GS News Top 5 - Sony At A $1.3bn Loss; PC Games Outsell Console Games!
E.T. is found in the desert, H1Z1 releases zombie-riffic trailer, Sony struggles, and we get STAR WARS NEWS just in time for May the 4th!

Poor sony. Competition is too stiff on the TV side when facing samsung/LG, phones also having stiff competition from Samsung, apple, PC/laptop also not doing well against Apple and etc. Thankfully there's only Xbone on the microsoft competing with PS4. We all know how wii turned out recently.
It's not a case where Sony failed on their products (at least not in a massive way), but just having stiffer competition who does maybe 10% better, and having some terrible decisions. Well at least good news for us, PS4 has been receiving very good press and devs endorsements so I think PS5 will happen some 7-8 years later.
I've never understood why in non American "English" the letter Z gets pronouced as Zed. Isn't Z(zee) just as easy to say and what the letter actually is instead of saying a guys name.
What?! the original cast for Star Wars Ep7?! Must be a bridging thing because I don't see how this will draw new fans into the genre.
Great show as always Jess!
Hmmmm...I think I'll put SimCity in the hole or more like EA they really just don't care about their customers. :P
Knack isn't bad, grant it I haven't completed it thanks to it's release overlapping my journey to paragon 100 on D3.
If a game comes on out for PC and Console, for example Skyrim. Im getting it for PC because mods extends the life of the game. Im still playing Skyrim, if I had that game on a console it would be either be sold by now or collecting dust. Look at Top 5 skyrims mods of the week show proof of how PC version of the games are just better. Graphics and Gameplay overhaul mods. You could just do more with PC version of the game.
HAHAH good one Jess LOL....
well I would bury Dikatana in that hole, since throwing it into the sun is not an option for now, and maybe dukeN forever
Regarding PC gaming - if I could walk into a store, plop down 400 - 500 dollars on a computer and be GUARANTEED 5 - 10 years of playing any game on the market without having to deal with the headache and extra cost of upgrading it - Then, and only then, would I be interested in PC gaming. Until then I'll be sticking with consoles.
Because most consumers share this idea with me of simple convenience, PCs will never have that mass market appeal ( for gaming ) in their current state. If that changes I would certainly welcome it, as I'm not refusing to PC game out of malice or blind fanboy loyalty.
Apologies for the rant/small novel.
They loose money every time a new system releases... So Does MS... I'm actually surprised it's not more...
They won't turn a profit for at least a year... it's always been that way. After research, and development, and supply... it's a guaranteed loss for both companies... it's the software and accessories they bank on...
of course pc games outsell console games there is 250 shitty indie pc games a day coming out, every kid with access to unity thinks there a dev now and people like steam users pick up every game they can for 2 or 3 bucks. it is not hard to see the logic behind it
I paid 250 dollar for 50 AAA titles on pc. (Mass effect 1,2,3 - Anno 2070, Ass crd 1,2, awesomenauts, borderlands 2, Crysis I II III, Darksiders I, II, Dirt II, Skyrim, Fallout 3, FTL, GTA IV, half life 2, Hitman absolution, Max payne 3, etc. etc. etc.
On console you would have paid at least a 1000...
Also on pc you get the better version of all those games, better graphics, mods everything!
Pc games outsell console games, cool. I wonder if it's something to do with the price of new ps4 and xbox games, £50 for one new game... f**kin' scandalous and daylight robbery.
@spenta I could say the same as to why most of the world uses the Metric system as opposed to the Imperial system that the US still uses? Just because America does something one way, doesn't mean it's right.
@spenta only zee in US...the rest of the world its zed. :P
"just as easy to say"
You guys have changed the pronounciation from the original, Shakespeare's English just as you've done with a lot of words, and the reason why it seems strange otherwise to you is because you've heard it all your life. That's really all there is to it. I don't make a fuss every time I hear the letter "zeee", but to me it will always sound off, it's all a matter of perspective.
(With regards to quotation marks utilised for sarcasm, though, it would be more correct to say: Original English and American "English".)
@XCyberForceX that won't fix the problem, you need to put the creditor in the hole, bury them and then you can forget about it lol
@enoslives7Said a giant A-hole, apparently looking to be penetrated.
@shiss27 Knack is fucking crap, sir.
@vadagar1 What is so funny? That they make more money even you pirated the games?
@nixxin25 500$ once every 5 years for a console is already a myth, people are being milked via online subs fees and higher initial game cost due to licensing. Eventually you're paying more for a console in the long run unless you buy one single-player game every year.
@nixxin25 Actually most don't, at least those above the age of 18 (yes I know that's a guess, but it's true for all the gamers I know in my area, so that pretty much makes it a world wide opinion). Most real gamers I know don't go plop down money for a crap premade pc. We build our own. I've been building my own for many years now and my latest gaming machine was just slightly over $500 but it will keep me going for another 3 years easy and have already been going for 2.
My daughter plays on a machine I bought for $125 and it runs everything in my library. She's currently playing the new Thief game and it runs like a champ. So sorry but if you take a little time to learn how to put a pc together ( not real hard) you can put in what you want and save good money to boot, or take your time on Craigs list and you'll find a screaming deal. Patience is the key.
@nixxin25 Kinda depends if you already bought a nice PC recently(like me) and use it for many, many other uses than gaming. Hardly anyone buys a Desktop PC just for gaming but almost everyone buys game console, just for gaming. So if I can buy a good video card for 300 bucks or less that lasts me 4 or 5 years and have free online also, then that's a better deal for me personally. But if you don't care to do PC type stuff then yes, a console would be a better deal if the best graphics are not a concern.
@TheExxorcist they didn't lose 1 billion dollars on ps4 they lost it because of everything else not doing well. ps4 is the only bright spot they have right now and I don't expect them to keep up with the xbox ready to make a push.
@itsprobablyron Get more enjoyment out of a $3 shitty indie pc game anyways. What's the alternative.. call of doody?
@wa128 Nope, because you can get all of those used now and if you paid full price for them there is something wrong. Oh yea and you can trade all of those games in to... Oh that's right, because they are digital and worthless.
Not always. Sometimes the PC version was just "thrown together" according to some professional reviewers.
@wa128 and the best version of all the halo games too right.
@wa128 You are sooooooo right. Paying 1000$ for console versions of games (that barely run at 1080p) is scandalous.
What do you expect from next gen consoles that have trouble running @HD rez when you have UHD TV and monitors (expensive right now but their prices are dropping).
The current versions of Xbox 1 and PS 4 wont last 2 more years :)
@wa128 not always better but I did something similar only my pc hauls was bioshock 1 & 2, far cry, the witcher 1 & 2, max Payne 3, torchlight 1 & 2, and crysis 1 and 2. When did steam get crysis 3 isn't that only on origin?
@Johny_47 If that translates to about $60US then I suspect it's all the same. I see PC titles selling for the same $60 price tag as the console versions. Still in many cases their way over priced.
@Scarshi They should because that is going to make them lose money as well. No way are console gamers going to take to a headset that "replaces" a TV which already works and they own and they can't use in groups.
It will be a niche product at best. Sony should get out now while they still can.
@LJNkickstarter Actually when you put it like that, it is kinda funny. :)
@wallydog63 @nixxin25 Wait, how do most of the gamers in your area make a world wide opinion? Unless your area covers 75% of the land on Earth I see that as a pretty selfish claim. I actually work in the industry and nixxin25 is right. We get annual ESA reports and I will tell you that every year, console games outsell P.C. 10-1 hands down, also the overhead given to developers is 95% used on console game development and P.C. pretty much gets what is left. The proof is in the pudding here, two big games that got released in the past 6 months were both cross platform, both had previous titles which were also cross platform, yet they have delayed releases, one almost by a year? (I am talking about GTA V and DS2) If P.C. was so superior as all claim it to be how come they couldn't have a version of these games ready at the same time as the console launch? The demand is higher for console, in "my area" people want convenience and all the people who do have a P.C. have at least one or two consoles and play on them more because they hate dealing with drivers and having to tweak games just to play them. But in no way am I going to constitute their opinions as "world-wide"
It's not supposed to just replace ur tv, and I think it's a great idea, much will depend on content.
@xStarFox1987 Don't know about ds 2 but GTA V is completely obvious, money. Rockstar knows everyone is gonna buy it for consoles, they also know many people will buy a second copy for PC for mods alone. They've done this for every GTA so its no surprise they're doing it again. You seem to be under the impression that they couldn't make the date, while that may happen sometimes its definitely not the case here. They know exactly what they're doing and its a smart business move even if it does piss a lot of people off.
@xStarFox1987 If your in the business that would explain why the business is hurting so bad. Obviously you are too stupid to see I was kidding with that comment, but your too buthurt to see that. If you were really in the business you would know that 95% of computer gaming is digital download which your reports know nothing about. So yeah when your dealing with 5%, consoles will look good.
When your talking about Rockstar, it's well known they're pro console. They haven't done shit for pc in quite a while (Max Payne 3 sucked so I wont even talk about it). Why aren't you talking about Blizzard or valve who could buy Rockstar if they really wanted it. Or why is Rockstar laying off people if they're doing so stunningly well.
If console are so almighty powerful, why are the articles coming out to say otherwise. Why have console sales dropped 40% in the last year? Why are pc sales up as are their component parts?
Glad your eating pudding cause I'm eating steak. Enjoy.
P.s. The people you must know are incredibly stupid because updating drivers is pretty much automated now and takes practically no time at all. Tweeking games takes 30 seconds at most. Yeah, stupid or lazy. Take your pick.
@Scarshi CD's lol son nothing can replace the sweet sound of vinyl!
Exactly. It's a gimmick with potential. A while back mp3 was a gimmick that surely wouldn't replace physical cd's.
It didn't completely but it was accepted mainstream as a practical alternative for mobile devices, that also improved with time. VR is not a replacement, it's a potential enhancement.
