due to the better music and lack of matrix cutscenes, also the voice acting was somewhat better in the original. that said, if someone hasnt played the original , this is the version to get.
@kwanzudood Posted Sep 9, 2008 4:57 am GMT Doesn't this guy look just like Dwight from the Office? haha, yeah he looks allot like the dude. Tim Tracy is a great reviewer, his articulation is good, short review but straight to the point.
If you want to play this game, then play the original PS1 game. The cutscenes suck in this game and Meryl looks like a weird Asian. *spoilers* In the MGS1 the music during Sniper wolf's death made it so much more sad, but in the Twin Snakes the music feels awkward and ruins the moment. I'm not saying the Twin Snake is bad, but the original is so much better.
I played the original and the this version..Their both great, twin snakes is just an updated version. It still plays the same way, but if you find you should pick it up..Its alot easier on the eyes compared to the original..
so should i buy this instead of mgs1? I started at mgs4 then i bought and beat mgs2 and 3, now i want to play the first
I don't recommend this remake. The cutscenes are so over-the-top it takes away from the spy/stealth feel of the original game. Sure, the sequels to MGS were crazy, but the first game was a bit more grounded and calm. Perhaps even worse, the voice-acting is hammier than in the original.
Man, this looks great. I'm playing through the PS1 original right now but I think it might be worth trying to track this down just because it's so beautiful-looking.
Yo shabulia if you want this game you're gonna haveta look for it on eBay, it is the biggest pain in the ass to find, It's really rare.
This is one game I'd like to play. I love the original MGS and I think I'd love to see it reworked in the graphics of MGS2. If I end up getting a Wii, I'll have to get a copy of this game to play so I can enjoy MGS all over again.
Do yourself a favor and not play this game not for the story and cut scenes at least. And if you dont want mgs to be remade then give me a HELL YEAH!
Damn, I saw this once in a store and I tought it was MGS 2 so I didn't buy it. I haven't finished mgs1 nor got it legally so I shall find this version
You must be high off your ass if ya think this was better then MGS4. It was good but the flaw was...Game Cube..lol better then MGS4? kidding me!
@aaronorel Solid Snake and friends where on a nintendo before playstation.
