GS News - PS4 outselling Xbox One in UK + 2013 games were bad?!
The UK reports GTA V as the highest selling 2013 game and the PS4 outsells the Xbox One, Metacritic says 2013 games had the lowest number of last generations 90+ scores by year, and Blizzard wants to know if you'd buy a level 90 WoW character.

HA! PC had the best rated exclusives! I already knew the console peasants were lying every time they claimed their consoles had the best exclusives and PC had none. This confirms it.
I wouldn't pay for a level 90 upgrade at all. Partly because microtransactions are like cancer, if you give them stuff they will grow and then throw out cells and spread all over the body. If you cut off their supply they will wither and die, unfortunately I am one guy and there are plenty of idiots who will and do give them money.
Also because the climb in levels is the only real reason I play MMOs (including WoW on occasion) at all. Skipping that is just pointless.
I definitely agree with the "time poor players should steer clear of WOW" sentiment. I work at a University and its endearing to watch upperclass Engineering students come to the realization that they can no longer spend 60+ hours a week on MMOs and still expect to graduate. Its almost like a coming of age thing now.
Oh, and Happy New Year to Jess and all the other commenters.
I expected PS4 to sell more because it costs 100$ less. The Wii outsold both Xbox 360 and PS3 by a landslide it's price being one of the main reasons.
I took a break from the PC for almost 8 months & played the ps3. Ive bought a PS4 controller for my laptop & caught a bunch of Steam Holiday sales, WOW.... going to be a while before I go to the next gen Console.
Good to see you Jess! Hope Seb shared his SPF60 with you... Good energy today, the break seems to have done you well. :)
Personally, I'm happy to see that X1/PS4 sales are still pretty close in numbers. I've always been an advocate for hoping that they both succeed lest the "winning" company decide they can start upping prices.
2013 offerings really did seem to be a bit meager... I'm hoping the 2014 crop comes to fruition...
IMO (Obviously, this is the internet after all) 3ds had the most great games in 2013, followed by the PC...I barely touched the PS3 or 360 this year
I thought games were great from most platforms for 2013. I'm still enjoying the back catalog of games I haven't got to before I move on to "newer" pastures. A strange observation, on black Thursday and yesterday I went to three different stores that all had xbox 1's and not one ps4. Just an observation in my town.
Not a fan of people paying to max their characters, getting feel for the game comes mostly from leveling, having maxed character ready with bunch of skills, the average gamer won't get the grasp off, this will make PUGing more painful then ever. Fortunately, I'm not playing anymore, my hair would turn grey if I was.
Console with favorite launches this year: WiiU with Wind Waker HD and Super Mario 3D World. Oh yeah.
I'd take that WoW microtransaction if there was also a related purchase that would allow me to instantly kill an "instant lvl 90" character on site with unlimited uses and a 1hr cooldown. Such scum must be scrubbed from the servers.
If you want to play GOTYs, you need to buy consoles, that's a fact.
And the only numbers that matters are from U.S., the rest are seconday markets without relevance.
Man i cant get over how hideous the x1 looks!! Its quite apparent that microsoft really didnt bother with aesthetics.
In comparison to the ps4, the x1 looks like a chunky set top box from a decade ago.
PC was my best platform by far, but I've been gaming on PC for a very long time and despite owning many consoles, never really get into them much. PC being an open platform will always beat consoles in terms of sheer numbers of games and variety.
The entire year so far has been devoid of GS News. What gives? I have been waiting all year long and only now there's a new episode? You'd think that there would be more than one episode released in 2014. It's a year.
Hehe. Word play for the win. Welcome back Jess, I hope your holidays went well.
I hope 2014 will be a much better year for PC gaming than last year. It wasn't that satisfying and I decided to replay some older games instead.
My AC playthrough was pretty epic (from part 1 to 4 in 6 weeks with 95%+ in every game)..... :)
Good to have you back Jess!
I think those Metacritic scores may be a little misleading given that there were less games out this year in general with the run up to the new consoles. The ones that were released were fantastic for the most part regardless.
The low average scores come a lot from all the crappy indie games. I wish they would have died off before infecting the new consoles with their mediocrity.
@ChiefFreeman Not everyone thinks only supermodels and actresses are hot. You do realize that the average person actually looks good, right?
@amdreallyfast Make that without any cooldowns and I'm subbing again.
@Diegoctba thats a 100% american (US) thinking....fuckin patriot....every numbers count from anywhere
@Diegoctba Not really. PC had a good selection this year too.
How are the numbers not relevant in the UK? It might not be relevant to you but it can be for others.
I see what you did there...
EU4 will keep me busy until at least 2015, strange how it was missing form GOTY list on here...guess gamespot thinks a free2play MOBA and some crappy indie games were better they should hire somebody who knows what PC gaming is
@sol_invictus55 Well consider that lots of indie games get made, and it's booming now. More games is most likely going to lead to more crappy games.
I do believe there is a bit of bull/hype creeping in, as indies are very "trendy" now, but still lots of them are good games, and some of them are at least very unique even if you or I didn't personally like them.
Seriously, just look at the best games on Pc this year: http://www.metacritic.com/feature/best-video-games-of-2013?page=2
I wanted to ignore this statement but I can't. You obviously either haven't played many indie titles or you just like shooting stuff. Some of the best rated games this year were indie titles and since they are willing to take risks we have fantastic games like gone home or stanley parable just to name two high scoring non-shooter games
@Rooten no it's an ignorant statement from someone who happens to be american.
I'm american myself and I don't know anyone that close minded.
@sol_invictus55 I'm not a big fan of Mobas but I still have to play EU 4. I played the demo but I didn't find the time to get really into it. Maybe I'll replay the games of 2013 in 2014, who knows...... :D
Yeah Gone Home was crap, thats why its average user score on meta is a 5 and notice how only 1% of Gamespot users voted for it for GOTY. Only reason gamespot gave it a 9.5 is because its about a homosexual. Yes there were a couple good ones but 90% are crap
@uglypinkmoose good ;)
@sol_invictus55 well you might think it's crap but it just revived a dying genre maybe not for you but for many people who have played these type of games before. But I do have to agree with you that most are crap! I think its because the guys aren't pros and they do not have experience. But the better indie titles that were released were unique in their own way, some actually remember the industry that games aren't based on graphics only but games were built on top of Gameplay and Story at first. I am talking about Brothers - A tale of two sons of course. Remember what CryTek CEO told that graphics drives 60% of a game -_-
