GS News - Sexually-explicit Vita game censored; Does Tomb Raider perform better on PS4?

A sexy Japanese card game for Vita has been censored for the West, The Witcher 3 is apparently almost maxing out Xbox One and PS4 power, and why have Square Enix only confirmed the frame rate for the PS4 version of Tomb Raider?

I couldn't really care less about a Vita card game, sex or no sex, but I'm still disappointed in principle that we continue to take this puritanical approach to sex in the west, and especially as it concerns video games. Can't we all just grow up?

It mystifies me why the west feels the need to censor sexuality yet has no problem with gratuitous amounts of violence in video games.

you know tomb raider is played out game to me. and it's one that i don't like nor  care for. so this to me is not important.

I don't support censorship. I'll just import the japanese version. Shame Vita finally gets something for its target audience, yet still feels it needs to censor everything like they did with Disgeae 4 on ps3.

Witcher 3 is leading by example. I have no doubt it will kick Dragon Age 3's ass pretty hard. Or that EA will at least mysteriously delay its game if it sees Witcher 3 having more to offer in terms of quality and gameplay than they ever hope to deliver. Not that EA won't take shortcuts no doubt to find ways to make the game unappealing somehow. They have a special knack for messing up their own games.

60$ for the same game only it's the nex gen consoles REALLY. Why not 30$ for the game. Just have to wait for a price drop.

Frames are important to enjoy games with fluidity

XB1 users don't give a damn.  We already know that the PS4 has better specs.  If we were graphics whores, we would have gotten PCs.

yea and now PC is gonna suffer cause of you goddamn console bitches! piss off or throw down the coin and get a gaming rig!

Even Geralt's chainmail will fuck up my PC.

Tomb Raider. I don't really care. Even my PC can't do 1080 and 60fps. I played Witcher 2 in 720p and about 40 fps and I loved ever moment of it. And that was on a 15 inch laptop screen. If it really mattered that much PC would be the go to system for developers and gamers alike and that just isn't true any more.

That Vita game isn't a problem for me I already do that on the bus. And I don't even own a Vita!

Next gen consoles are just 3 months old and developers are already hitting their hardware limits and it's going to be about 9 years until PS5 / XB2 are released.  Hmmm.

@kane6911 It may not be important from a game buying perspective, but it is important from a console buying perspective. One would wonder why is it running slow on Xb1 and not ps4? why is CoD on 1080p on ps4 and not on xb1?

@GezForce

It's not that simple. The PS4 version is better.. only if you like stutter. The PS4 version averages well below 60fps and fluctuates a lot more than the XB1 version, swinging all the way between 33fps and 60fps.

And it averages below 60 most of the time. That is going to mean that the game stutters most of the time.

I would greatly prefer a solid 60fps over a solid 30fps, but I would also prefer a solid 30fps over a stuttery variable framerate, even if it averages higher.

The hierarchy goes like this: solid 60fps > solid 30fps > juddery uncapped framerate averaging in the 40s or 50s > juddery uncapped framerate with frequent drops into the low teens.

The XB1 version is capped at 30fps and doesn't drop below that most of the time. On the other hand the PS4 version spends most of its time fluctuating around well below 60fps.

@GezForceForza 60fps, NBA 2K14 60fps, Kinect Sports Rivals 60fps, etc.., etc.. $100 more for Kinect.

@Shielder7LOL!! Watching that video of that was hilarious. This is what Japan devs do all day. Whack off on their PSVitas.

@coaltangoNo one cared about FPS last gen or the generation before that. Now all of a sudden it's important. Don't make me laugh.

@StormyJoe If this is the case, I am genuinely curious, on why XBO owners, purchased XBO in the first place?

Brand loyalty? the look of the console? the Kinect? it was the only thing available at the retailer? a gift?

I was an XBox 360 owner because of its controller. Simple. The PS3 controller was abomination compared to the 360 controller (personal opinion). This time around, the PS4 has the XBO beat in EVERY single category. I own both the PS4 and XBO (a gift), and 90% of my gaming and entertainment is done on the PS4.

@nameapricePC only suffer from childish people like you with the retarded idea of feeling superior to others because of the machine they play.

Get back to real life and have your priorities straight "master race"

horizonwriter
horizonwriter

@nameaprice Why would PC suffer? It's not like they had to drastically alter the product for current gen and the series is primarily a PC driven one. I'm pretty sure the game will be pretty damn phenomenal on PC.

horizonwriter

For the most part yep. I wouldn't let it affect your choice in consoles though. Weigh the exclusives (those released and potential one in the future). That's where the meat of the platform lies.

@cratecruncherThey aren't. They said the same thing about the PS3 & XBox 360 last generation. Then 3-4 years later we got games like Gears 3, Uncharted 2, Forza 4, Demon's Souls, TLOU etc... that blew the launch titles away.

@cratecruncher Means they can spend their down time designing better gameplay ,writing awesome stories and creating characters.

@jcknapier711 @Squampy  Since always. Seriously, are you 13? Censorship of nudity and sex in games, at least in the U.S., has been a thing for quite some time. Games get a much harder time for any kind of sexual content than film or television.

Did you not watch the video? It's about exactly what we're discussing, the censorship of sexually explicit content in video games. This is just the latest in a long line. The Witcher, Fahrenheit, plenty of games have been neutered (for relatively mild content) in being shipped to the U.S. because of our nation's phobia of sexuality.

@SipahSalar @kane6911 I've played the Ps4 & was very unimpressed with it's 20-30 second load screens, cheap plastic feel to it's old controller, & still crappy online service.  More like a Ps3.1 than a Ps4!

@kalipekona @GezForce  you're wrong.

PS4 :Lowest Frame-Rate 33fps
PS4 :Highest Frame-Rate 60fps
PS4 :Average Frame-Rate 50.98fps
xone :Lowest Frame-Rate 24fps
xone :Highest Frame-Rate 30fps
xone :Average Frame-Rate 29.84fps

@g0ldenpr0pet Getting both. Got the XOne first due to availability in stock. So there you go, my grain on salt.
For a lot of people is just because of past game policies that made the 360 a machine with a good library, you create loyalty with that and it's a fair decision.
And, of course, you ahve the fanboys with a misguided loyalty and/or a superiority complex, but that's only coming from the immature people, so nevermind then.

@g0ldenpr0pet@StormyJoeExclusives. The controller is still awesome. Still like using Kinect, especially for "snap" applications. The UI needs am overhaul on both XB1 and PS4.

@g0ldenpr0pet @StormyJoe i bought xbox one because of how good xbox live  is and all the entertainment it offers. The Xbox One controller feels alot better than the ps4 controller. And also the most important thing is the exclusives that are coming to the xbox one!

cratecruncher

@horizonwriter@nameaprice Over time engine developers have to accommodate the lowest spec devices when making cross-platform games.  Of the three devices which do you think will be held back?  My current gen pc was built mid-spec over 5 years ago and plays the latest AAA games on highest settings and I haven't done squat for upgrades.  Ten years ago I was plugging ram and gpu's in every 2 or 3 years.

cratecruncher
cratecruncher

@blackace@cratecruncher Last gen hardware was clearly more advanced for the period.  This cycle the hardware is equal to a 3 year old pc.  With 4k coming this could be the shortest generation yet.

youre_a_sheep
youre_a_sheep

@Dannystaples14@cratecruncherI doubt it's really true that the hardware is already being maximized, as that's never happened nearly so early before, but you make a great point that time and energy spent making everything super pretty could be better used elsewhere.

@Tommi88 @g0ldenpr0pet @StormyJoe i have both and while i agree with the xbl statement i call bs in the controller...the ds4 is prefect.. that's the only way i can describe.. i love my xbox one but the ps4 got it spec and controller wise...outside of the battery life i mean
