Everytime I hear news of a new Resident Evil-game, I get mixed emotions: firstly, I love(d) the Resident Evil game-series, but after the RE6, I was devestated. I cancelled my pre-order and replayed "Resident Evil: Code Veronica" for my Dreamcast...yes, I still own one.
Secondly, I -still- have hopes for the series to pick-up again and return to its survivor horror roots.
On the Wii U - Only thing holding back this console is 1) Lack of good games and 2) an obsessive compulsive disorder perpetrated by Nintendo that fixates on controllers.
Nintendo was and in my opinion still is the king of quality gameplay. While Sony and Xbox developers gear up to crank out the next generation surge of FPS_Whatever, Nintendo is the place to get all kinds of varying gameplay, including aforementioned FPS games.
And while interesting game controllers can be a welcome novelty, I truly believe (especially since the Wii U) that controllers should NEVER be in the top 5 marketing bullet points of a new console. The first 5 bullet points of a new console should be: 1) Games, 2) Games, 3) Games, 4) It's about the GAMES, 5) Did I mention GAMES?
3DS used Mario 3D Land and Ocarina of Time to boost sales. Wii is using Mario 3D World and Wind Waker to boost sales. Seems like a winning strategy.
After a long time I decided to buy a Wii U and I have to say I was hating on it for all the wrong reasons. Sure the only thing that was correct was the lack of games but that's changing now and I'm really enjoying myself playing it. Really looking forward to Super Mario 3D World, the new Mario Kart and the new Donkey Kong!
It's pretty sad, that only thing that selling WiiU is HD port of the old game. Guess it proves that Nitendo isnt what it used to be.
I enjoyed RE4, RE5, RE Revelations and RE6 so I can't wait for RE7 on next gen. Speaking of next gen, "Watch Dogs" was my system seller and now that it is delayed, I am delaying my next gen system purchases. Killzone and Dead Rising 3 are not enough for me to shell out $900 and I can play ACIV, COD Ghosts and Batman AO on my PS3, WiiU or Xbox 360. Not to mention that GTAV, Beyond: Two Souls, Rayman Legends, Rain, Pikmin 3, Sonic: Lost World and The Wonderful 101 are already out. And Super Mario 3D World and DKC: Tropical Freeze are coming. I'll wait until next year when next gen delivers "Watch Dogs", "Dying Light", "inFAMOUS: Second Son", "The Evil Within", "Resident Evil 7" and "Doom 4".
Resident Evil will most likely never return to it's true form because Mikami who created Resident Evil isn't with Capcom anymore, it's really that simple.
The reason Wii U sales have risen almost 700% is because they've been abysmal before now. They really only had two options of where the system was going to go. It was either going to fail completely and disappear or the sales would increase. But even a 685% increase still really isn't that many for the system as its still a market confused product with no real games to attract people to buy.
Heard: "Xb1 named breakthrough product." Thought: "wow, maybe it's better than I believed."
Heard: "the magazine singles out the kenict camera's capabilities." Thought: "Nope."
I'll never argue that the X1 didn't innovate. It certainly is doing things that have never been done before (or at least to that level of complexity). However, those aren't things that I want. For example, it will be very innovative when we invent a car that can drive itself, but I enjoy driving so I don't want to pay 25% more for a feature that I just don't want.
What I do want is a box with plenty of horsepower and a good software lineup. I'll admit, PS4's software is lacking right now, but in time I think it will improve. I do think the X1 fits the description of what I want, but I feel like MS has shown their true colors with their pre-180 policies and, because of that, I don't want to put my money in their pockets. I know Sony is greedy too (all companies are), but at least they didn't have the audacity to tell me the freedoms they would be taking away from me and essentially telling me that it's for my own good.
Without Watch Dogs, its tough for anyone to give a reason to get a PS4 other than some better graphics. Xbox One is the big new thing and everyone is starting to realize it, keep hating Sony fanboys!
I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Wii-U makes a comeback this holiday season, it actually has more positive public feedback than the X1 right now which means it's second choice for a lot of people who won't be able to get a PS4.
Still the Wii-U really needs more good games, it's been around how long and still doesn't have enough great games to warrant a purchase, at least for me.
Who wants a rushed game, lets have the full polished thing out first time rather than constant add ons.
I really do hope they go back to the roots of Resident Evil. Resident Evil 6 was the biggest letdown ever. Leon's story was good, Ada's story was good, Chris' story was good but the gameplay wasn't, & Jake's story was ass. So Capcom, shady business practices aside (on-disc dlc), I'll give you guys one last chance to make a good Resident Evil game. You say your going back to the roots. Ok. I'm onboard. But this is your last chance. Now if only we could get you guys to remake Resident Evil 2 just like Resident Evil on the GameCube...
Whoever controls that music fading in and out has something they should be fixing. Anybody watch before it was put up?
To the thing with Watch Dogs... I would much rather have a high quality game that they took their time with than a mediocre one they rushed out the door.
Wii U sales... whoa. I knew theyd go up when it had a Zelda or Mario title but 685% just for a re-release of wind waker? That's impressive...
About MS... lol. I have suspicions that Microsoft paid them off to say that in their magazine. Maybe not it just sounds like something they'd do.
I haven't even played a Resident Evil game since Code Veronica.
I do think the Xbox deserves its title. People may not like Microsoft and the Kinect might be overall useless to most but having Infra Red cameras and heart beat monitors on your console are pretty awesome. Anything that can passively monitor "things" about your person and translate them into the game without you having to wave your arms around to do it, is perfectly fine by me.
Take your time UBS - make the game right. Now, what would be sad, is if it stills ends up sucking after this delay :p.
Wii U - what's that? :D
MS and PM mag comment - an accolade? Not so much IMO.
How about this, let the fans and gamers be the judge of what system shines or not or deserves any laurels.
Wouldn't that make more sense?
I don't know how to feel about RE7 being in development... I'm not exactly psyched for it. Honestly, I'd rather see another ZombiU game than a Resident Evil.
@Kyrylo The reality is ALL consoles are purchased for their software. Always remember, and never forget, PS4 & XBone will have re-released software for their units as well. Always remember, and never forget.
@Kyrylo So that by logic, Sony must not be what they used to be given all the PS2 games they ported to the PS3 as HD collections. Sony releases a gazillion HD collections of PS2 games, no one bats and eye. Nintendo rereleases Wind Waker in HD and everyone loses their minds.
@Kyrylo Utter tripe, it just shows that Zelda WWHD has stood the test of time and is a classic Zelda game and people are jumping at the chance of experiencing this brilliant game again in stunning high definition.
Also it doesn't show that Nintendo isn't what it used to be. You forget that the Wii sold more units than the superior Xbox 360 and PS3. The DS shifted 155million units, more than any other handheld console in history. The 3DS is doing well and with the introduction of the 2DS will continue to grow to new heights meanwhile the PS Vita isn't being used as a device for the PS4.
Pikmin 3, WWHD, Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8, DKC:TF, Super Smash Bros and lots of stunning titles on the 3DS format show that Nintendo is very much at the same high standards it has always been at and always aspired to.
@OmniScynce i dont think you understand how stupid your comment is
@endorbr Whatcha gonna say when WiiU outsells PS4 & ExBone in the end?
@endorbr Sales could rise by 10,000% and wii u haters would still bash it.
@93ChevyNut i wouldnt say sony is greedy, they werent making money on the ps3 for over a year when they first released it
@UNCStriker88 Killer Instinct and Titans falls is what;s Killing the PS4....Killzone and Infamous been around since the ps2 days,,,,they coulda gave us something fresh instead
@UNCStriker88 I am sticking with Sony: God of War, Uncharted, inFAMOUS, Resistance, Killzone, Little Big Planet, Heavenly Sword, Twisted Metal, Rain, Journey, The Last of Us, Beyond: Two Souls, Unfinished Swan, Yakuza, Playstation All Stars Battle Royale, Heavy Rain, Ico, Shadow of Colossus...when Microsoft announces Alan Wake 2, Left 4 Dead 3, Gears of War 5 and Deadlight 2...then maybe...
@UNCStriker88 i dont care about the consoles, theyre pracically the same, what i care about are the excusives and as i want driveclub and gt6 (when released on ps4) i will be getting a ps4, also the xb1 looks like a pile of wank, the ps4 looks awesome so thats a plus for the ps4 right there
@mkeezay22 To say alot people hate the Wii U so much it's sure as hell get alot of attention.........I hope It does make a comeback so I can see how many people feel stupid after giving up on a Underated Console
@mkeezay22 Don't worry a lot first games are coming.
@Grayman51 I don't see why people have a problem, gearbox have said that they aren't setting an official release date for borderlands 3 until they've pretty much made it because they want to make sure the game is up to scratch at release rather than releasing a buggy game like borderlands 2, despite this the reddit borderlands community are fine with it and say they would rather wait for a refined game than get a buggy game earlier.
@Henninger I remeber I use to be scared as shit to play Resident Evil an Silent hill games and now when I look at I be like ts this what call hardcore....lol WTF
@baxwam I liked the 3DO!!
That is a laugh right?.
That would be Ed....I think.
@Mayleene @Kyrylo I do find it funny that everyone acts like they're going to have a million new games to play at launch yet the majority of PS4/Xbone titles are just prettier versions of current gen games and with no backwards compatablility, what are they going to do while waiting for new games? We always forget that ALL consoles during that first year or so, have little to no new exclusive titles. Guess there always that "cool" TV stuff on Xbone (sarcasm).
@Mayleene @endorbr You believe that Nintendo is going to catch lightning in a bottle twice? The Wii sales were a fluke because they caught an unusually broad market due to the advent of motion controls. A huge chunk of the demographic that bought a Wii are non-traditional gamers. They don't even classify as casual. They bought a Wii to play Wii Sports when they have friends over or to do Zumba fitness. They purhcased 2-3 games and thats it. They are not the kind of people that will buy a Wii U because they don't care about the "new" features that it offers. They aren't likely that it even exists or are among those that believe it is a controller add on for the Wii. They don't care about Mario or Zelda. Then you have the hardcore market that feel burned after the Wii and have no interest in purchasing what is seen as a technically inferior piece of equipment for next gen just to get a tablet controller and HD visuals. Which is why I say its a market confused product. It's designed for 8-18 year olds and wants to attract all age demographics. But the Nintendo 1st party games have been slow in releasing and as usual the 3rd party titles are not something to attract a purchase out of someone that doesn't already own a Wii U. And for the aging gamer that has lost interest in Nintendo exclusives it holds zero appeal. So I'm not saying its impossible that the Wii U will outsell the competition but its also unlikely this gen.
@mike9876543210 @93ChevyNut, Possibly but get the big picture although I prefer Sony over Microsoft and Sega vs All.(oldskool) Sony is 3 headed snake they had a vested interest in gamble in releasing th PS3 how they did and when they did Blue Ray Succeeded, HD DVD didn't so while they may have loss money initially they made it back and making a percentage off X1 and everybody else adoption of BR drives/Discs.
@UNCStriker88 And State of Decay 2 as well...then maybe I will consider buying an Xbox One...
@mike9876543210 @UNCStriker88 I think you're making a big assumption that GT6 is coming to PS4. There's no confirmation of that what so ever.
@mike9876543210 @Grayman51 Exactly! why rush games out when they are not ready. You have to ask yourself is this a money thing are they that desperate for the cash? You wouldn't sell an incomplete song on iTunes, so why put out games that are incomplete. Surely it's time we had an industry standard that forbids the release of unfinished games therefore stopping joe public having to pay extra.
