GS News - 3 million Xbox Ones sold in 2013 + $1,899 Steam Machine!
Xbox Ones and DayZ copies sell big, Nvidia has a super-powered mobile chip, and just how much will a Steam Machine set you back?
by Jess McDonell on
waste of money and its running only steam game. better buy a real pc no? how they can compete with console at this price? they wont. this machine wont survived like the console 8 years... because game on pc always try to make you buy high end technology like new screen with g-synch and new graphic cards.
steam box's are nice, seen the ones from Cyberpower PC and Alienware and both looks awesome... but at the stupid prices they'll be sold at, the prices are not awesome, and for most gamers, the steam box is just not a great investment when you can still build your own machine thats more powerfull for far less....
Its not meant to compete with the xbone or PS4, even though its obvious that it is... If people are too lazy to put a desktop machine in your living room then you really deserve to be ripped off... I like the idea and want it to succeed but from what I've seen so far, just feel like their grossly overpriced PC box's that dont offer the same power as a regular PC does.
There is no superior console, in fact, it's even dumber to go off thinking there is one only two months after their release.
1,899dollars machine?! Jesus Christ!!! that is 5 Ps4 ofcourse concerning the discount of getting 5 ps4
Steam machine are just pc for pc gaming. I have a midrange PC that I can most things on. But i bout a ps4 so can play the games that on not on pc. Steambox is pointless
i could care less about the console war. i got the cheaper one that can play ff15, in the end it's all about the games.
Steam Machine is a basic specification that is open source not a single product like the XB1. There were 14 different third party Steam Machines revealed at CES. The Bolt II mentioned in the video is an ultra-high end toy for people who write checks for Lamborghini's. Most of the steam machines will be "competitive with consoles" on price but have better spec's and access to less expensive pc games, etc.
Microsoft and Sony should start counting in base 8, just to mix things up a bit.
And no, I wasn't expecting a "mobile" chip to outperform the entirety of the PS3 and 360 this soon. That is an incredible piece of engineering. In other news, welcome to 2014!
Steam Box updates keep going up & up & up in price. No longer interested. PC is Definitely the way to go now. If they ever sell the controller by its self, I'd give it a try. I think it would be good for everything except FPS. ( done enough with laptop touchpads to know it won't work)
Translation: 3 Million XBox One consoles SOLD TO RETAILERS, not consumers. There's tons of XBox Ones for sale at EBay, Amazon, TRU, Target, NewEgg.com, Walmart, Costco, Sams Club, KMart, Fry's, Radioshack, Best Buy, Gamestop, etc....
The only console that remains sold out is the PS4. That's the real indicator.
It will be interesting to see the NPD numbers. Bet they can't say consoles are dying after these sales numbers come out.
Cool portal shirt btw.
I was exited for the Steam Machine at first, little by little it has killed my enthusiasm, up to the point were I don't care for it now. It's going to be so expensive I may as well just keep using my PC. Unless Valve makes a lot of must have exclusives you can only play using SteamOS, I say the Steam Machines are just a waste of money and will dissapear the way of the OUYA and Wii U in a few years time.
Lol... Jason, you make a point. This is a copy and paste he's made over and over. I mean it's not likely he can even respond with something even remotely intelligent to be honest. He even claims that what he said was irrefutable evidence. X'D
haha I bought a PS4, but last gen (X360 and PS3) SONY didn't dominate, It literally stumbled into first place
Hey, do you think you could copy and paste this as a comment on every post Gamespot makes? What's that? You already are? Never mind then.
It is very sad to see a console die, i feel very sorry for those people that spent 500$ on their console of choice , but Sony’s PS4 has created an outstanding piece of technology, it has raised the video game industry’s standards in every possible way, the PS4 has a dedicated ALU, GDDR5 RAM and a much better video graphics card , giving a 52.7% performance advantage that the Xbox One will only dream to achieve. With the new PS4 controller, Video Game developers will be able to provide a new extra layer of immersion and further enhancing the gameplay experience to unreachable levels. Thanks to the vastly superior hardware, the PS4 will be able to deliver crisp and engaging graphics, players will be able to enjoy high quality anisotropic filters, incredible Anti-Aliasing processing and high resolution textures. It is very comforting that Sony’s priority is to provide customer satisfaction, this is reflected on their online multiplayer policies. It is no brainer that Sony will once again dominate the gaming industry for the 4th time, Sony has brought innovation to the table further demonstrating that they are simply the best at what they do, they will prevail for ages to come, because they are at the vanguard of technology. I am not a Fanboy, I like PC gaming more that console gaming, i own all the gaming platforms and a Xbox360 (which RROD). I am stating the obvious that Microsoft’s part in the video game industry will come to an end in this next generation. This is concrete proof and irrefutable evidence of PS4’s superiority.
@wizardboyus water cooling system is why there no need for it get a case fan and 2 normal fans would do it, then again it wouldnt be quiet if you did it that way
@drwhoiscool Indeed, those stupid third party computer building companies are ruining the whole thing by putting out these high end overpriced setups! Completely beats the purpose what this "Steam Box" is trying to do: introduce PC gaming to console market.
What Valve should have done is made predetermined hardware specs for companies and say, you need to follow these specs and pricing will be this. It would have made hell of a lot more sense to regular customer than this cluster fuck of systems now.
@drwhoiscool True that. For that $2500 no-monitor steam machine price tag, I could build myself a wicked conventional desktop.
Sold out, the PS4 was never in stock. That so PS2, Sony better get it right and get some system on the market before they get left behind. There game line up still stinks and the only thing in sight is second son and some indie games that should have already been out by now.
@g0ldenpr0pet I can't recall if they used the term or not, but just an additional note on your point for others reading, I believe when they are referring to sales to actual consumers they will use the term "sold through".
@ahpuck Just keep in mind that there can be many benefits for the community and consumers if they can manage to make it successful, and that could also lead to better prices in the future, subsidized deals, etc.
In general. PC hardware prices will probably get worse and worse as less and less people buy desktop PCs nowadays, even laptops are probably getting hammered by the popularity of tablets.
Steam Machines have a good chance of failing, especially with such a risky controller design, but I still like the fact that they are going to try. I think at the very least, the open source / Linux communities will see some benefits.
@Pawfalconbut what about now?
@rsj2 me too.
@drwhoiscool@hystavito@ahpuckI agree. I can't use a Steam Machine for Photoshop or Lightroom and other software I use on an every day basis. However, I can use my PC for gaming and playing Valve games, so what's my motivation for buying a $1,500+ SteamOS running Steam Machine? None, whatsoever. PCs are not going away any time soon.
