Notch is such an egomaniac. Who needs to tell peeps how many twitter followers they have during load screens anyways?
blah... this guy is ridiculously over hyped. he got lucky with one game. big fucking deal.
minecraft is honestly not THAT amazing. it has been done and done before.... just never quite as well.
@Geminon Why do I get the feeling your a teenager with an xbox who thinks he is a gamer.
@Geminon sounds like sour grapes to me...
@Geminon It has nothing to do with luck, sir. It has everything to do with people being done with the same old grind that publishers like EA and Activision throw out constantly. Minecraft is a success because it easily allowed the player to create literally whatever he/she wanted. It's a big deal because this industry is lacking heavily in new, creative content. Indie developers are the only people that seem to get this right now. Honestly, indie devs are the only teams releasing quality games these days. So, take your single-minded, uneducated, incorrect opinion elsewhere, sir.
@Geminon Stop being so butthurt, let the man enjoy his success! And yes, it is a good game.
@Geminon NO, it's not. When I saw "Minecon" I was like "sure, why not! Everyone else is doing it."
@WCK619 Talks from FDR to the American people during WWII, made people see him as personable.
@Copianames Maybe, but he's also kind of a slob.
@Copianames Lol? I guess you haven't seen his office and studio? A collection of photos were released for it. This guy doesn't know the meaning of humble, judging by those photos. There is a difference between humble and not giving a ****.
@Copianames Meanwhile the poor try and look "rich" and go even more broke doing so.
uh.... huh. because i dont see games coming out literally -all the time- that are creative and new. deus ex:HR, skyrim, the walking dead... i can name a dozen more. none are indie games, all are creative and push their genres in new and creative directions. the assassins creed series is even released yearly, and yet every year Ubisoft manages to find a new and interesting way to change the formula for the series so it feels new again.
it is the new "cool thing" to think that major developers cant put out games that are fresh these days. that somehow "the man" is keeping gaming down. the idea is blatantly FALSE.
go shovel your grassroots, hippie BS somewhere else.
butthurt? i couldnt care less. the guy is a nobody. when his next game flops nobody will even remember him..... thus the tragedy of the one hit wonder.
unlike most of the jokers on this site, i dont go around defining my life with videogames...
@zheimers @Feedbackula @Geminon The delusion is yours to defend. Many of the these "AAA" games are quite 'depthless' and shallow compared to many games from the 90's-2006. Minecraft is not all about what is shine on a shallow surface as what you seem to only understand. I'm strictly talking about value and integrity. This gaming market lacks it. I wont get to flowery for fear of confusing you. The evolution of modern gaming is going to result in just what you accuse Minecraft of being -- kiddie games with no depth. Since no one is reading this post anymore, let me add, no BS, that is a truth youd be wise to embrace for the future my friend. Adios.
you have deluded yourself into thinking these simple indie games have more depth than modern AAA titles. you are a victim of retro trendyness influence. you have lost sight of what is truly technologically superior and deep. minecwaft is a shallow game for children. of course big studios are milking the market with unnecessary iterations, that are more like patches or expansions, than an entirely new game, but that's not the whole market. if you played a lot of games, which you clearly don't, you would recognize the painfully slow evolution of modern video game technology, that is light-years ahead of these joker games like minecwaft. there are developers that put depth and quality first, look at skyrim, or red dead redemption. you have lost perspective.
" Until then, dont come to a knife fight with coc* in your hand or you might lose something irreplaceable."
that was a really stupid comment by the way.
@zheimers @Feedbackula @Geminon Since you jumped in the middle of this argument then so will I. Gamers of less then 10 years experience dont remember what depth was like in video games. You defend a gaming market that is showing its age. You dont need to be a rocket surgeon to get that our gaming market has become all about money and not the love of gaming. Minecraft celebrates and reflects this. If you had a clue about what you were talking about, then I might respect your opinion. Until then, dont come to a knife fight with coc* in your hand or you might lose something irreplaceable.
you are such a pretentious psuedo-intelligent windbag
Face it, minecraft is a child's game based on 20 year old technology. It is overhyped by psuedo-creative average minded individuals like yourself. I am so sick of all the pathetic attempts at video games from the indie market that are over-hyped and incredibly weak technologically. Minecraft, hotline miami, fez, retro city rampage, the list goes on. Minecraft is very trendy amongst wannabe creative and inteligent individuals that don't have the brainpower to keep up with the advancement of video game technology. You and these games are dumbing down the industry.
You know I don't want to say I agree with Geminon, but what about this; Gamespot continues to give these 'contrived FPS and assassin's creed games' and all the other derivative junk that comes out throughout the year 8.0 and higher ratings, then proceed to complain in every other article about how people are "being done with the same old grind that publishers like EA and Activision throw out constantly."
If these games are so derivative and are all being made with the same cookie-cutter, why does gamespot continue to give such high scores with very few exceptions? It just seems kind of hypocritical.
@Geminon Every example you named off only backs up what I said. Those games are rinse and repeat titles. There is nothing new or creative about any one of them. Not to mention how buggy and unplayable one of those you mentioned is on a certain Sony platform.
And it most certainly is not the "cool thing" to think corporate developers can't create fresh new ideas. Indeed, it's just the opposite. The fact the you mentioned big-name, popular titles for your examples proves this.
And please, enlighten me. How does my professional opinion make it in any way "hippie BS?" Do you even know what a hippie was or is? I can only imagine you threw that terminology into the mix because you simply HAD to find a way to insult me given that my former comments were blatantly true.
I can run you into the ground all day, sir. And yes, that's me, obviously trying to be an asshole. While you're concocting some kind of elementary argument in response to my comment, why don't you take a basic English or Composition course. It'll help you speak through words way more effectively.
Dress up as a superhero and go to cons? Mate I've never been to a convention in my life and the only time I've ever dressed up as superhero is when I was three years old. I do have a life, I play games like most of the modern world does but not 24/7, I go out and meet my friends, the only time I really play a game is when it's raining or no one I know is doing anything outdoors. I guess you're the kind of person that likes FPS's and sports games but you discredit games like Minecraft because they have bad graphics, you really think Notch isn't successful and he won't be remembered? Well he has created an immense community and has sold 8 million copies of his game, have you ever sold 8 million of something mister superior to everyone that plays games?
@Gelugon_baat Gelugon, you are literally everywhere at once on this site. Teach me your ways.
so because im not a raving lunatic like some of you people that cant seem to separate their lives from games; i cant play games, enjoy them, and read a gaming website?
rofl, good one. i suppose unless you dress up as superheroes and go to cons, you arent allowed to read comic books as well?
@Geminon @kelso27 His next game will probably do well based on fan support alone. When he showed the alpha build of it, no one even seemed to mind it was a FPS when everyone complains about the over-saturation of FPS games in the market. He's in the prefect spot right now to succeed.
FYI, I'm talking about his personal project, not his company's.
