GS News Update: Nintendo to launch new console in emerging markets
President Satoru Iwata says Microsoft's plan of releasing their current hardware in China wouldn't work for them, Nintendo needs to do something new.
this does make sense for middle class citizen in developing nations, Xbox1 in china will fail as piracy is very common and the original games will not sell much in Asia for xbox 1 as the games are a bit more expensive, take Brazil for example you have to spend a fortune to buy ps4/ xbox 1, Nintendo on the other hand will release cheap console with cheaper priced games so piracy will not affect as people can buy original games. even in middle east the games which should be priced 50$ is priced 60$ - 77$ in middle east ps4 costs 520$ and xbox 1 costs 600$ so Nintendo can hit for consumers who cant spend so much on gaming needs.
This makes sense. People need lower prices in developing countries. a low cost nintendo console able to play ports from the last few systems will sell in china. Needs to be hd though.
Southeast Asia has by far the fastest growing middle-class population. Every day, tens of thousands there become middle-class. However, many can't yet afford a $400-$500 console, but they have some disposable income to now throw around. A cheaper console would sell. These emerging economies are the future and have been largely untapped. The US middle-class is on the decline. Nintendo could corner emerging markets, build solid brand loyalty, and sell more expensive consoles in those regions in the future. This is a great move, and Nintendo has the sort of properties and ability to make awesome games that don't have to have maxed out graphics to be interesting. Nin. is also centrally located to take advantaged.
@onixevil Their not discontinuing their current console and making a new one, their making a small console for the new regions with their restriction lift (such as China). Doubt it will affect the WiiU.
yup, amen, brother. This is very likely how they are thinking. A Dreamcast-like or PS2-like machine would likely sell millions of units.
@markranger Aren't there already a lot of generic Android based gaming focused devices in Asia?
@sephirothsfan02 God knows what means for Sony then.
