GS News Top 5 - Xbox One and PS4 talk specs and Steam shares
Playstation 4 and the Xbox One duke it out over which console will run faster, and lots to talk about regarding the Playstation Vita and Vita TV.
I never cared about consoles , as i'm a pc man through and through, but had i had to make a choice, i would have gone for an xbox 360.
This new generation however its becoming increasingly and worryingly clear i may have to buy a console as well if i want to continue playing AAA games ( its starting too look like Microsoft is trying to kill of a lot of the PC gaming, and keep the PC as solely a MMo platform only).
Th irony is the xbox one is starting too look inferior to the ps4 by quite a large margin when you consider the previous generation where they were neck and neck. You do have to have a good knowledge of pcs to understand why i'm saying this ( as on the face of it the xbox one and ps4 look like they have the same specs, but they do not, the ps4 is 50% faster ).
What does this mean, well when you also consider that the ps4 is also A LOT cheaper, and will have the same games ( but probably with better graphics, but defo will have better frame rates),i cant see how anyone will actually prefer the xbox one ( unless kinect really peaks your interest ofc). So my choice has been made for me, im forced to buy the ps4.
Only issue is I love the mass effect series , if thats an xbox one exclusive, im gonna be forced top buy that also.
I'm still hoping however Microsoft renege's on their PC gaming stance and then i can just buy a new graphics card instead :D
TLDR, From a totally unbiased viewpoint the PS4 is looking heaps better than the xbox one when it comes to the the stuff that matters ( price, performance and customer freedom), but we may still be forced to buy both if xbox ones gets all the good exclusives.
Come on now, we want to see the Mass Effect news promised on the link, not a broken to last weeks top 5
Oh please please please pay attention to my insight! I'm so lonely and I so desperately wan't people to acknowledge my useless opinion in a scumbag filled internet comment section.
I read all those comments about console war and I can't help but laugh my ass of!!! :D I am a pc gamer myself, I may buy a ps4 when I get the money but that's only because of infamous ss and some other games, I am still going to be a pc gamer and play a little on consoles I love my pc I have it for the past 6 years and now I am going to upgrade it in the following months by spending about 220 € for obvious reasons having the same pc over the years and upgrading it is great. But I still can't understand why there is so much anger in console wars, I first thought it was just teasing and fun. Well maybe someday I will understand.
Am beginning to tire of these speed/performance comparisons. My PS3 and XBOX 360 look as good as each other, and when I eventually have both of the next gen it will be the same.
I love the thought of having a Vita TV as an extra to the handheld.
The state of gaming is a disgrace.
Smug gaming journalists who try so hard to appear counter culture hip, missing the point of what makes gaming so great, they carry barely concealed ambitions to improve their journalistic credentials to gain them access to another journalistic subject away from gaming. They try to engage by pandering to a minority of short attention span misfits who unfortunately are a vocal minority. They expect not to have to read more than two sentences – they assassinate calls for the correct use of the English language – god forbid anyone calls them out for incorrect spelling or grammar.
I’m referring by the way, to both the journalists and their readers.
A total disengagement from the immersion a game can create. A flippant, dismissive attitude to anything other than what they like. A disdain for the medium due to age, attitude and entitlement.
XBOX vs PS vs PC?
The attraction of the latest, greatest game, overriding everything else. All other previous games, especially anything over 5 years old would be ludicrous to play, surely?
Ridiculous mods for great games that make front page headline gaming news?
The hand wringing as to why gaming isn’t more appreciated?
The obsession with the multi-player experience when the silent majority only use it for casual gaming? Casual gaming includes MMO’s by the way. No-one is immersed in MMO’s – they are addicted possibly, but not immersed.
The complete and utter failure to appreciate and embrace what makes gaming so great. Propagated by games journalism that caters to a rabid, attention deficient minority, motivated by THE NEXT BIG THING ™.
The more I read of the gaming press and their social media following drones, the less enamoured I am of modern gaming culture. I know the internet is the king of anonymous opinion and statement of fact. It’s also king of the smart one-liner responses.
Sound bites... 140 characters to express an opinion… smart ass responses to forum posts… you’re welcome to it all.
You know what’s a shame? I can’t remember the last decent article on a game I read, on any format, that wasn’t instantly disposable…
forgot to mention that that article floating around about speed is complete BS and those stats were before anything got optimized.... Seeing as MS is well known to be significantly better at that than the ps4, even if these specs were true the final product would be much much more negligible
From FF 14 ARR Ad to COD Ad ..... *Sigh* well at least its shorter than FF14 ARR teaser
On topic : Well at least PS4 is originally made for gaming , Not TV and Gaming .
GTA winning game of the decade would have been the top story of the week... if it actually happened. Now the article is buried and the first rule of ES winning game of the decade is not talk about ES winning game of the decade.
I like the Steam Family Share thing but I think it's only real drawback is that if you can share it with 10 friends and family but only 1 of them can use it at a time, yourself included, how are any of them going to actually find some time to play anything in your library?? I think it would work better if it could be accessed by all of them at the same time, just not the same game at the same time, because these things always have to have some sort of drawback.
I am so glad to see that GS News hub is getting better and better and My PC gaming library usually consists of adventure games that none of my friends play.
30 fps vs 20 fps on next gen console LAWL PC gaming master race laugh at said benchmarks (yes I know they will be able to run some at 60) duh
I hope they make it so you can both play on the same account as long as you are not playing the same game
I just want to be able to download on one computer while I'm gaming on another with the same account..
@tomservo51 I was just wondering the same thing.
PC fanboys can be dumbasses as well. Especially those self proclaimed "PC Elitists" who act like they have been PC gaming their entire lives when they only started PC gaming like a year ago. They got their lego piece gaming PC put it all together (or get someone else to put it together for them) and start downloading games on steam and act all "PC MASTER RACE" when they spent most of their lives gaming on consoles and know absolutely nothing about the legacy of PC gaming. "PC bandwagoners" are another funny one. These are the clowns who near the end of the console generation when the graphics of the consoles aren't that good anymore due to aging hardware start bashing the consoles and go over to PC and then when the next gen consoles come out, they go right back to console gaming again.
and then there are the steam fanboys These clowns are the ones when every time then is a steam sale they buy like a hundred games and they don't even play most of them. So really, they bought a bunch of games they didn't even really want. They just bought them because they were cheap. Then they brag to console gamers about how awesome steam is when all they did is just piss away their money on a bunch of games they are not going to play. I don't care how cheap you got a game on steam if you are not going to play it, you just wasted your money. You look at their steam game collection and they have like 100 games on there and have only played like 10 of them in the last year. It's pretty funny. Yeah steam is so amazing yet they don't even play the games they bought lol.
@otaku95 Does daddy know you swear on these forums?
@otaku95 Until your next God is released, eh? :)
@stateofthings You know it's a pretty sad state of affairs for gaming when they talk more about specs then the actual games coming for the system.
@stateofthings Welcome to the future of entertainment. What do you really expect? As time and technology moves on, so does the next generations attention span. How do you think people in their 80's or 90's feel about us? All they had were books, and if they were lucky an am radio back in the day. This feeling of being out of place and time only gets worse the longer we live. By the way the gamespot staff are always very appreciative of pointing out spelling errors so they can fix them.
@stateofthings The idea of "the next big thing" should really be next and big. Sort of saying the next game should have taken all previous games into account in making a new and better game which has learned from previous games pros and cons. It's why some games are said to 'revolutionize' video games. Ya dig? Don't get angry becuz of spelling and grammar as it can be a form of trolling. Welcome to the internet.
Also, you created an account here just to whine. What a way to spend your time.
Then why do you bother keeping an interest in gaming?
@mdrieber The first half of your comment only semi-makes sense, as I'm having trouble getting >exactly< what you mean though I have an idea. Well first things first, source? If you're gonna call BS at least explain why. Also remember that the article refers to the current state of things (neither console will be really optimized/used to full potential for a few years).
If the article is true, all they're saying is that the X1 is holding multi-platform games back at launch because developers don't want Microsoft to be angry with them by making both version as best they can but the PS4 version being noticeable better. If the article is "BS" as you described, then it means nothing. Of course for your comment to hold any weight (and to help get my/others' facts straight) a source would be lovely :).
@MAXAM999 Anonymous sources = Mark Cerny and his friends who worked on Knack.
@Toysoldier34 Still a cool idea and a great entry-level console for those who don't want to shell out more than a hundred. Reverse-remote play would be cool too I guess though.
@Battle_Pants Your profile picture makes me happy :3
@Battle_Pants This comment made me happy!
@obsequies I want to be able to download a Steam game while playing another one on the same computer ... why is this not possible? (I'm actually asking so, if someone knows, I'd appreciate it if you told me.)
@Zain884 aha ok I see what you're saying but there are also stupid or funny call them however you want console <<gamers>> kids. Me, I just prefer pc gaming because I just do so I don't care about steam (I mostly order the physical disc ,ya I know old-fashioned) and every other thing you mentioned I just like playing games on my personal computer ( ;) see what I did there?? PC?? ) there are also many good quality f2p and mods but these are just minors to me. In conclusion all I said is I don't get it why gamers have to fight with each other for the companies, they have differences we play games don't we??? Yes, there is also a little fighting on the pc territory about which machine has the fastest CPU,GPU but that is just teasing between us and has nothing to do with gaming, so yeah that's my point why all this hate between you guys 0.0
I just think it’s a shame. I don’t use my preferred gaming platform as an excuse to beat fellow gamers over the head with because I think mine may be superior. The gaming media cultivates this frenzy. I don’t think gaming is as disposable as it is portrayed. There are genuine classics out there, across all formats, that don’t need a makeover to make them appeal to the attention span deficient generation of gamer we currently have.
We seem to suffer from all the social maladies that don’t affect other entertainment mediums. I love gaming. I’m glad I am a gamer, and despite having a full time job, and a family, I make as much time as I can to play games. All I’m saying is, if I was trying to convince a non-gamer of the qualities of gaming as a hobby, unfortunately I’d struggle to point them in the direction of any of the high profile gaming websites. I mean just look at the majority of forum posts around any game you can name…
My registration to make a post doesn’t invalidate my point does it? Or is registration date and number of posts now a benchmark of loyalty and/or relevance…
@s3as3a When you start up your second game, alt-tab out of it, go to Steam, pause and unpause the download (it should start downloading again), then switch back to your game. Wish this wasn't necessary, but at least there is a way.
@Zain884 oh and the only console I have ever owned is ps one I played crash bandicoot, good days....
Spare the rant for someone else who is not tired of blokes whining about how the game industry has changed to something that they don't like, dude.
