I was really disappointed with this... the cutscenes were not as funny, the levels are very short, the camera angle can be a pain on co-op and overall this lego game feels rushed out of the door. Ive played all previous lego games and loved them, this one was just poor though. The formula is just getting old now, I won't be buying another lego game until they change mix it up.
Here's hoping the next MOVIE fully captures the magic. I don't think this game is really that bad. Sure, it might have some issues like trying to find what you need to do, but that's also fun about it, at least in co-op. And I think the "cuteness" DOES carry a lot of the fun in this game.
@tataaaar It's not about how "cool" or popular something is. If this LEGO-game, that is maybe for childish to many "1337 gamerz", plays better than some hyped-up shooter, so be it, it deserves a higher rating then. It's all about gameplay and how well it's made. It's not rated to how interesting it is to someone.
@fundude365 you're right, I got this game and I love it! I just dont like the fact that you can't do coop on the 3ds. :(
I just downloaded the demo for this, and I was shocked to how good it was! Hilarious too! I'm defiantly going to get this game. Although I would of preferred some form of Online Multiplayer in this game, it doesn't bother me too much.
Yeah i'm with jasonjannajerry. It's actually one of the best in the lego series (I still think star wars the complete saga is the best =D). Gamespot wasn't thinking when doing this review.
Don't mind Gamespot. He hasn't been able to recognize a good or fun game since he fired that guy for reviewing Kane and Lynch badly. That being said, Gamespot needs to chill. There really doesn't need to be online multiplayer in the games. The Lego games are meant to be fun. If you are that desperate for an online game that you would want the Lego games to be online, than you need to get out of your mother's basement and make some friends. The game was a blast. It was incredibly fun. So says a long time fan. I've loved the lego games since 2005 when the first one was released and I will continue loving them until the series finally dies. It was not obtuse except for maybe a couple areas. The partners were actually improved if nothing else. The game was an all around improvement from Lego Star Wars 3 and Lego Harry Potter. Gamespot knows not what it's talking about.
I think going online coop with a game like this just detracts from the fun. Sure you'll get to play with a friend at any time, but you won't be able to berate them, for getting a puzzle wrong, with suitable force, nor high-5 them when that level complete sign pops up. This game just doesn't need online coop and more power to traveller's tales for keeping that extra controller used.
@TheNickall You will; Travellers Tales haven't failed to deliver a fun game here. There are just one or two issues that might get in the way of the fun if they occur too often.
I've pre-ordered the special edition of this game for my 3DS, now I'm sort of regreting it. I hope I still enjoy it.
No online is better than all of these games that are only online(IMO). I really only play games with my bros, and most new games (That aren't made by Nintendo) don't have local multiplayer, which kind of sucks.
I think he's just disappointed that the LEGO series has been lazy rather than innovative. Online co-op is the very least they could do to make the series more engaging. I love the games, but they can do better.
Wow, could Kevin sound any more bored. The complaints against this game are the same I have for all Lego games, still I do tend to enjoy them despite all of that.
I agree with solo1g, I know that the lego games are not as perfect as some of the more serious games out there, but when I picked up lego clone wars I just couldnt stop playing it. Its just fun, cant describe it anymore then that
@siarhei LOTR didn't have a range of LEGO toys so I assumed that it wouldn't have a LEGO game. But Pirates had a string of bloody Mega-Blocks toys, so LOTR is a possibility.
TT Games really needs to get with the times here. I find it extremely lazy they are not placing online Co-Op in the new games. Like Kevin said, they did it before. The thought of local co-op only is nearly laughable now days. I think they are rushing these games and need to cut back to 1 a year. Some improvements certainly could have been made to this and the new Star Wars Lego ( I have 100% of Achievements on now, but it did have flaws), which would have made them better games. Better camera angles, online co-op, and better direction on what to do or where an item is CLEARLY would up the ratings of these games considerably. I just think TT is rushing it a bit and should focus more on quality, not quantity.
I didn't really hear any major flaws and you gave it a 6.5? Are you trying to convince us that games below an 8 are worth the full price($50-$60)? As a huge fan of the first movie I'm definitely going to pick this up when it's cheaper.
Yet again another droning review from Kevin and poor rating. It's a lego game...all the games are pure fun. Seriously everytime there is a bad review from this reviewer I always ignore it...cause the games are really good and the reviewer is always...wrong.
think this deserves a higher score than Lego Clone Wars. no dark environments where it's hard to see where you have to go next or what you have to do. granted visual cues are just as bad, but at least the PotC environments are much brighter - making it easier. I can't believe they still haven't implemented online co-op yet. what century are they in?
As soon as I saw the score I knew Kevin reviewed it. This series may be the same with each edition, but so are your style of reviews. Seriously dude, you should actually sound like you want to review this rather than drone on about it. As for the game, I've talked to a couple of people who played it, and they said it was just as fun as the others. I don't see how this game can get such a low score when Lego Harry Potter came out a year ago and received an 8/10 despite being the exact same thing...complete with the awkward puzzles and unpolished tid bits here and there. I'm not sure what audience this is being reviewed for, but as far as I'm concerned, the main audience (kids) and those of us who are older and enjoy these games will be just as satisfied with this one as the rest in the series. Sure there are some frustrating moments here and there, but that's the way it is with all games. From a technical standpoint, this is probably a fair score, but you have to take into account the gameplay and the fun factor as well. This is yet another game that I think IGN reviewed better than Gamespot did.
Weird...it seems the Lego games have been constantly downgrading in quality. :? Glad I have the old ones still. :) Still, it looks good. I may get it, GameSpot is never always right in reviews and who knows. I could find it very fun! :D
@DanteDelacoix -- The series has done online play before. Why would not having online co-op be a refreshing change? I am not sure I follow your logic.
wow i honestly expected a much longer wait for another lego game. i mean we JUST got lego star wars 3 lol.
GS calling no online play an negative. Id say its a pretty damn refreshing change for once......then again there are alot of games that deserve more credit that GS has given these days
@b0sse Done :)
