 @Peter_Eater @Zulu1Tango I'll DEFINITELY be adding this to my library! The graphics and gameplay look pretty sick and slick. Seems like EA got it right.

As for the consultancy and morality issues....I genuinely salute any man or woman that fights for their country wholeheartedly and defends the freedom that allows us to even HAVE these games. (Try living in North Korea) If one has never been deployed in combat, never been in combat or a firefight with real live rounds and some @zzhole looking to poke holes in your computer....then one has NO RIGHT to comment one a soldiers moral mind state.

Anyway, just my 2 cents.

I wish ya'll peace....even in times of the opposite.

First off, @Peter_Eater @masterdeath31  you both are f"""in' idiots...a "serial killer" really!? So you mean to tell me, guys like him and I, who proudly serve our country on the frontlines and get deployed overseas or to combat (I'm on my 4th FYI) are all "serial killers" just because we are forced to make tactical decisions and put in combat situations!? Then again, I don't expect a civilian to understand that so your ignorance is somewhat justified. Next time, don't be so quick to disrespect the men and women of the Military Service REGARDLESS of their Country. It's ok though, I'll still be out here defending your Freedom of Speech so you and others can make ignorant comments like that...your welcome...this goes for all ignorant comments in reference to the Military Service. Criticize the game all you want, don't bring up the Soldiers that serve.

OK, so they got an Aussie sniper to talk about a lot of things- none of which appeared in the trailer, except for a conspicuously US sniper doing some crawling and aiming.

 I hate these kind of promotional videos where they get "specialists" (quotation marks because it's still up in the air as to whether these are actual troops in their respective army) in to talk about war and how it relates to the game.. It's just a bloody game; it doesn't even come close to comparing to actual conflict. To say otherwise is a slap across the face to all that take part in actual conflict.

 @Zulu1Tango  @masterdeath31

You are the idiot here.

Who declared war on Australia? Or US for that matter? Or any other country that deploys troops on foreign country just because they have different beliefs or are governed differently?

All of these are just acts of aggression under false pretenses.

And all those soldiers are cold blooded killers. Go kill a person and then talk about how that's a right thing to do.

I served in army in my country because it was mandatory, and I never shot at another person, I was never deployed to kill people that disagree with our politics.

Brainwashed morons like yourself support killing on pretense of defense.

Tell me again who invaded your county? Maybe terrorists? Do they have a state of terrorists now? Or are all Muslims maybe terrorists? Are the people defending their country from invaders (you precious soldiers and countries) the terrorists?

People like you are what gives those fat bastards in their parlaments the green flag to go killing innocent people and stealing other countries' resources.

You make me sick.

Celrebro

 @prince__vlad Quite actually the Aus SAS actually trained US SF during the Vietnam war in guerilla warfare and achieved a confirmed kill ratio of 600 to 1 with only 1 direct combat casualty through the entire war. In the Iraq war the US used the Aus SAS as a spearhead who were sent and captured the largest Iraqi air base alone with no casualties so that the US could use the airbase. The Aus SAS then proceeded to defeat the Iraqi SF unit with no casualties - a unit that in the previous Gulf War had captured the Brit SAS.

The Aus SAS are a highly reverred SF unit for their extreme capabilities, they train almost daily, and very few make it out of their selection process without injury - only a few out of a hundred will ever make it in because of how extreme they have to be.

But please, find an Aus SAS member and tell them they are pathetic morons, I would like if you did that, it would be good.

 @Dark_Matter1337 What I said wasn't offensive, civilians don't understand war because they haven't served or haven't deployed. So I don't know why people think they can come on here, start judging the Military or it's Service Members in what happens during Combat Operations, then try and get "offended" when they get called out for being ignorant. If people don't make ignorant comments, then the statement is not for them. We are here to critique the video game, not the Military. I'm not here to offend anybody BUT I will defend the Military Service.

Zulu1Tango
Zulu1Tango

 @Peter_Eater So since you have admitted to never being deployed in combat, you obviously don't know the first thing about it WHAT SO EVER so who the f**k do you think you are to judge another person on what is a righteous kill and what's not!? Your the ignorant brainwashed moron here my friend.... and coming from someone who "supposebly" served, to hear you speak like this really shows your ignorance. If you go back and re-read my statement, I said there are situations where we are "forced" to make such decisions based on our situation...not that we freely go around just massacreing innocent lives, as you so bluntly make it seem...f***in moron...

 @Celrebro You missunderstood me;) The ...mororns were those who thought bringing here Australian SF would be...a good idea;), I was talking to...THEM. And concerning your words in their behalf, well, I must admit, you've got, to some extent,  a point, but still they are no legend, they are just some average Joes, on the SF scale;). Try to keep that in mind.

 @West123  @arsenal1111 Not true, Arma II has a huge following. There are still people playing America's Army. There will always be a niche for the simulation. Most games we see these days don't even come close to simulation though.

While I agree 'fewer would play" and by fewer, I mean a lot fewer, I can't agree with 'nobody would play them'.

 @Zulu1Tango @Peter_Eater its bigger than that, hes not judging your military service or its members. but your gov't as a whole, and their plans to dominate the earth. and that goes hand in hand with you and your service. you look at it like i was there fighting and dying and all that, and we get it. but the point is why are you there in the first place. youre killing pple in the home, their land. you have no fucking right being there. there will be war time casualties, but youd rather it be there than in the US. You have killed more civilians in your "war against terror" than 9/11 plus the other attacks put together. read some international news and stop watching fox news and all the bullshit ur gov't feeds u.  you chose to go fight, it was your decision, and why? because u were brainwashed into it. romanticizing war is how ur govt did it. Pride, Glory, honor. Im sure if their marines commercials told u exactly what u are using to support ur argument, how hellish war actually is, u wouldnt even think twice about staying in your "civilian" home. pple who see war for what it actually is, even americans like you (im assuming you are american) come back and have genuine hatred for your govt for doing what they did to them, putting them in the face of death, under the pretense of defense, when all theyre trying to do is aquire land and resources, with the long term goal of taking over that region. open your fucking eyes and ur brain, or should i say the bullshit inside that skull of yours.

 @Peter_Eater Last time I checked, it's not just "my government" involved as you try to make it seem. I'm pretty sure there are still plenty of other countries still involved other then mine. I mean, I obviously I see them on a daily basis because I live and work with them, BUT AGAIN, you wouldn't know ANY of that because you are not here on the ground sweating and bleeding next to one another so don't talk about a subject you know nothing about. Seems like your the one influenced by the media and propaganda unfortunately because this f***in' battle has been dragged on for 12+ years or so and everyone is tired of it. Stop acting so self-righteous like other c**k suckers do and talk bad about a subject they either CAN'T do or WON'T do themselves. It's always the BENCH talking s**t from the sidelines, while the STARTERS are on the field. You obviously know your place...since you do it so well...I feel dumber just conversing with you...

Peter_Eater
Peter_Eater

 @Zulu1Tango

You are saying exactly the things that are drilled into your skull in training and by media. Hopefully you will one day comprehend what you and your comrades are actually doing.

Even that you are battling "insurgents" you will hopefully one day realize that you are battling and killing PEOPLE. They are not just a faceless bad guys, but people fighting for their beliefs, or even people forced to fight, and they are basically getting killed because your government decided to eradicate them for what ever agenda, and I can bet you that it is not just because they are bad people who are hurting good people.

And to the point of this video- this "Dog" enjoys killing- a trait of sociopaths and serial killers. There are plenty soldiers who feel remorse and are traumatized by killing another person, be he "insurgent" or not.

 @Peter_Eater This will probably be my last response since I see this is a waste of time...but...again, like you have said, YOU HAVE NEVER DEPLOYED to combat so it's hard for you to grasp the concept, so I realize your ignorance on this subject. ONCE AGAIN, you are making it seem like we just run into any random house and start killing the family that lives there. ONCE AGAIN, your f***in' retarded because it's not the innocent people of their country we are fighting, it's a a group of INSURGENTS that are the targets. The same group that attacks other countries, tries to overthrow it's own government, terrorizes it's own people...but AGAIN, you wouldn't know the first thing about it because you have never deployed so you don't know or hear about any of these operations. It's people like you who "serve" and then get out and bash the Armed Forces who make ME sick...have some f***in' pride in your service and don't bash others who are OBVIOUSLY doing more then you. Again, you wouldn't understand because you've never been, so don't be so ignorant. Stick to criticizing THE GAME and stop judging Service Members on subjects you know NOTHING about first hand.

 @Zulu1Tango

Righteous kill?

Are you hearing yourself?

Killing a person is MURDER, no matter how your feeble mind sugarcoats it.

And explain to me why are you FORCED to kill someone in their own home, their own city, their own country?

 @angry-slavicboy  @West123  @arsenal1111 Really? I think there's a disconnect between your reality and reality. The violence of combat is portrayed realistically and worse, all the damn time in video games. The immersion as you said cannot be, until they release properly functioning (and this is on the move by the way) VR goggles and gloves and such that give you full immersion to the point of tactile feedback, smells and tastes. But one step at a time and let's get the head to move differently than the body through VR headsets. Also, let's understand the difference between fear of a situation and the violence of a situation, they aren't always connected.

Immersion is a suspension of disbelief. IF you're immersed in an environment enough that it feels natural to be there, this is suspension of disbelief, and is all that is required for you to feel 'afraid'. IF you are facing the unknown, this is what is required to feel 'afraid'. Video games instill fear in people the same ways that movies do, and it's not all about realism of combat violence, it's all about playing up the unknown. The horrors of combat will most likely be felt if there is a connection between player and those which the violence is being acted upon.

It's not the violence in video games that isn't portrayed realistically. It's the connection you feel to someone that is being blown to bits or hacked to pieces. The suspension of disbelief that it's a real person instead of fictional character, that there is a concern for your own well-being coming  out alive, that causes this immersion. Has little to nothing to do with the depiction of combat violence, because when it's said and done, nearly every game has that nailed, at least in the first person genre.

Ultimately, you can feel afraid in a game... Just because you haven't experienced it, doesn't make it false. And the statement that nobody would play it, as a result, is also false. Whether you're afraid for yourself, or someone else is inconsequential. Fear is fear, and it's not beyond the realm of possibility to feel it in a video game. Some people go to movies specifically because they want to feel that jolt of fear, that startling moment when suspense catches up to reality, or vice versa, where their heart leaps into their throats because the expected happened at the unexpected moment. And for the record, movies are very detached, but they can still scare people. Where's the immersion when you're part of a viewing audience, not truly connected to the environment which may well be scaring you? This is the same problem in video games, and yet, some still have success in scaring the bejeezus out of people.

So combat violence not depicted realistically or to the level it needs to be for fear to be a factor? That isn't really the issue. The issue is the person's perceived connection to the environment and immersion within the world such that they feel a part of it and that connection is not without consequence. When the immersion, or the consequences are such that they matter, when you die, get injured, or run out of ammo, that you can't just go off and get more... That if you don't do it right the first time, your death is persistent... That if you make the wrong choice, this affects the game in such a way that it can cripple your forward movement through the world... This can cause fear... The amount of blood and gore, the realism of bullets ripping through flesh or axes hacking into someone and splitting them open, these things have all been depicted in gaming already and are nothing new. What you are referring to when you say 'real combat's violence' is actually 'real combat's consequences'. There's a huge difference between the two.

It's not about the violence, it's about the connection, the immersion, the consequences. And people would still play it.

angry-slavicboy
angry-slavicboy

 @Tora_Kuo  @West123  @arsenal1111 That IS simulation, but still nowhere near "realistic". The level of violence that REAL combat is can't be portrayed, and if it could nobody would play it. If it was possible to immerse you to that level where you can actually feel afraid, wich you can't in a game. Even ARMA 2
