GS News Update: Watch Dogs runs at 900p on PS4, 792p on Xbox One
Ubisoft clarifies exactly how their game will look on next-gen systems, saying development time was spent improving the gameplay.
Ok what was the use of even buying a next Gen system if these games are not in 1080p. I mean come on its not next Gen then. I spent $530 dollars on my console can a developer please give me my moneys worth.
Anyone else remember the reveal of this game.....seems like 10 years ago.....what a bunch of bullsh*t Ubisoft...bad Ubi, bad Ubi.
Now this is a REAL TESTIMONY of the "power" the new consoles hold. Game looks like a this gen GTA and they can only run it in 900p.
Nothing but pathetic.
People have been arguing about which one to prioritize, resolution or frame rate. Now you have neither. All I hear are excuses and white washing of the the discrepancies between the hype they have generated and the grim reality. Don't get me wrong, gameplay is still the king. But wouldn't be nicer to have good gameplay while enjoy some promised true next gen graphics. I am growing less and less interested in this game. The devs are either incompetent to fulfill their promise or straight out lying through their teeth from day one.
absolutely pathetic. if there are games on last gen that could run at 1080p, then there is no reason or excuse as to why next gen console games can't run at full 1080p @ 60fps 100% of the time, when the hardware is more than 10X more powerful. if it weren't for some of the next gen exclusives coming out that I want to play, I would otherwise find no need in owning a next gen console.
I am sad to hear this. Weren't many of the dev companies the ones screaming about how they needed a new console generation to realize their vision, and how we players want a new console generation even if we don't know it yet? Now we have it, and the players have bought into it, and these same devs can't seem to even accomodate the baseline of graphic standards with these systems. 1080 and 60 fps or bust. We did our part, and shelled out for the new consoles with enough power to deliver the graphics that the devs said they needed and we wanted whether we knew it or not, now it is time for them to man up and deliver.
whenever i see the xbone games come out at "792p" it comes across just embarrassing. Just stick to 720p if they can't get the frame-rate at a solid 30fps.
That is excellent news (if it is true and Ubi aren't just lying their ass off) but I still think they should have gone further. 720p, 60fps and whatever graphics they need to use to get there.
The differences in resolution are minimal unless you are sat stupidly close to a massive TV or your TV is particularly massive to start with. Resolution makes the game smoother but most console games already have limited graphical fidelity anyway.
But I think 60fps should be the next gen standard.
And here I was upset about still only having a PS3. I guess if the game is capable of running on an old console it wasn't very advanced to begin with. This game is over-hyped, anyway.
I preordered it with my launch Ps4 expecting the system to easely run 1080p at 60Hz. Now a year later I switch to the Pc version
It's time XBOX and Microsoft fans accept that their system of choice is simply not good enough to compete with the PS4. PC gamers, stay out of this. The consoles will surely be able to run this game well, A fact which MANY PC gamers including myself will not be able to say. Many PC games don't run well enough and do justice to modern rigs thanks to poor ports, system specific bugs, crashes, overheating etc. Knowing Ubisoft and their fascination with DRM, I expect similar poor performances on PC with this game. PS4 is the BEST system on next gen. It's a fact which is finally coming through and Microsoft are indirectly acknowledging it as well, thanks to a price cut yet again.
Pretty good, really funny! "But" the only gamers, who still doesn't know if the game is going to run properly on day one, are the PC gamers.
Considering how hard is for developers to display their hd games on these "next gen" consoles, the only explanation I can think about is that Sony and MS are planning to shrink the consoles life cycle to 5 years.
Why is the self proclaimed "master race" acting like this is news? Did you really think that this generation was going to perform better than PC? The last generation of consoles was running games at HD upscaled 580p while PC was running the same games at 1080p. Nothing has changed.
Quality of graphic effects and gameplay are way more important to console gamers than resolution. Console gamers won't notice the difference because they aren't sitting 2 feet away from the screen.
It's odd to see the PS4 getting the same derision this time around that had been previously reserved for the XONE. But I'll say it again: We console gamers have had very few games that run at 1080p and even fewer of those that run at 60 fps. So why are we acting like we've been robbed of some precious benchmark that we've never achieved anyway?
Both Sony and Microsoft really should have upped the specs of the new Gen consoles... both released mid/low range PCs, unlike last Gen because they didn't want to take a hit on every console sold, we are going to suffer the next 6-8 years if average looking games are already sub 1080p and only 30 fps, frankly I don't think they are too far from Wii U hardware, since this game will most likely be 720p on Wii U and will have second screen functions.
So, pretty much most of us that bought next gen consoles only wanted a game made with last gen in mind. If the resolution is lower then the frame rate should have been higher. The compromise needs to be reasonable and to me it's not. In Ubisoft having more time to better optimize all aspects of the game it decided to go the easy route and just add more of what it wanted weighing the performance down instead causing it to sacrifice resolution and frame rate. I think that if the Xbox One and PS4 would have been more complicated and less closer to the architecture of PCs that a great deal of developers would be in trouble when it came to getting out their games. As a consumer/gamer just remember you only get what you accept If you start off accepting below par you will always get below par because you said it was ok. I've had this game reserved since last year, at 1st on the Xbox 360 and then switched to the PS4 version but now I think I will cancel the reservation and wait for global ratings before picking it up at some point. I can wait a little longer.
While I'm glad that Ubisoft focused on gameplay over visuals, it does bother me a little bit that A) They are mentioning this now only days away from launch, after people already pre-ordered and B) That they couldn't achieve full 1080P at 60 FPS on either next gen console. I know that visuals aren't the 'end all' to gaming but its important and in this day and age of technology there should be no excuse for it. I'm sure resolution drop won't make it any less enjoyable to play but we bought next gen systems to play next gen games on didn't we? I know I did.
I knew a game like this would not run at 1080p and 60fps on any console. I said Sony reporting that was a simple mistake and I had so many Sony fanboys disagreeing with me and claiming that it would run at 60fps and 1080p. Those people sure do look silly now. They tried to rub it in the faces of PC gamers and Xbots, but they were just being ignorant. They don't seem to have any clue about hardware and what is actually feasible.
@navy125 Any game could run in 1080p at 60fps on either the XB1 or PS4. Though to do so you must sacrifice other, in the developer's view, more important aspects of a game's graphical fidelity. Which would essentially defeat the purpose. Since you would be left with a game in 1080p that offers a less impressive experience over all. Both systems are capable of far more than their predecessors. It takes time for the true potential of a new generation of consoles to be realized though.
All these complaints that "If it can't run everything in native 1080p then it's not next gen" are frankly silly. The more people that demand 1080p above all else the more likely devs will skimp on things like a.a., texture detail, and essentially every other important aspect of a game's graphical fidelity just to hit 1080p. Which would then be the new "it" thing to complain about "on the line."
@navy125 As it turns out next gen really don't have what it takes!
@Ripper_TV First of all it looks much better in most respects than GTA V on the p.c. and next gen systems. Secondly it is a cross-generation game. We will never see the true potential of the new systems until developers begin focusing on solely on them and p.c. That's how it's always been when new consoles come out. You people sure love to complain though. I'll give you that. If only pointless complaining were a lost art...
@miinoh You are of course right. Anyone with minimal understandings of hardware knows this generation is doomed as it lacks the power to evolve like others did.
The trend in gaming now are open worlds, and you just can't have giant open worlds at full true 1080p and 60fps with the current consoles no matter what the devs do.
So while this console generation dies and promises to end consoles for good we have fanboys flaming each others over a few differences in resolution not realizing the future is a downhill slope for all.
Did I mention 2k 4k? Sony is know focusing on making 4k TVs like everyone other manufacturer and 4k gaming is light years away from this console generation.
@miinoh I would go with lying. all part of the over hype this game is receiving. By the time it's released less and less people are going to give a shit, and it won't sell half as good as it would have last year.
With all of the 'true' specs for next gen games coming to surface, I am starting to consider spending my money on a $600 PC over next gen console more and more these days.
@FretsOfDeath Games evolved faster 10X more power means nothing. Open worlds need a lot of power and consoles just can't handle it
@Dannystaples14 Next gen is currently heading into streaming games making the "consoles" hardware not so important. We will basically need to have internet connects and far better ones, and everyone can say what they want but there ain't stopping this.
If graphics are a priority to you - why are you a console gamer? PC will always have the upper hand.
I'm gonna assume you owned a PS2 over an original Xbox that had twice it's power and every multiplat looked glaringly different. What's that? You did own a PS2? Thought so.
Marketing sells consoles, not graphics. Historically, the stronger system rarely wins the race.
@Metalnoid How's that? The specs are known, so you can find out for yourself if your PC can handle it. Furthermore, you can change settings on the PC version.
@StonerDemon Make it 3 or 4, and by then the difference between consoles and PCs will be like playing PS2 in 2014 with less good games
@StonerDemon Keep telling yourself that. Do you even realize that at the current rate games are improving this console generation will have a life of 3-4 years max?
Currently games are being downgraded to work on both consoles so what do you expect in just 1 or 2 years from now? With 2k, 4K resolutions on the horizon and waiting to become mainstream this console generation was dead from the beginning.
So continue to argue about who was the better resolution for the little time you have, but trust me, the numbers won't go up for either of them in the future.
@kik4444 We have heard that bullshit before. Try something new and yeah, enjoy your crashes and stutters.
@virtuasega They have to much time on their hands. Guess they needed a break from their 100th play-through of WOW
@HybridExtreme Ur right
@cws3e Sony had posted the information based on specs given to them by Ubisoft.
@kalipekona unless they dramatically downgraded the graphics, which would of sucked!
@kalipekona DIdn't bother me, I was buying the Wii U version. :)
@tchanah @navy125 or it could be that theyre still getting the hang of familiarizing themselves with these consoles' hardware. first generation software on a game console usually adds up to subpar performance in the visuals department during its first generation of game releases. i say usually because it was the opposite for the 360, which isnt typical.
Good. You're doing it right. Nobody should be playing on consoles if they want the most cutting edge visuals. Expecting cutting edge 'next gen' visuals along with 1080p, 60fps and great image quality on consoles is unrealistic.
That doesn't mean that the graphics won't be good or enjoyable, it just means people need to calibrate their expectations a little more realistically.
I have Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros 3DS to keep me occupied through the summer. Winter/Fall comes around I'll grab up Watch_Dogs and Smash Bros U, Plus for me, realistically the gamepad is just another reason not to use my phone for so called "extra features". I'm still expecting something like 720p native, not too graphically bad, but better than the PS3/360 versions.
