No thanks.I already have a XBOX360/PS3.The WiiU is just a XBOX360 with no HDD and no controller......WiiU sucks.

It's only $299 in the US? We have to pay £250 in the UK, which works out as $397. That's ridiculous. I didn't think the price seemed too bad but now I see how much less they're charging elsewhere it's completely unfair.

I find it comical that people are so unbelievably cheap these days. I barely scrape by, and I'm still getting my Wii U Deluxe Edition in three days.

If you don't want it, don't buy it. Don't like it? That's good for you. My choice to buy it is equally as valid as your choice to hate a console for whatever your reasons may be.

I'll enjoy my new games and interesting take on gaming with the new GamePad controller. If it sucks, well at least they came out with a Pro Controller this time around for people who are sick of "gimmicks".

I can't wait to see when Microsoft and Sony announce their next console and show off THEIR iteration of the "tablet" controller as well. All the MS and Sony fanboys will immediately be burning their fingers to bony little nubs defending them to the death.

Ahh... that's the internet for ya.

Ugh, $300 for 2005 technology. Gonna spend that money on a kindle fire HD instead.

Either the price will drop very soon or Nintendo will be following Sega.

No no, it's a terrible value. $300? I'm definitely going to wait for the $600+ Micro$oft or $ony system instead. With my $100+ yearly membership to their online network. No, getting access to Nintendo Network, getting a tablet controller, all of that stuff in this innovative new system, all for $300, that's a terrible price. Nintendo is a bunch of crooks.

Skyrim on Wii U??? Will save me the trouble of having to buy back a PS3 or 360 and I haven't played Skyrim yet! (I know this comment may get some negative reviews but I'm just expressing my opinion!)

the price is fine... its a fair price.. xbox/ps3 was $600 at a time.... plus a tablet controller  with Hd on the big screen. its stupid even trying to wait for a price drop...

The simple fact that most new tablets alone cost around $400 means that paying $300 is relatively cheap for a console AND tablet

How much did people think this would cost?

I have no idea whether it represents good value or not - nor will I until I'm using one, and wondering whether or not there was anything else I could've bought instead.

I'm fortunate to be earning enough money not to worry about the extra fifty quid here or there, so I'll be picking-up one on release day. I'm quietly optimistic.

@capper64 in EU it costs about 320€ so it's completely reasonable.

@LordWaffleKing Ironically your sarcastic statement is actually not sarcastic in reality. Gimmick /= innovation. The next gen won't cost that much, they've obviously learned their lesson with this gen's initial costs and PSN is free. And your beloved "tablet" controller is just a regular one with a touchscreen on it, it has no processing power of its own so it's not worth much. Yeah, 300$ isn't great considering you're getting just 8GB of storage on a console so you're gonna have to spend more on a large HDD.

@uncle-link Bethesda still can't get the DLC on PS3, I doubt they'll be bringing the game to a whole new console.

@beardrewz That "tablet" controller is just a regular one with a touchscreen on it, it has no processing power of its own so it's not worth much.  It's not a tablet controller, it's useless without the console.

@RhythmAndBlues Wish that was me but yeah, will definitely get one, basically costs what the wii was in my country when it was just released. I will probably have to save up a little first. But I think any game system is worth the money, hell it brings to my home my favourite pass time, gaming.

@Daian  @LordWaffleKing Oh boy, console flame war time. Woo hoo.

For what it's worth, the Wii U isn't overpriced in my opinion. We won't know whether the touchscreen is a gimmick or a worthwhile addition until some games designed specifically for that system come along down the road. For what it's worth, though, the tablet controller is quiet handy to have, especially when someone else is watching TV and you want to play a game.

I sincerely doubt that the next gen Sony and Microsoft consoles will be any less expensive than the Wii U. They're just now getting to the point where they're actually making money off of selling this generation of consoles, which is why they've been so hesitant to release new ones. It's pretty expensive to jam all of that stuff into a console, especially when Nintendo consistently manages to outsell it, and the Wii U will likely outsell the other two consoles at their launches as well(not trying to provoke a war here, but recent history and the Wii U's good sale numbers would suggest that it would be hard for Microsoft or Sony to catch Nintendo early on).

You're welcome to debate value all you want, although I don't really think it's possible to judge how good a console is until at least two or so years into its lifetime. The main complaints that were brought up against the 360, PS3, and Wii U were costs and memory space, and while both are important, the major thing that should be considered is the quality of games. If the Wii U manages to put out high quality versions of first part franchises such as Metroid, Zelda, 3D Mario, etc, as well as pick up at least a fraction of the third party support the other two consoles have, then it will be well worth the $350 or whatever to me. Nintendo's exclusives have always meant much more to me than either Sony's or Microsoft's, and if Nintendo moves forward with the third party support they have currently(even if it isn't a lot) while continuing to create excellent third party titles, I'll be satisfied.

@Daian  @beardrewz People keep talking about it like they're also getting an iPad with their console so it justifies the price. It's just a controller!
