GS News Top 5 - Foliage physics, equality for ALL games + GTA on PC in 2014?
GTA may well be heading for PC in 2014, Assassin’s Creed: IV is ready to dazzle you with foliage physics, David Cage wants YOU to give Beyond a chance and naming Pokémon is hard. Like, really hard. Apparently.

Every GTA game to date has come to PC. Rockstar usually drags their feet about it, but it happens. So GTA V will be on Steam within about a year. Being a PC gamer, I'm cool with waiting.
Besides, my gaming plate is running over these days. So I've got a backlog to burn through before hammering on GTA V anyway.
Reactive physics foliage! Its like the protagonist in Viking: Battle for Asgard easily jumping over fences!
Hey I found a fix to everything. If you have issues with this site, just empty out your browsing history, cookies, cache, page settings, all of that stuff from the "The beginning of time" in Chrome. I did it. Then I went back to the new Gamespot site and it works perfectly now.
WOW, this site isn't what it used to be, usually by now there would be hundreds of comments by Jess's fans alone. Its kinda sad.
Making fun of foliage physics is pretty lame to me. Devs have worked hard with trying to push the limits of making games look more realistic. Will this massively change the way the game is played, probably not. But I watched a demo on the new physics engine in AC4 and it made the environments beautiful. Ripping devs for game advancements, whether they're only visual seems a little pompous to me.
a Window into your living room. If you're ok with that then buy the 1980's vcr looking prism project viewing and listening device bone.
Pretty sure the advanced physics of foliage on AVIV will be wildly apparent in the PC version, too... Surely?...
Why don't they hold a competition for fans to name Pokemon. Or hire a bunch of zoologists that might have a better grasp on how things are named in the real world. Might make for some more interesting names since the ones in Pokemon and ridiculously lame.
The video isn't working for me. I use Linux and FireFox with Adblock. Will the problem be fixed soon?
Physics wise I think it would be really cool if BF4 had more environmental destruction. I know Arma 3's the go to destination for an actual simulator but I think it would be really cool if BF4 turned into a FPS version of World in Conflict. The Siege of Shanghai map would be considerably more epic if the entire map was a smoking crater by the end of each game with fuel-air bombs going off occasionally and everyone finding cover amidst mountains of rubble.
For a while there were certain people that refused to classify Minecraft as a "Game" because there was no "point"
Then they should stop making new Pokemon! There are enough already. Make new games, not new Pokemon.
My favourite game that is always accused of being a non-game is, without a shadow of doubt, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. To people who say it nothing but cutscenes, I call shenanigans! If you just speed run from checkpoint to checkpoint, or shoot your way through every level, the cinematics outweigh the gameplay- but if you take your time and figure out how to properly use the extremely sophisticated stealth mechanics, the game takes a lot longer and is far more satisfying. Also the story has everything long term Metal Gear fans (up to that point) could have asked for, no narrative stone is left unturned.
To name new Pokemon, switch to a language with a different root, then transliterate back to Japanese, then translate it to English. What could go wrong?
I know there's been a few online games that fail at release due to server problems and other nonsense.
Gamespot trying to join that club?
Fix da damn vids!
jesus christ the videos still don't work. are the programmers who are supposed to be fixing this problem on break or some crap?
Welp, this is embarrassing....
Something terrible has happened here. A 500 error happens when something on our end messes up. We are working as hard as we can to resolve the issue, and will hopefully have it fixed soon.
or feel free to explore the dungeon down below you, in order to find treasure!
@Harbinger_CR It will never end!
@greenaj Where are you from? You do realise one can joke about something without "ripping" it, or even "rip" something without disapproving? This show is full of Aussie/ British humour, and Americans often get precious over us being able to joke about things without the joke supporting an agenda.
@Retro_Squid Yeah i was like What?? when she didnt mention PC, especially seen as i have a second dedicated GPU for phys x alone.. So surely the plants moving effects are in PC. Have to be.
@Battle_Pants Got the same problem, sitting on a Mac atm and using firefox. Movies won't start at all for me.
@krev23 After playing BF4 on PS3 I played BF3 and I get more deaths why ? because the controls are really bad and there is no option to customize
@krev23 Dice have said they wanted to step away from that after the disappointing lack of full scale destruction in the transition from BC2 to BF3.
@pelvist haha lol if i remeber playing PC games that year we didnt have this either, we had pretty graphics but the rest of the games were the same
@Naylord It's an issue with AdBlock but it's being taken care of.
@at129907 There's only 68 new Pokemon, including the starters and their forms, legendaries, and new forms of old Pokemon. Overall, there's only around 55 "new" pokemon. X and Y mix in a lot of old Pokemon with old ones early on. Chances are, next gen won't have any new Pokemon at all.
@xonar2k3 I think they'll fix it
@xonar2k3 I can finally play videos with adblock on again. I think they're working on it.
@angry_cowtipper Well, we do have a "hashtag" but it doesn't seem to be something anybody was all that interested in using so I've weaned off of it.
@Leivve @krev23 Would have been an extra point of differentiation that could have been interesting. Perhaps they could hedge bets by making say 1/4 of the maps extremely highly destructible and see if the community responds. My views are somewhat coloured by ignorance though as I haven't played BC2. Did the destructibility work well there or do you mean to say they weren't able to make the destructibility as total as they liked even for BC2?
ACIV, not AVIV... The joys of touchscreen typing...
I'm a bit of an AMD fanboy, so no PhysX for me, but I've recently upgraded my motherboard and CPU for work/study... It just so happens that my machine is a fairly capable gaming rig, too.
Radeon HD 7970
i7 4770k CPU
@krev23 @Leivve No Bad company 2 had full destruction all (or at least most) of the buildings and bridges, ect. then people were really confused as to why there wasn't as much in BF3, and that was their reply.
My guess is EA had something to do with it, that amount of destruction cost a LOT to do. (I'm sure the one building in siege of Shanghai was a good chunk of all the money that went into it.)
