Bethesda is trying to talk Microsoft into letting Elder Scrolls Online plays skip the Gold subscription, Killer Instinct a “generous demo” and Xbox One release date set?

dear Jess please can you help me here with understanding the elder scrolls online model..i wonder if i buy the game which worth 60$ do i have to pay subscription 15$ every month too o_0 ?!!!!!!
Bethesda lost me on Elder Scrolls online. Really looking forward to their next single player offering. In regards to the XBL stuff, if Microsoft makes an exception for one company they will have to start making exceptions for others...and I honestly see a very slim chance of that happening. What does an XBL Gold account get you, by the way? Never owned an XB...
Free2play means customers pay 0$. Don`t call it that if it`s not. PERIOD. Now get lost, greedy, pathetic losers.
Just a hypothesis. But with the upsurge popularity of Jess and Zorine. Isn't it coincidental that Face Bookers made their way to Game spot?.
I have a feeling Killer Instinct will fall WAY short of their expectations. It might be a great game, but I bet a lot of people will just play through it with the free character and then turn it off when they're done.
"leak" lol, only reason they wait is cause they would lose the christmas race agasinst ps3, the "delay" is strategical
I actually have a serious question for Miss Jess ( @tempertress ). Do you get a bit sick of every-other comment being about how attractive you are, rather than about you being an intelligent, capable journalist? It would get on my nerves a bit, but I've always wondered how female staff on Gamespot feel when like 50% of the comments are about how hot they are.
Keep up the good work, by the way. :)
The payment model is ridiculously confusing - it's like a trapcom technique but they just throw it all in your face. LOL. What happened to the days when games were made and well ... that was the game.
Personally don't even think Elder Scrolls Online shouldn't even go to the consoles, only accessible to xbox players who have a gold membership is the exact reason why ALL MMOs and free-to-play shit should only ever be on PCs, consoles aren't not built to support the platform and you'll always end up paying for "something" because nothing is free on the consoles.
While waiting for the ONE has a double graphics board which interest to take a PS4 which will be never capable of competing ^^
What's that background music? It's on every show, if I'm not mistaken. I'm not complaining, it's got a neat bass line. Just curious/ignorant.
I agree. It should be able to by pass the Gold subscription. However, Microsoft will never agree to that. It's just one more way they can screw you up the ass and suck every last dime out of their fans. That's why I'm switching my "console of choice" to PS4. I may still have to pay but at least Sony knows what they're doing in terms of goals, instead of copying what Sony does and, somehow, messing up every press conference they attend.
Bethesda will be using their own servers like any other MMO, why should it require gold subscription?.....not that i give a shit about the game.
Bethesda is stupid to think Microsoft runs 2000 networks with a total of 300,000 servers for free. Yea it sucks to have to pay $60 a month, but think of the electicity and maintenance for the servers alone on a monthly basis. Nah Bethy needs to lighten up their online price anyways. Im gonna tell walmart I want them to sell my products for free and will be back later to collect my profit, lol.
The business model for Killer Instinct is pathetic and a complete rip-off.
I've already explained numerous times on news article regarding the game, so I'll spare people from having to read it again - and myself having to type it all out again.
Microsoft aren't going to allow online games to be free of their XBL subscription fee. They're doing everything in their power to make people buy one in the first place and TESO will be just another excuse for them to sell XBL to you.
The only games that should not be subject to these extra fees are free-to-play games. We know Sony won't charge you for a PS+ account if you are playing an online free-to-play games. Don't think Microsoft have anything similar in place for free-to-play games, so why would they do it for subscription games?
Not that it matters to me anyway. I love TES, but there is no way I would play an online-only version of the game. An MMO Elder Scrolls just isn't Elder Scrolls.
I think ESO should be F2P. I dont think it has the ability to be better than WoW. Sad as that may sound, every single MMO that has come since WoW is now F2P. ESO should just realize that its not going to be any different. After finally seeing some gameplay footage, its clear that the combat isnt anything special, and it looks like Morrowind with a huge graphical lift.
That being said, why would I pay 15 a month for that? I'd rather spend my time in Skyrim and save the monthly fee's for XBL and play Battlefield and NHL 14 online.
About the Killer Instinct I'm quite happy about that specific "pay model", I don't get why people keep crying about something they get for free. Yes it could have been better with, lets say, more frequent character swap on the demo, but come on, if you're interrested enough to complain, then it shouldn't be a problem to throw the 20$ it costs to get the game.
I'm going for the 40$ version though, since the game is the sole reason I choose the XBone.
And for the Bethesda complaining about XBox Live fees I kinda agree, but not for them to get special treatment. I don't get the reason why we have to pay for more than our internet, console and game to play a game online. And I was kinda expecting Microsoft to change that with the XBone, but instead Sony decided that they also want extra money for nothing. It was one of the winning advantages the PS3 had over the 360, and now they're just both being more obvious about how much it's all about money.
And yes I know, it IS about money, but it would only make their reputations better if they didn't show it. Look at CD Project RED, everybody loves them for their way of doing business. Plus they were the ones who brough us GOG
@Sporks_Calamity i can't speak for other people but, i was a member here on GS long before i was on fb. it's just coincidence and the fact that social media is all linked up these days.
@Sporks_Calamity I like hearing the British accent and the canines in her smile.
@MooncalfReviews @tempertress I'm sure she does. She works in an industry where 75% of the community have never spoken to an attractive woman in their lives, and are just awkward around women in general. But it comes with the territory, no different than female sports casters who have to deal with meat-heads left and right.
@vackillers yea i agree. MMOs are subscription based games. even if they're free to play there is still some content that will be restricted with micro transactions. if you don't want to pay then don't play.
@dragonuts got a link to any of that info? would be pretty interested to see if the X-1 really doesn't have a dual GPU in it. Don't think either console has the room for that.
@botroo3 because all internet connectivity done through xbox is through xbl gold. that includes netflix as well. obviously not including game patches and the like.
@blown503And its stupid to think Bethesda will host an MMO game from Microsoft's servers... and i am not buying that 300,000 server crap they said at E3... specially after they debunked the always online requirement.
@Lord_of_Terrans All Maya
@Scorpion1813 Yeah, it should be normal 59€ game instead and with everything included in box.
*awkward clap - stupid face*
@Scorpion1813 an MMO is online only... i don't see how you can have an offline MMO?...
@gamespotpanayis after you get your xbox one.
@gamespotpanayis Would very much like to know that to, so I can order my KI
@gamespotpanayis i have no idea.neither do you.right?
@Cxera How rude! Not British, Australian! LOL!!
Nah I think it's unfair and sort of stereotyping intellectual males to say "75% of the community have never spoken to an attractive woman in their lives." Most men, whether nerds or bodybuilders or something in between, focus on a woman's looks all the time. It's actually offensive to me as a male nerd when people say that, because I've had plenty of girlfriends. We get by with our personalities. :)
I think the problem is just men in general, not nerds or socially awkward turtles.
That would be ideal, but I'd be satisfied with the characters being sold at half their current price.
I never said you could have an offline MMO.
Maybe you're getting confused, or misread what I said.
@MooncalfReviews @Blueresident87 I agree Mooncalf. It isn't so much attacking the stereotype of male gamers, but an overall issue with the way society currently treats all males. They way we raise them, what we tell them is ok VS. what it is ok for woman to do. I'm wording it terribly, but the basic point is society, and not just the United States, has a long way to go in the way we treat gender, sexual orientation, and physical/mental disabilities. One day!
Thank you for your insightful post. I also need less people to comment on Jess, and comment on the content.
