So happy Eternal Sonata got a shout-out on this ep! I've been playing it in small increments (with Japanese soundtrack) over the last couple of years and have really enjoyed it so far. I picked it up again recently after a long break and am happy to be playing again.
Also, the reason FF Lightning Returns dialog is repetitive "like language learning" may very well be due to the fact that repeating dialog back to someone is very common and natural in Japanese. It may not sound quite as dumb/ridiculous in the native language. I'm also curious as to whether the game is as obviously Christian as Kevin says it is in the original Japanese or if the translators took some liberties to relate the content to something that English speakers understand.
Looking forward to catching up on the "new" video version of Gamespot Gameplay!
Jeez, make this shows easily searchable! I got this link from Google, not even your internal site search engine threw out these episodes!
get rid of the stupid game show format and keep it like this. And change the name back to 'The Hotspot'. I like that Chris Waters hates FF.
I tought this show was gone with new site but it was just buried under a horrible design. Finally a good surprise.
score really means nothing. i mean. Natural Born Killers , Natural Born Killers, was one of the best movies around and it got a friggin 48% on rotten tomatoes. So scores has no credibility for me. Especially scores on rotten tomatoes.
Usually with reviews I only look at the score, and I read the first and last paragraphs of the review(basically the TL:DR version). If I'm still not sure about whether I want to try the game I'll probably read the whole thing, but usually a score and first and last paragraphs tell me what I need to know, but that's if I know the reviewer and have an idea on what kind of games they like and don't like. For instance there are some games Jeff Gerstmann can dislike, but because I know what kind of games he's into and not into I know that I'll probably like that game even though he doesn't. Ex. He has no interest in the Souls games, while I love them. He loved GTA 5, but I knew I wouldn't like it because he said it felt a lot like the past GTA games, which I didn't really get draw into.
"I am from the darkest timeline" hahahaha! I really liked this episode, you guys should do unscripted episodes more often:)
lol Chris at the end :D
Thanks for the info about Lightning returns, I haven't bought the game yet but planning to. So maybe I should focus and upgrading and stuff instead of finishing the game first, you know, sort of like Demons souls when you die over and over again.
Interesting to see Kevin`s point of view on FF.
this pod cast episode was a bit different in a good way.
for me it`s the only weekly show that I keep an eye out for and like watching it.
The link to Gamespot Gameplay is missing from the videos-shows dropdown menu so I could only find this by clicking "all shows". Is it missing on purpose? I sure wish it can be easier to find!
I do miss the quiz stuff but enjoyable episode nonetheless. Although I missed where you talked about thief or DSII. The latter can probably be explained by Tom's absence.
Haven't played lightning returns and I'm not sure if I will pick it up. I love JRPG (and I love anime) so I can probably handle some whackness in my story-lines but 13's protagonists have not been interesting to me and it doesn't sound like that's changed here.
i would play a bad game 10 times if i had to as work, ........ your jobs are the best.. feel blessed :)
Also I prefer when it's like this and doesn't have the Gameplay format. I just like hearing you people talk about games.
@sammoth To be fair a Beta is kind of expected to not run well. If it keeps up after they sell the game to people like it did with BF4, then yeah that sucks.
@anne_1230 I have already commented this in the past. Gameplay is very difficult to find in the website, and most people either have the url saved or they search via google (which gives better results for the latest episodes better than Gamespot's own search).
I for one spent a few months without seeing it becasue I thought it had been cancelled.
Guys! You need to raise visibility!!!!!
@karan Talk to me again the day you spend 8 hours every day for a week on Littlest Pet Shop :D
@registradus They deal with shitheads like us on a daily basis.
