Lightning Returns - TGS 2013
Max and Peter return to tell you about Lighning Returns, including the return of Choco-boco-lina!
Once you got past chapter 10, FFXIII was nothing short of amazing.
But then again, every FF was linear as hell for the longest time.
I think it is an insult to the great game FFX is that they put Yuna's costume on Lightning... FFX was a great milestone for RPGs back in the day.. FFXIII is a milestone on how low Square-enix has fallen...
"It reminded me of FF X-2, but in that game you had a much larger party to manage"
yes.. 3 people.... Very large party indeed.
I actually like the sound of the combat system. And i do like lightning, but they should have stopped at the first one and just make a new one already. one that isn't slow as hell with a story that's so bat-shit weird that you have to read through hours of explanations whiten the games menu system.
I actually really liked FFXIII, didn't find it as amazing as I found X and XII, but I found a lot to like. However, FFXIII-2 was a let-down. The ideas were pretty good, but underdeveloped. The story was also ridiculous, can't even remember what it boiled down to (something about time... and stuff). However, I look forward to how this will turn out.
Not for nothing but is anyone actually excited for this game to release? I would much rather a proper sequel to FF VII than the apparent milkage that is the FF XIII trilogy.
Square makes me sad. Watching them flounder like this, is like finding out that your cousin is addicted to crack. Please Square, just get off the pipe, and be the company we love again.
Why Square, why? Is having cameos from our favorite past characters supposed to make us inclined to buy this crap game?
Can we can all agree that:
#1: Lightning is a horrible character.
#2: SE should stop supporting and releasing her games.
#3: SE should stop releasing costumes of good FF characters for this crappy character.
#4: SE should focus on giving us good FF games?
FF 15 took so long b/c they chose to put it on next gen, it will be on both systems (it was never gonna be on Sony's plat). FF 15 will be very disappointing in my opinion, it looks great for hack and slash game. It just wont be FF. But I'm sure there will be some people who will say "if FF16 is not good im totally done with FF for ever", while they line to buy FF16-2.5 the next week. Maybe each generation of FF has its own fans im just so disheartened that a game company can so blatantly change the mechanics of a series that made it great and gave them SO MANY loyal fans.
This will probably be the first final fantasy game I ever completely skip... Oh how far have you fallen my beloved jrpg?
I might shell out for it when I see it in a 5$ bin a couple years from now just so I can say I got all 3 of them. I think XV is their last chance to sell me on the direction of FF.
At first when they said you change constum to change class ... it reminded me of Final Fantasy X-2 aka Charlie's Angels which was very very vey boring. Then they showed it in action and well, I like what I saw.
@calvinsora FFXIII: Something about challenging high odds and crystals.
FFXIII-2: Something about time.
This game: Something about time RUNNING OUT!
@calvinsora ...... completely ignores FF I-IX.....
@TalesOfGod 1: False. She's a good character, but she's being force fed down people's throats by pushing FFXIII so hard. She was just the right candidate to organize the rag-tag crew in the original XIII in a believable manner, but at this point, they're trying too hard to make her "bad ass for bad ass's sake". It's not the character. It's how Squenix is using it.
2: I'd be fine with that.
3: She isn't crappy, but I dislike how they're giving this character clothes of other characters. Most characters in a game or show normally has one outfit, but that's so people can recognize and build familiarity with that character. Instead of Lighting just being Lightning, she's being treated like a cheap ticket to popularity. Also, why even have dlc costumes in a single-player, one-character-only RPG?
4: I'd be fine with that. Hoping Bravely Default comes out to good reviews with a solid New Game +.
@TalesOfGod At least she's better then squal and tidus. That's not saying much though.
@GrayFlare They should have called it "Lightning XIII: Final Fantasy Returns".
@DeadorRock I know they stopped trying awhile back, but now they are just trolling.
@bubba_1988 surprisingly SE puts out amazing hack and slashes. Think FF7: Crisis Core, which I think most resembles FF15's game-play (from what I've seen so far), with FF12's real-time battle engagements. And think of the kingdom hearts series.
For me, I don't think I'll be disappointed. In fact, very excited for the game.
@jeremiah06 OMG yes! I love the final fantasy series. got started at 7 kept it going from the playstation releases and went back to "do my homework" but these new ones are PAINFUL to play. Since 12, I hate playing the game i don't enjoy the story, combat, leveling system etc. but by now i practically HAVE to play these games. What I'm doing now is waiting like 6 months after it releases so i can get it for like $20... (cause no one is buying it)
@jeremiah06 I skipped the last one. I'm waiting for 15.
@jeremiah06 Damn, last FF that was good was 10. You've played a lot of shit.
@johnnycaged She's definitely got a better figure.
@bunchanumbers I don't even want anything to do with FF XV. When I think JRPG, I think "strategy". I think "planning". I think "interesting move sets and abilities". I think "stat building". I think "amazing anime hair". Sadly, Squenix only got the hair right with the XIII series, and XV seems to abandon all those other things...besides the hair.
I know, I wish they'd stop with the XIII crap.
Why do they feel the need to expand the least liked game in the series so fricking much?
@RPG_Fan_I_Am @calvinsora I could include a run-down of my personal taste for the FF games (haven't gone sufficiently through III, IV, V and XI), but considering that X and XII were and are my favorite FF games so far, and that XIII was the FF game that came "after XII" in the strictest sense, those were the games XIII had to live up to. I could go on to say that I also think that VI, IX and VII are moderately to much better than XIII, but the series is so large that it doesn't really warrant such far-reaching comparisons in my opinion - that's more an after-the-fact thing, since I played XIII before I played VII, IX and VI...
@Goobshoeriot I stopped after 12, the game play was revolutionary (for FF). I loved being able to walk into an enemy, getting rid of the world map. However, the story and characters were bad. The story had so much potential too!
@bubba_1988 @jeremiah06 FFXII was actually really good. On Gamerankings.com, it's got an overall score of 90%, one of the best in the series behind X and VII.
I mean, why do people dump XII with XIII? With all the freedom and customizing, did people just not give a damn about having a large-scale JRPG experience simply because it was only semi-turn-based?
@erMonezza @bubba_1988 @Goobshoeriot Lucky for me, I'm not blind enough to down-play an entire RPG for story's sake. The game play and customization, as well as the amount of content, was way more than enough to excuse the lack of a romance or some overly-involving story that XIII is currently suffering from (my tutorials shouldn't last for EIGHT CHAPTERS OUT OF THIRTEEN!!!)
@TalesOfGod @bubba_1988 @Goobshoeriot Well its hard for some of you to assess whether FF13 was bad if you skipped it. I've played all of them, yes even X-2 (which I still think is the worst), but I don't agree that FF12 nor 13 were bad.
People who say the FF series has lost its touch in storytelling, or character development is really just outgrowing the series and the genre in general. If you took an unbiased assessment with FF13 and say FF6, 7, 8, or 9, you'll find that the amount of quality storytelling is quite equally comparable. The difference isn't that the series have change, it's YOU who have changed.
And of course nostalgia plays a huge factor in our evaluation.
I'll say. I didn't care about anyone at all in the main cast except for Baltheir and Fran (that was slightly).
In fact, my favourite character (and most developed) was Gabranth. He's pretty much the ONLY reason I keep playing the game and haven't sold it yet.
Man, talk about a shame.
@bubba_1988 @Goobshoeriot Yeah, 10 was awesome, 12 was already going down. The gameplay was fine, but the story had just too much politics and little good character interaction. No freakin' love story, damn it Square.
I completely skipped on 13 onwards. 12 was the last FF I played and if they continue like this, the last one in general.
