GS News - Ex-WoW devs’ new MMO model, Xbox One + free game?
Microsoft may be bundling in a free game with the Xbox One, former WoW devs’ new MMO will be subscription based and Batman ditches GFWL!
I will take a sub based mmo over the F2P model anyday......P2P keeps the derps out more so then sub based.
Id rather pay a monthly fee for a BALANCED MMo. Most Free to play MMOS ARE NOT BALANCED they are PAY TO WIN. Also the fee keeps most of the drooling 10 year olds out of the game.
Fable Legends would be their only saving grace, but if they wanted to just move consoles and destroy Sony, then include a copy of CoD: Ghost with every Xbox One. I mean, if they wanted to attract the casuals and milk it, why not?
For 500 bucks? I mean I could buy a lot of games with 500 bucks. Paying 100 for Kinect when Sony comes with a PS Vita is rather a no brainer. MS saw that and figured to do the one thing everyone likes most: FREE GAMES.
Wanted to go off the wall stupid? Offer that world building game WITH Fables Legends for those more creative players out there that prefer the RPG Maker and Minecraft worlds and the overall RPG enthusiasts.
You lose sales in the short term, Microsoft, BUT you will lock yourself a place by giving people good deals for an otherwise FORCED addition of Kinect. We want GAMES we don't want you watching us fuck in our living rooms.
Far as MMOs go, I don't think people care for it anymore. Most have burnt out and moved on with their lives that used to play WoW. I still prefer the monthly payment plans, but when you try to mix in both and force it on the others who ARE paying, with bullshit 'OPTIONAL' stuff that SHOULD BE IN THE FUCKING GAME, then that's when I draw the line and say no.
I don't want another WoW but I will be playing Wildstar for a bit.
I remember those days where consoles had always a free game in the box, even if it was Alex Kidd on the Master System or Tetris on the Game Boy.Now they give a free game with the Xbox and that's a plus? Not giving a free game means that the console actually costs more cause you'll buy one for sure and on a console that is expensive already. They think we are that stupid to consider the free game as a bonus, they should give three games to make the console actually appealing.
And there are still MMOs with a monthly subscription out there?
I'd rather pay a small monthly fee upfront instead of being nickled and dimed to death. With that said all MMOs game disks / downloads should be free, i don't like paying twice.
I prefer a monthly fee because it tends to keep many of the annoying people out but $15 a month is too much. 5-10 would be more sensible after buying the game for full price (and probably future expansions too)
Monthly subscription fee? FUCK YOU
Like paying 50/60$ for a game isn't enough .... =_=
Greedy motherfuckers, I'm positive they're going to crash and take that back... there's no way they'll be able to sell anything with a monthly subscription fee...
This is the age of hacking and private servers, someone will surely make it free soon enough even if they won't
O I'll leave a comment.. down below, down under, up and around, on the otherside, back to the front and watch the fireworks. BAMF!
oh god that MMO game just made me throw up in my mouth....
pay monthly for it?!!!
I would not play it even if they PAY me to do it
I wouldn't mind anything other than Fifa bundled with it. Really hate football and have not played a game properly ever. The last one I ever played on purpose was Chelsea Football 98 or whatever it was called but that was only because you could level up the players.
Not only that if they give them away for free with the console the chances of selling it will be slim because everyone will already own it. Same with it being pointless to give it to my brother who isn't getting an Xbox One and would already have the game himself if he did buy one.
There needs to be a choice of two or three I think.
@JessMcDonell...Gesturing Jess :D..I double dare you to at least try to stand still while being filmed, you're a hoot :D
Are you crazy we do need a free game are all these suck butts sony fans I been battleing these dingbats since the ps3 been liars on how the ps3 can do over shadows with yellow ducks how ps3 was more powerful than the 360 since the beginning 360 have been transformed into a ultimate machine and you dingbats think I would not trust what microsoft can do with the xboxone all am I have to say to many playstation type people that post in here.were is my xbox fans letting these suckers get away with trashing the xbox come on
The PlayStation 4 seems to have led the popularity contest since the earliest polls appeared, and that has worked out well for Sony so far. However, Sony has remained relatively quiet lately; their biggest news? "PS4 TV" -- which didn't quite create a firestorm of buzz; the "PS4 + Vita" rumor seemed to comparatively generate more interest.
Microsoft has continually been in the news since their disastrous Xbox One reveal, "doing 180s" on a near-weekly basis. Unlike Sony, Microsoft has been making plenty of noise. Microsoft continues to keep the Xbox One in the news through well-timed and generally positive announcements (including this most recent "bundle with free third-party game" story), as if insisting that capturing social media territory is a vital part of their console warfare strategy.
This strategy seems to be working, but I'm not sure how much credit is owed to Microsoft's marketing division; naturally, the Xbox One had nowhere to go but up after its abysmal E3 reveal.
FIFA14? I don't play sports games and last driving game I played had a weapon called 'penetrator'.
I just don't like sports, it's fun to do in real life, but to play a videogame or even worse - whatch other people do it... it's just boring.
I'm really gonna laugh and trip over myself to find video footage of Gamescom when Microsoft announces the game that they will bundle with the XB1 and it's some shitty AA title. I can just see the collective groan from the audience now.
Why not have MS throw in a mouse and keyboard with the XB1?
The comparisons between the XB1 and PS4 are so similar. Inject new game play into console gaming. StarCraft, DOTA, and MMO’s have been institutionalized with PC gaming based upon past PC power and its peripherals.
PC shipments went down around 13.9% in Q1 of 2013. There’s a market to consume (domestic and international).
By doing that, you’re making the XB1 seem more like a game centric console.
I won’t be affected by MS mind tricks to tempt me to cancel my PS4 preorder. Just flat out make a better console. A $60 game that’s going to get old within a year doesn’t really compare to purchasing a console that you’ll have for half a decade.
i don't care for soccer so that title would be useless to me, and its probably digital anyway so you wont be able to turn around and sell it for cash for a better game... regardless, the price is still more than you'd pay for a PS4 and a game... or if you already have PS Plus subscription, youre already getting at least one free game right out of the gate, if you're interested in Drive Club anyway...
lol Micro$oft giving a free game. You know they are hurting for people to buy their console. Sucks for them. But I would put more money on the free game being Warframe instead of FIFA 14. Also the new MMO the Ex-WoW devs are making I imagine will go free to play quickly. Idk about any of you but I'm tired of all the tab-targeting and 1-2-3-4... etc etc button mashing. I'm ready for something more interactive and much more difficult than the cup cake MMO's that are being released today. Bring back the Everquest difficulty days back. =)
@cws3e That's the problem. They want to use all the payment methods. First buy the game at full price then a monthly fee and then microtransactions and expansions.
I don't mind a fee for the physical disc along with a sub but I don't think it's fair to have it at a full $60 price (or over 91 USD where I live)
Never have microtransactions for a game you pay full price for and has a monthly fee. It stinks of greed and will push customers far away and you'll end up losing money instead of making it.
That is the same thing DCUO tried to pull, along with lifetime subs that you had to pay for pre-launch, in some sort of desperate attempt to milk as much money out of fools before going F2P.
It was a game that looked interesting but I stayed away simply because of the greed radiating from the publishers.
Don't let this happen to Wildstar. It's a game that looks very very promising to me.
@SrebX You took the words right out of my mouth. Monthly subscription on top of an initial game price, PFFT! Why not charge a premium fee for VIPs. PLEEEAZE. Get bent and spread `em. The fisting will be epic. Something like Bibbing a la Supernatural but from the other end. LOL!
@Dannystaples14 If they gave it away for free with the console they wouldn't need to sell it, that bundle deal will be nosebleed lucrative. And what reason could you have to buy an X1 other than COD'n'Sports?
@puukusa if 'penetrator' was are a race, the one that comes (puns) first is the loser lol
@rawkstar007 no, you will hear the loud cheering and clapping... from the ms employees in the back.
@broly1800 Your analysis is so critical and unbiased, you should be a market analyst
@RoyaleWthCheese Yeah PC shipments went down. Grandparents PC shipments they are ...
@RoyaleWthCheese Instead of buying new PC's, more people are building their own systems these days.
@DJKrayz_basic The fact you called it Soccer and not Football means your not in Europe, and like she said people in North America may be getting a different game
@Maverick6585 well since Microsoft is making the deal for the Europe market it would make sense for the game to be Fifa 14 since soccer is big in Europe.
@jonny_dutch The controller (bar plug and play, that sucks), their proven track record of not getting hacked or crashing, they released a bad batch of 360s but yet still had the stones to stand up to their mistake and give everyone a free fix and a years warranty.
Halo was awesome, Gears was awesome, Dead Rising is awesome, Forza is awesome, and the only real games worth buying on either console at the moment are multi-platform so buying an Xbox One for the games is pretty logical overall.
Also on a side note if someone was interested in using their HD Kinect 2.0 for skype, or the TV for well TV, and the other media features they can do so. Overall in terms of things you can do with it Xbox One is ahead, the only real question is whether you want to use those things.
At least Microsoft had a go at change. Unlike the PS4 which is basically a more powerful PS3 at this point and what is worse it has dragged the Xbox One down into the same boring ass trench and so we are currently awaiting two consoles that are basically last generation consoles with more power.
The focus of my comments was gaining more of a market share in the console marketplace, but I’m more than happy to answer that question from a fact finding objective standpoint.
In terms of the deterioration of the PC marketplace, there
are wonderful articles on the Forbes/Bloom Business Week/or the Motley Fool. For instance: Forbes
7/12/2012 “Apple Holds Upper Hand in PC Decline”, Motley Fool 3/13/13 “Will PC
Sales Ever Stop Declining” (article on Mobile devices), Bloomberg Business week
July 23rd 2013 “What the Death of the PC Means for Microsoft” (market
watch video). A lot of people have stopped building or buying, they're just moving away from desktops.
People that are building PC’s at your college or in your
town have a minimal impact on the overall global marketplace. I will agree that
PC game builders are a niche market in the overall PC marketplace.
But that didn't stop NVidia Corp falling short of
estimates- Aug. 9th 2013 Bloomberg Business Week.
Commodore 64 owner since the early 80’s.
@thermalmotion @RoyaleWthCheese fewer people, non gamers in general, are even buying pcs. building one is easy... once youve done the first one but its still time consuming and things break so easily... hdds doa, cpu almost melted, fan chopped into its own wiring. and still no guarantee that it will run properly when you need it to... go, go, go, bsod.
@nodq24 Have to agree FIFA would make much more sense of course for the European market. BTW it's FOOTBALL and not soccer :p
o_O Now the DoA bit happens (especially with motherboards) but other than that I don't know what you've been doing xD
