Nintendo has a problem developing games. Zelda, Metroid, Mario Kart, where are those games at launch? You wanted my money, but you forgot to make the games for the console (with the console). Pointless.
HUGE crap with lots of wires omfg, who need this, u can play anything on pc or on android if u wana play outside
I have had this console for a few days now and I have only had a chance to play a couple of titles on it. Zombi U and of course Nintendo Land. Both titles integrate the tablet feature very well for the wii, but i want to play CoD and some of the other sports titles to see how this new tablet controller feels when the fur really flies. And many of you don't realize this, but the Wii U CAN compete with xbox and ps3. Nintendo has never been known as the technically advanced powerhouse during its life span, and I don't think it ever will. The NES was weaker than the Master System, but won the battle. The playstation went head to head with xbox and won the battle. and lets face it every single handheld nintendo console has destroyed any and everything that Sony has come up with. Strong graphics are meaningless people!!. PC gaming has had superior graphics for years, but their game sales numbers aren't even in the same hemisphere as console sales. Im enjoying my Wii U so far, but I am def looking out to see how the Wii U handles more core games. BTW i am the furthest thing from a fanboy for any company. I am just a gamer, and because I am a gamer I keep my options open to gaming even when it seems gimmicky. I skipped the Wii entirely because I felt like the gamecube let me down after a year or so of owning it and I was utterly tired of playing mario type games. But there is something different about the Wii U. Yes a lot of titles that came out during launch were ports from other consoles, but I like that the majority of those games are titles that many of us core gamers know and love. So you fanboys that are running around giving Nintendo the crown for this new system that doesn't even have an audio optical cable; please sit down somewhere and relax. And to you Nintendo haters; go and play the console first before you call it a gimmick. Im not going to knock any company for trying to be creative. that is all
Endorsing a gimmick, not like this hasn't been done before. Focus on making a good game not pushing a gimmick, please.
LOL @ all the fanboys saying this is the best controller ever. The system has been out less than a week, there is already shit titles and shovelware titles on the launch. I fail to see Nintendo bucking this trend, which is what ultimately has hampered their past 2 consoles...CRAP TITLES, KIDDIE GARBAGE, SHOVELWARE. Hardware wasn't the issue, so before you fanboys claim "this will dethrone" Sony and Microsoft...how about you wait longer than a week and see if anyone even bothers to make good games for it. There are some interesting concepts for a use of that controller, more than i thought when i originally saw it....but again, Hardware hasn't been Nintendo's issue, its the lack of QUALITY software to go with it. Already, i have my doubts when a launch titles is the same DS/3DS side scroll-er Mario.
No. I don't think this controller is fit to FPS games. Were do you look? To the pad or to the TV? How will both interact? Sorry Randy but you're wrong.
Please, you don't need all that to play Mario.
The wii U will never be known as a hardcore fps gaming machine, Nintendos fan base consists of middle aged mothers and anyone under 13.
The sheer mass of stupid looking bubble headed people games will help cement the wii U's reputation as stupid last gen console with a gamegear looking controller.
I mean come on what did they just strap a wii to a Gamegear?
After getting my Wii U this Sunday, the controller is great. I'll never go back to the old controllers.
I wonder if anybody else realised that this report said its the best control pad Nintendo has ever made for shooters NOT this is the greatest pad ever made for shooters.
Wii also had potential with its wiimote and nunchuck, But they failed horribly with that. So it will be a long road before it dislodges the PS3 and X360.
Definately a good controler that can really inovate gaming. This system is actually turning out to be pretty good. It's all up to the developers now
If all you have to do is point your finger on the touchpad to aim this the potential to be better than mouse and keyboard
I somewhat agree with it. If they make it very high resolution, and with a huge range, people can play in different rooms without screenpeeking. I hope they have a very wide range of games for the console, and I'm excited to see what it brings.
It's impossible to know if we agree with him until the system is released and we get a chance to play a fps on it. I do believe it holds a great deal of promise. I remain hopeful that Nintendo can satisfy its core gamers -something the wii just couldn't seem to do. Pls don't let us down Nintendo!
PC is and always has been the best way to play FPS. Why would anyone prefer to play on a Nintendo branded tablet?
Missleading... the dev said that this was the best controller that "NINTENDO HAS EVER MAD FOR FPS". Not that this is the best controller ever made for FPS. There is a difference
i bought a wii on launch played a few games, then stopped the xbox beat it for games/exclusives and imo the wii mote wasn't fully utilised even with the plus add on sensor, also they said the wii mote was the best thing for fps then...
so pardon me if i don't believe this, also i think it's too heavy/bulky to use for prolonged periods of gaming and so this will probably be the same thing again sounds and looks good but devs will be too lazy to actually make it more than a gimmick.
I mean i understand the whole hype and why Nintendo would do this, again they want to do something revolutionary and "NEW!" I just don't know how much i will love it i honestly don't know anyone who even knows what it is and wants it? I know because im a gamer but most people don't even understand it! I would like to try it out but i definitely won't be getting one more power to Nintendo i commend them it looks cool but after wasting money on a Wii to buy 4 games i even play...i won't be sinking money into another nintendo console!
I feel like I'm taking a big risk with WiiU because I hated the Wii after launch (yep my name is from the Wii's launch time). With WiiU I feel that Nintendo is catching up with the rest of the generation but what scares me the most is that Microsoft and Sony may just come out with something more powerful and amazing in another year or two. Regardless I'm taking the risk and I pre-ordered my system a month ago. I hope I don't regret it, but news like this makes me feel like I made a good choice (if a risk).
I have HUGE hands, and carpel tunnel syndrome, since I work with my hands so much, so I like the WiiU's controller because it is wider. The controller seems to put less strain on my wrists since you hands a spaced farther apart. It has become a real pain to use the xbox360 controller for me now, especially while laying semi- upward in bed like I do most often when playing games.
time for nintendo to take back the thrown... they only left to take a bathroom break :) move over last gen ps3 and red ring 360
What I am most looking for, is to play my games on the pad and not the TV.
Asides from the usual 'the tv is being used", I'd love to play a lenghy rpg while laying on my back on the sofa or bed.
As for the other stuff the gamepad brings, I'm not really sure. Inventory screen isn't a bad idea, but I'm not sure if I can take my eyes out of focus from the tv to the controller screen every 10 sec without getting a headache.
most of the current ways the controller will be used seems dull and actually counter effective.
but zombie U looks cool and makes some good uses.
I don't doubt that the Wii U will be a damn good console. Especially considering it addresses some of the issues that core gamers have been griping about. But, for me, it's too late. I'm now a PC gamer with rather retro tastes.
Nonetheless, I wish Nintendo the best.
due to the existence of the "Pro Controller", what he says doesnt add up. Also, everything is designed to compliment the companionship of its hardware. if the Wii U tablet was too bust trying to outdo other next gen hardware, it would fail to fit in with other Wii U components so its virutally impossible for it to be the "best" of all worlds, it can only simply be the best of Nintendo's world. Pitchford should stop being so amazed with the slightest of intricacies and stfu.
Still not sure about the Wii U controller, but I respect Randy Pitchford quite a bit. From everything I've seen/read/heard about him, he's a true gamer himself, and his perspective on this is definitely worth listening to IMO.
@thehawk3986 Um, you should check your facts again. PC sales are on a fast incline while consoles sales are on a fast decline.Anyways, I praise the Wii U for what they did. Consoles are slowly dying. They don't do anything a PC can't do anymore, (besides run exclusives and sports games) and they're price tags are still 59.99 and 69.99 respectively for most games, without ever having sales. Where as STEAM has sales every 3 to 4 months, dropping discounts of up to 75% on games less than a year old. Not to mention the rediculous pricing bundles you can get on sites like greenmangaming which are redeemable on steam as well. Why would anyone actually pay another 699 to get a new gen system that only has slightly better graphics than the last, that's completely ubsurd. At least nintendo knows that they'll get a share of the market because they're doing it differently. I think the other two consoles are going to have to come up with something themselves, because i doubt exclusives are going to keep them afloat for much longer. Not to mention mobile gaming is on the rise as well, which also takes away from console market. And quick fact, you can order a barebones computer on pc sites for about 799 and get very decent gaming parts, missing only an HD and a copy of windows and it'll play your games in much nicer detail than a console could. You think the next gen system will last as long as these did? I highely doubt it. And it's much cheaper to upgrade pc parts nowadays than it ever was which again make the prospect of owning a pc much better than paying for a console which eventually goes obsolete.(I won't even mention how my ps3 won't play a lot of my ps1 and 2 games, so money tossed away from years gone past)
To add to this comment id like to say to those comparing the wii U to the ps3 and xbox360 that the wii U cannot cope with the kind of graphics that the xbox and ps3 can. Plus given that next year there will be a new generation of consoles on the market with far superior graphics just leaves the wii U behind this gen, albeit slightly in some areas but far far away from what Sony and Microsoft will push out next year.
No doubt Nintendo know this and thats why they rushed release before Sony and Microsoft.
To be honest Nintendo would be better off playing to it's current fans instead of going head to head with Microsoft and Sony for the hardcore gamers, because i would hate to see the end of Nintendo for nostalgic reasons.
I would rather my children play Mario games on Nintendo along with all the other silly wii games, than see them playing Grand theft auto on my Xbox.
My point is Nintendo is loved by parents and first choice for most when their child asks for a console as its known as a children's computer and no controller will change that, but that does not mean its a bad thing, its just a fact.
xbox360 and ps3 fanboys i got a box of Kleenex so you can wipe the snot Bubbles frum your nose LOL ;-)
@KJsmashdude i totally agree.
@Ghost-11- Well said.
The hardcore gamers are PC gamers and Nintendo going after the FPS players well... they are simply going to fail.
Also these graphics were bettered by the PC 7 maybe more years ago
@Ghost-11- Don't knock it til you try it buddy!
No offense, but if 3.5 lbs is too heavy for you then you really need to get out and exercise. I feared it may have been bulky but having tried it a few times now playing the Rayman Legends demo I found it to be light, sturdy, and quite well balanced. (the large corde attached to the back to keep ppl from stealing it did tug on it a bit but this obviously won't be an issue when playing your own.)
As far as your "gimmick" comment, that is a word thrown out over and over but the controller has already been put to good use in games like Madden 13 and Zombie U. By the looks of it, if you don't like ipad like controllers then you will have a hard time enjoying xbox 720 and ps4 both. Between Microsoft's smart glass and Sony's research into their own tablet controller it looks like they are here to stay.
Now borderland 2 officials is vouching for this controller. Thats gotta mean for something. But your right about the Wii remotes, they could've done better. The problem was even after the motion plus upgrade, not many games supported the motion plus technology which was a let down. But if you think about it now, all the wii remotes are plus and all future titles will have motion plus technology implemented. It should of been liike that from the start. But I can see people having a let better experience with the motion controllers on the Wii U. As for the gamepad, there isn't really anything to think about here. Its a controller like any other controller out there like the ps3/xbox , but just with a touch screen in the middle. That can only mean better, because technically you have extra buttons for fps and other games. And other things for example what zombiu is doing, it seems pretty cool.
Most Gamestops and Targets have Wii U displays up now with a demo of Rayman Legends. Should be out in most every major electronics retailer in a couple weeks. give it a try next time your near one of those locations to see for yourself if it's something you'd like.
I had my own doubts about it honestly but walked away very impressed. I even enjoyed the demo despite never having any interest in the rayman franchise in the past. Whatever your view on Nintendo or their wii u I personally feel it will be good for video games as a whole regardless of your console of choice.
@King_Wii I agree with you, thats probably why i am more skeptical of the whole Wii U! But i would like to play one its a cool concept for sure, but yes im just worried as well that something bigger and better will be released by Msoft or Sony. But who knows they may go in a completely different direction then you will be glad you bought one!
@TRAVISTOUCHD0WN The Red Ring of Death is an issue that has pissed me off to no end with the Xbox 360...I love Xbox 360 games but Microsoft made a huge blunder in how their system handles heat resulting in rrod....My 1st Xbox red ringed and I had to buy a 2nd one for no reason when i later discovered the first redring system was fixable, which infuriates me...hope they do better with the 720...as for WiiU..Ive played it at comic con and the controller is comfortable, Im interested to see the influx of new content on that system.
@nate1222 Wow that is word by word exactly how i feel right now. Are you my brain?
@Darkblade07 No my facts are correct. PC gaming is on the rise, but their greatest games don't outsell Exclusive titles on the consoles. I agree with a lot of what you said btw. There are a lot of benefits for pc gaming, but all those parts and pieces and extra peripherals that your talking about in order to upgrade you pc. The average consumer has no desire to A. do the research to find the right parts and pieces. B. spend $700 on a computer and still need to upgrade later on in order to play games at their MAX.The average consumer is lazy. HE/SHE just wants to buy an item hook it up and pay for the software. That is it. Most consumers have no idea what the specs are of their consoles sitting in their living rooms and have no want or need to know. And btw there are plenty of deals on PSN especially if you're a plus member, and Free games to boot. There is another large group out there that absolutely despise keyboard mouse gaming. I like gaming on my PC, but there is nothing like buying a console and setting it up in your living room or whatever and playing games on it all day long. Your right console gaming is on the decline and its not because everyone is just tired of gaming on the consoles or spending $60 bucks on a game. Its because there are so many ways to play games now and the current gen consoles are super old. People aren't excited about 360 and Ps3 any longer. Most of community is waiting on the next iteration from Sony and Micro. On black Friday alone PS3 sold something like half a billion consoles just in america.
As far as the Wii U goes, I really like the console so far. I know every one wants to dismiss it as just another gimmick. But there was a time when connecting a phone line to the back of your console and playing someone online was just a gimmick. Now its one of the biggest draws to console gaming in this country. So my point is this. (sorry for the long windedness) PC gaming has a lot of benefits, but most of the console gaming community has no idea what those benefits are. Console gaming will still be around and still get people to pay $600 - 700 on a new system, because we are used to it. Mobile gaming could be categorized as a gimmick, because essentially the iPad has single-handily changed mobile gaming, along with angry birds lol. But if the rise of mobile gaming is predicated on tablet devices then I doubt consoles have anything to fear in the long run. Tablets are the NEW gimmick right now. We will see how long they last. And i don;t know why paragraphs haven't been working for me either... smh
Honestly in the end, its all about the games. If you want to expereince Zelda, Mario, Pikmin, Metriod, Smash Bros, And Cool games like Sin and Punishment (which you will never find on the Sony and Microsfot) then you should get the Wii U regardless of what Sony and Mircosoft will bring. Because chances are, you'll get a much powerful system but you'll end up playing alot of action and fps games from them. The only system that will keep the jrpg/ fantasy games alive is Nintendo IMO. Thats the main reason im getting the Wii U.
If the Wii U can secure a great deal of sales by the time the next XBox/Playstation comes out (say around 10m), then it really won't matter what they come out with because developers aren't going to abandon a console that's 1) they're already familiar with and 2) it's the safer option since there's already an established user base.
If you want any proof of this, look at the PS2 and how inferior it was compared to the much more powerful Gamecube and XBox.
I had the exact same problem. My first 360 went red ring the first time I turned it on. Luckily I was able to exchange it for another one but I should have taken it as an ill omen. Not including that first one I had 3 other 360s go red ring of death and while the first go repaired I had to buy new consoles the last 2 times. I still love my 360 and ps3 but am excited for a change. The fact that it is Nintendo's first HD system has me even more pumped.
I agree it is all about the games. Wii in my opinion had a good collection of 1st party games. However it always lacked good 3rd party support which in my mind was one of it's biggest flaws. The thing that gives me confidence with WiiU is that 3rd parties have already jumped on board. I'm waiting for AC3 for WiiU even though it already launched.
This is definitely true. The Wii was a great idea with the motion controls but was never done right. I blame nintendo for the lack of planning. The Wii didn't have enough support for the system either. I believe thats becaues the Wii motions were lacking at the time and developer didnt see that it was right for hardcore games like Call of Duty. This is where the Wii U changes all that. The Wii U will revolutionize the Wii for what it was, and bring something new at the same time ( Gamepad and HD graphics). And farther giving you more options to play your games with the Wii Pro Controller. I can't see how developers can say no to this system. Esspecially, if the Wii U wil the userbase like the Wii had. Even when the ps4/xbox games out, the WIi will have a big head start and the developers won't abandon Nintendo so easily. I believe nintendo knows what they done wrong with the Wii. And it looks to me they are trying to change that.
