GA should be more about people finding a build they like, using the same gear, and having their skill determine who wins. Giving people artificial bumps through gear drops are something for to hit roll RPGs.
You may need to make money, but there has to be a better way than allowing players to pay their way through your grind. If the grind required for items is deemed skippable. Then why the is it there in the first place?
You need PEOPLE to play GA in order for the game to be fun. Waiting in line for a fight because no one is on because they're not going to bother with fighting X times as long as a paid customer for the same gear will ensure that there are LESS people that play. This is a FPS and decent one at that. I really don’t know why this game has progressive stat based gear instead of just universal gear.
Hi Rez. I hope this isn't pie in the sky theory you're hitting us with. I hear what you're saying but every Free to play usually equals: If you pay, you get an IWIN button. When a MMO normally does this, Free to Play means that: "SURE! You can earn EVERYTHING that a paid player can. (If you have next to no life and play this game 24/7 to earn said items)"
Associating money with your items that are NEEDED for gameplay is a bad move. I think the majority of developers that go FtP need to get away from the practice entirely. Hi-Rez should be focusing on vanity items, stuff that makes you look cool, rather than copying the practices of other FtPMMOs.
