New games are exciting, but there are thousands of classics that most people have never played or even heard of. Peter delves into his ever-growing collection in search of underexposed and misunderstood games from the past.
Schedule: Mondays at 11am PT
Host: Peter Brown
This was the first RPG I ever played, it's what made me fall in love with the genre. I was about 10 at the time and it came along at the perfect time. I know it's a watered down RPG. But for me at the time it was perfect. Fond memories of this one.
Well that was a bit underwhelming. First the disappointment of it not being live and then you pick a safe game.
Why is it that "retro" must always mean SNES. There are sooo many retro consoles and computers out there. SNES is good and all but it's still way too much of a safe (read: boring) choice.
Then you pick a really well known game such as final fantasy and you'll get a big "MEH" from me.
I was hoping you'd find some underappreciated classics or games we've never heard of.
I hope it isn't a trend that you'll keep going with SNES and Mega Drive classics only.
Some variation and education can't hurt in my opinion.
This game was definitely not that great compared to the competition of its time. I had this on SNES and Final Fantasy 3 (actually 6) and Secret of Mana were much better games.
I wonder if any computer-centric old-schoolers would demand a similar show for old-school computer games too. Yet, no one other than Kevin at GameSpot is knowledgeable - and old - enough to do that.
@Conjuration It was my first RPG too. It pales in comparison to other Snes RPG's, but when I rented it for the first time as a 10 year old I loved it and it was all I wanted for Christmas. A year later I picked up FFIV (titled FFII of course) and it blew me away. I was hooked for life :D
I just found out some fans remastered the game using RPG Maker. Here is a link to the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DsHYQFSO7o
Probably better off playing the original...
@Saketume Your comment is a bit disappointing, do you enjoy anything?
@Saketume Well seeing as how the SNES is one of the greatest retro consoles, and an excellent entry into retro gaming for most people, that's generally the most common console for videos like these. Especially rpgs. As far as the game goes, I think quite a few people consider this an underappreciated rpg. And Final Fantasy is not a well known "game", it's a well known series. I'm sure quite a few people really just don't know much about the series aside from the recent couple games, mainly the XIII nonsense.
