GS News - PS4 Last of Us is 60fps; Nintendo Doesn’t Care About Being ‘Cool’
Nintendo says they don’t compare their games to others, Naughty Dog teases Last of Us Remastered in 60fps and Steam passes 8 million concurrent users!
". . .and that's all the boring exposition out of the way. . ."
Jess is the most important part of the show--more important than the news. People are the most important asset.
I agree with Nintendo. They're just about fun. Not graphics, not specs, not even popularity. Just fun.
Maybe they'll get more sales. The generation of gaming is changing. More hardcore gamers. Kids around 5 years old and up are better on games like Call of Duty than adults. The type of games they have for Wii U is games you can download for free on iPad or android tablets. Just something basic like having a DVD player in Wii U would help. They should have like a survey from sales people about what customers say negative about it. They put a ghetto 32gb flash drive in there at least put 250. Bundle with a standard Wii motion controller.
Why is it that people seem to think TLOUS is such a great game? I mean yeah the story looks great and everything, but the gameplay seems linear (I haven't played the game, just guessing)...
Seriously who's idea was it to go the next video as soon as this one ends? Fire him.
More on topic -
I really want to play The Last of Us, but as a non-playstation owner i sadly can't,60 fps or lower. No plan to buy one at the moment either... but maybe some day. Or they could release it on PC? :(
Or, well, one day our super-computers will be strong enough to emulate ps4. One day. Probably.
I don't want to insult Nintendo fans now, but I really don't understand how their games can be fun to anyone, and yes I tried playing them...
When has Nitendo been cool? I've never been interested in their offerings and probably never will be.. Ugh, Mario..
In old PS2 days 60fps was something so obvious that nobody would even mention it. Today? Is it some kind of a joke? And while I can still see the point of mentioning it as a plus for a true new gen AAA game, I feel like being treated like some idiot when reading all over the news, twitters, etc. that a last gen game with higher res and some cosmetic changes will actually run in 60fps!!! Wow, seriously??
Sorry for that rant, I am a PS3 and PS4 owner myself and am really happy to see this game coming out on PS4, but after all the hype on how massively the current gen consoles are superior to the former ones, 10 times more powerful and what not, I just can't brain the sudden fascination with 60fps in already dated 1080p.
And, yes, I do realize that our expectations for at least 1080p/60fps in every title have been abruptly brought down, but this shouldn't make us acting like this.
Well I would certainly hope TLOU would be 60FPS on a whole new shiny Playstation, otherwise it's literally making money off the same exact thing from 2013. Oh well, it will be shinier too I guess? Yeah 2015 is when you wanna go next gen kids.
I really don't care what nintendo does, they are only making air because we are in a game draught for next gen. Come September, Nintendo will be at the back of our minds. till Zelda Wii releases December 2015. Nintendo is just doing their own thing, but I don't see how they get by. 3Ds is the only thing really keeping them a float.
I'm really not too fussed about 60 FPS for this kind of game. A rock solid 30 FPS would have sufficed. What I find odd is that we're less than a month away from this title launching, yet ND still haven't showed us any actual gameplay footage (just pre-rendered cutscenes). This tells me that either the game simply looks ok or that they are going to surprise us-big time- with the updated visuals.
I wasn't a believer of TLOU the first time around at 30fps in general to be honest. It was a great game but I don't get how people can worship it like they do. Materpiece haha yeah okay.
The story was great but the gameplay was pretty tedious. I mean just in terms of when you want to melee a runner from behind you have to walk as slow as physically possible but the runner walks faster than you need to move which means you normally end up fruitlessly chasing their backs, speed up even slightly they hear you and a clicker comes and rips your throat out if you haven't levelled up.
I just found it frustrating especially when you are trying to clear a room full of them, you get half way through make a mistake and suddenly all hell descends on you with a clicker one shotting you. Most of the time most encounters ended up going all gun ho COD style.
Then there were the ones where you actually managed to sneak through an area only to have the game go into one of those stupid waiting areas where the characters are busy doing something like opening a door for you while you have to stand there and defend yourselves from a massive wave of enemies. It was too restrictive and annoyed me because of it.
Its a remaster of a PS3 game. Of course they can make it sharper looking and 60fps. Now the real deal should be UC4. We known UC4 will have better graphics than the last of us. Lets see if naughty gods can keep their 60fps promise.
It is kinda sad, that 1080p 60fps is something to brag about, I expected this to be a standard this gen. It also frightens me that we reduce games to their graphical output numbers as a sign of quality. Every dev can make a 1080p 60fps game, but that does not mean it is good.
I quit playing Last of US when I got a Ps4. I knew the new version would come. This nice lady looks like graduate school prof in french lit.
@gf15hr Play the game then you tell us why it's such a great game. Watching someone else play isn't the same.
@gf15hr Maybe you should give the game a try instead of watching "Let's Plays."
@gf15hr The story and the progression is linear and while each scenario/encounter starts at point A and ends at point B there is quite some variety in how you get there.
@rupti Not to pour salt on a wound, but I'm playing Last of Us right now and it is excellent--story, plot, character development and gameplay. Once the PS3 becomes cheap on ebay with the new generation, you might want to pick it up.
@rupti Agreed. It's impossibly annoying.
@MustSeeMelons Nintendo used to be all there was back when I was a kid. Played their games for so many hours I couldn't keep track, way more when I was young than I do now. I just wish I could have that same feeling now as I did back then, when I first tried Zelda or Metroid, the games were amazing then because they were the first and were truly innovative. There was nothing like it at the time. All we get now are rehashes and the same old FPS games. I doubt that feeling of those days will ever come back. Maybe Morpheus will bring something new.
@93ChevyNut It must be cold , Jess never wears sleeves lol.
@93ChevyNut Australia is in the Southern Hemisphere, so they are currently in their Winter. So while it is probably not freezing it's probably a little colder than normal.
@rorytmeadows There isn't a problem with Nintendo at all. I say they should keep doing what they're doing, as it seems to work.
@billzihang I see it as a good thing. I'm sick and tired of people talking about Nintendo like they are the second coming. Nintendo games, appeal to Nintendo fans. There's nothing wrong with that. But Nintendo games AREN'T the end-all-be-all of gaming. Nintendo's got a market, and it's fans should be satisfied they aren't willing to change who they are to be cool. But please, no more about the "Everyone should play Nintendo games" nonsense.
They're not just upping the res & FPS. They have also stated that the: draw distance, textures, shadows & lighting have also been improved. I hope that they have done some additional surgery on the aliasing (I hate jaggies!) & texture filtering.
Crystal Dynamics did a great job with their Tomb Raider:DE & have set a high benchmark for this PS4 upgrades. I hope that ND can raise the bar even higher.
If I was casting for a young Catwoman JM would be my first port of call. There is so much mischief in those smiling eyes!
Great post! I find this very sad too! It's all about marketing these days. I want to read more stories pertaining to gameplay & innovations. Sadly, all we seem to be getting is the same games just getting a face lift each year & little else. Most gamers can be blamed for this trend as we just lap this crap up. Until we up our quality control, then publishers will continue to stick rather than twist. At least we have this growing indy contingency.
It's not just you mate! I chuckled at that bit myself. I think that they deliberately slowed down the image to give it that effect. They should also have added a green tint for maximum effect.
Well she has just come back from LA. I hope that she hasn't had cosmetic work done (I'm really not a fan of it & only consider it useful for if a poor lady has suffered with breast cancer) as she is just so fine & natural looking. She also comes as across as being too smart to be tempted by such superficial nonsense.
@crymore_noob oww I thought that I was the only one that notice it. ;)
@coolmanmick @gf15hr I disagree. The only reason why I got into Resonance of Fate was because I watched gameplay footage (no voice commentor) so I could get a real account for what the game had to offer. The game "resonated" with me. Unique gameplay, inspiring music (battle and overworld), that was enough for me to buy the game. I was not disappointed. The game played into my tastes very well based only what I had seen from footage. If you know yourself and know your tastes in games you should be able to look at and know if it fits the bill or not.
The argument of "buy and try" defeats the purpose having the ability to speculate upon inspection. I mean, what happens even if you do buy something and find you still don't like it? Are you somehow defective because everyone else found it enjoyable?
To compare, what do most of us do when a new movie comes out? We see a trailer. If in those 30 to 60 secs it does captivate our interest we don't watch it. Some people will force themselves to watch something even if they don't like it and in those cases one of two things happen: 1) They confirmed it sucks and hated it, wishing they'd never wasted money on the film 2) They try to justify redeemable qualities to make having to spend money on something not entirely enjoyable easier to swallow.
@mjonk2pc just sounds like you grew up that's all.
The thing is they aren't cartoons... Youre confusing art design for graphical fidelity. The only wii u game that is Cel shaded is wind waker HD.
It's like saying a game like L.A. Noire on 360 has better graphics than Mario Kart 8 just because it has mocapped faces even though the back grounds are fuzzy and some of the textures pixelated.
However, most wii u games are 720p
