House of Horrors - S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
This week Jess and Zorine try to find the horror in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and end up getting drunk and shooting at their friends
wow, Stalker, thats a surprise. amazing game. Still one of the best games to come out this generation. wonder why they are playing it as a horror game? There are scary things in it. When you go into some of the dark places later on, it gets freaky. But it only starts like most of the way through the game. Its quite far from the beginning and it would take quite a few hours to get to the scary parts.
that screaming monster is pretty freaky.
oh, gosh if youre going to play knock knock as 'survivor horror' that would classify games like pulse or deep dark down as the same. ...i mean pulse or knock knock is nice and all but its not survival horror.
some horror FPS suggestions:
metro 2033 (which would be a relevant choice since it and stalker draw inspiration from the same novel, roadside picnic)
I`m sorry you weren`t able to appreciate the game, there isn`t much horror in the first location you start (Cordon), once you go deeper into the Zone shit get real. But as someone pointed out, it`s more about atmosphere than anything else.
another suggestion for you guys is vapour. its a free incomplete game as of now but try it out and youll see something new. jess is up next right? please play this game. and after you beat the game and you will youll have enough time for insanity or paranormal. make it a two-fer. and i know the guide for vapour is right there so close to the download link on their page but dont read it.
Hi Zorine, Jess. It's too bad you didn't
know anything about this game prior to your show. One of the elements
that cause tension in this game is that the shooting mechanics are
supposed to simulate the real world. The bullets don't all magically go
exactly where the cross hair points. Especially with a handgun and
shooting from the hip. It was bizarre, Zorine, watching you shooting
without aiming down the sights and complaining how terrible the weapon
and/or the shooting mechanics were (I watched the Twitch.tv stream). Have you ever fired a real handgun?
As you two realized, this game was not a good choice for HoH.
Jess, I was very impressed with your Machine for Pigs show. For me it's much more enjoyable watching when you're not whimpering and pissing yourself every two minutes, hiding in every corner and facing into them for long periods of time. Keep it up! Fear is a choice.
Thanks for the show, Ladies. While this one was a failure, it's always a pleasure watching you two play. :-)
All the comments have disappeared?
Anyway, I just saw an indie game called "Knock Knock" on GiantBomb's Quick Look, thought you two should try it out.
The early levels aren't scary. It first starts to get creepy when you go underground and run into mutants. This game is generally pretty subtle with its horror, being more about atmosphere and immersion rather than jump scares and the like. I don't think it would be that scary with two people talking.
still waiting for clarification on what you really meant about that comment about beds... or are you making a reference to the quest 'a night to remember'?
@GameYakuza Singularity and Metro are not horror games. Metro might have something but not enough scary. And Singularity has nothing scary at all.
@daviz88 It took me some getting used to, but it's definitely streamlined our work processes much better. I'm a fan!
@crix01 I don't know, I'm quite disappointed to have seen them go!
@Tao_and_ZenThanks for the feedback. In Australia, individuals require a licence to possess a firearm. In addition to this, before purchasing a firearm you need to get a Permit To Acquire, which allows you to actually go buy a gun. In general, Australia is pretty uptight on letting people own guns.
I know this because of, er, reasons. Yeah. So to answer your question, no I have not ever fired a real handgun.
WAIT A MINUTE, you mean bullets don't magically go where my crosshair aims in real life? That's sooo broken. I totally thought I had crosshair vision. Crazy.
@simo_tmm The Marine level from AVP1 demo would work wonders. The facehugger in that level made me feel paranoid
@leviathanwing From myself, or Jess?
I'll answer what I meant - I thought it was cool that your character could rest in a spare bed, nothing more!
They have their moments, I try to contribute with similar games at every episode. You should try doing The same.
@Zorine I'm not sure how to interpret the tone of your reply. I don't have a license either, they're pretty tough to get where I grew up as well. I'm not really interested in guns, I've just known some people who had them and I had the chance to try them out on the range. They're pretty difficult to aim and I do appreciate that in games the bullets do magically go where the cross hair points. STALKER is not like that, though.
Anyway, I am a fan. I've watched every episode and generally they're good. In this one, it seemed to me like you two were distracted, like you had other things on your minds.
@crix01 @GameYakuza 3 million sales from a developer not known really with anything else. isn't a flop. The game is epic. One of the best Post Apoc games around.
@GameYakuza Stalker was a flop and you want them to play similar games? Telling them "no" is my contribution. Singularity is a shooter with some mutants, that's it. You said "some horror FPS suggestions, and my contribution is "Singularity and Metro are not horror games".
@Tao_and_Zen Oh now I see the S.T.A.L.K.E.R.... Do u want to marry one of these girls or something??
