What you say (or ask) about the Fez developer (Phil Fish) isn't unreasonable.

It's probably good to remember that the guy is only in his mid-to-late 20s, though. (I can't easily find any concrete information about his age, but mid-to-late 20s is what most people speculate and seems to be reasonable. Let's say 27, just for the sake of this dialogue.)

People who are in their 20s might seem "grown up" to some people here. As for me, I'll turn 40 in five months from now -- and I can definitely remember that I didn't really "have my shit together", so to speak, when I was in my 20s. Neither did any of the other 20+ year-olds that I worked with. Some of them were more mature than others, for sure -- but 27 is still a relatively young age.

Locking yourself in a basement and developing video games for hours and hours doesn't promote strong social development. Neither does training for sports; no amount of kicking or throwing balls around is going to prevent anyone from being socially awkward or inept. That's why many professional athletes (even those in the 30s, or older) hire spokespeople and representatives.

As a fan of tennis, it always mystifies me why so many other fans expect the players (mostly 20-30 years old) to say all of the right things and have impeccable etiquette during their post-match press conferences. At a certain level of success, they become viable options for corporate sponsorships and must learn how to speak and act properly in order to retain those sponsorships. You may recall that even popular athletes like Tiger Woods and Michael Vick (American football) lost many sponsors (and the money that came with those sponsorships) due to their behavioral issues. Tiger was in his mid-30s; Vick was 27.

Likewise, Lindsay Lohan is currently 27 years old; so is Amanda Bynes. Tom Cruise was in his 40s when he jumped on Oprah's couch, and Don Mattrick is 49 right now. "Erm... uh... Yeah!" *clap clap clap*

I'm not defending the behavior of any of the people I've named. All I'm saying is that people screw up, regardless of their ages -- and people in their 20s are certainly no exception.

Simply put: Life is a series of fucking up and learning from your mistakes; there's no age when the learning stops. Game developers are no exception.
