i will be buying it for the fact i want to finish what i started lol! i know a lot of people will not agree with this but i also know a lot will...... i want old final fantasy's back!!!! 7 and 8 ...... i want that feeling back ! :(
the game still looks quite linear to me. i think what this game needs are dugeons and maps as complicated as Metroid Prime areas, those were really inmersive. Just magine playing a final fantasy in such a world.
@heroesfan261 xiis story was weak.you cant deny that.but you're right xii was very open and gave much more freedom.for me it just got bland and i lost interest halfway through.we all have our own preferences,i guess.you either love or hate xiii.
hope in the future final fantasy...the charater that we don't control in battle could summon their guardian as well
i don't get it. How come Square-Enix japan can't seem to make a good open, non-linear games and yet Square-Enix London can go and make the most open, non-linear game of all time. It just doesn't make sense to me
@Drunkenboxer07 yes it's just they're western one Mass Effect series, Dragon Age: Origins, Oblivion (It's got Sean Bean and Patrick Stewart what's not to like?), The Witcher Series (Although the first one's combat kind of irked me it still had great depth). But yeah Ps1 was definitely when RPG's were in their prime. My favorite for PS1 was legend of dragoon which gamespot gave a crappy review of.
@Dekanis X was only semi-linear until you got the airship. And I say semi-linear because even though it basically guided you in a single direction it was often full of hidden secrets and treasures to discover. Such as the hidden temple only accessible VIA chocobo that gets you the magus sisters. that and there were a buttload of interesting secret bosses and summons like there are in nearly every FF with the exception of XIII
@ishan9 You're joking right? sure FFXII's character (well, besides balthier) weren't as good but how was XIII better in any way? XII almost nailed the perfect mix between turn-based and action that square enix has been going for. Plus the amount of extra stuff to do and the vast open world was awesome. XIII's characters were even more unlikable than XII's sidequests were all simple kill missions with hardly any variety. The upgrade system was dismal compared to XII's as well. There were no explorable towns in XIII while XII actually had ones that you weren't even required to go to such as nalbina. there was no exploring Via airship either. saying XII wasn't as good as XIII is like saying X wasn't as good as X-2
Hmm gamers didn't like the last game very much so let's put in something they want to see over and over again, I KNOW WE'LL DO QUICKTIME EVENTS! It does look much more open though i'll give it that. But even that doesn't fix the fact that every single character from XIII with maybe the exception of Sazh was cliche and annoying. Also, if we can already see the monsters, what's the point of going into a battle screen, doesn't that just make it take longer? That's what I liked about XII. Sure it was a bit grindy but the way the battle system was designed made grinding a lot more tedious than it was in other games. Plus, unlike XIII, you could still control all the characters, there was still a major element of strategy, and the upgrade system was very free and open to how you could customize your characters, XIII had none of that and from the looks of it XIII-2 doesn't either.
I wished they'd take this awesome engine they've made and ya know....make a GOOD game. Just throwing it out there, probably a good idea but just a suggestion after all.
It took me 6 months to beat FF13 just because it was so bland and boring. I'll be honest and say that I liked the combat system, It was something new but I still liked FF10's better. The storyline is where this game sucked and everything was so repetitive. I also hated the leveling system. After seeing this demo it almost makes me want to say I have restored faith in Square and the ablitlity for them to give their fans what they want and deserve. Almost....
ffxii was the worst.bland story, non existent charcters.but xiii was much better.but i am getting anxious about the release of xiii-2 and versus.
the first one was hard to keep playing because the combat lacked strategy this looks like it hasn't improved at all maybe only slightly even X-2 had a better battle system.
What sucked in original XIII? Combat system, story, skilltree. This takes place in the same universe so the story will be within the same frame as original. I guess it's the same people writing the story so we will again see a devoid of any believable emotion, likeable characters or interesting and understandable story. Combatsystem looks the same to me. No tactics and no strategy, just some autohitting that after the first hour of "oh man this is new and cool" will make you fall asleep of passivity. XIII skilltree was as linear and dull as the game itself. And since the combatsystem looks pretty much the same, my guess is it won't be any better in this sequel. The temporal rift, the world between universes that is apperently full of puzzles that is meant to mix up the pace of the game seemes like an absolute desperate move since it doesn't fit into this type of game at all. We all love puzzles im sure, but we love them when we get to choose to do them. Traditionally to unlock some hidden game content, The cinimatic action sequence definetly comfirmes that the combatsystem lacks strategy, depth and are just plain boring. Hell, the guy trying to promote the game evens says so. But searching for the ultimate monster-buddy could be fun i guess. I'm not buying this unless it gets a score around 9.
Sick of all the bashing against XIII, it dared to do something different, something that wasn't so slowpaced and boring as the usual turn-based system. It was aimed for more action and I enjoyed it. Some people can never be pleased... Its theme song is powerful and vocally perfect (without auto-tune), yet people bashed that even though it was implemented in the game at the end, where it kind of did fit in. Yes it was linear... but X was linear from what I remember, and XII was probably less linear, but that bored me half to sleep. XIII was a great mix of everything I love, with something different to make it unique. I do not understand at ALL why anyone would bash this, when they could be bashing on far worse things in the world of gaming.
gutted ! this look like the same crap as the last game! FF is i hate to say turned into a rubbish brand!
"Lastbullet777 i loved ffxiii cant wit for this one....so far so great" so far so crap u mean....facts is that ff13 is the worst in the series, gameplay wise, story wise, characters, world wise and ofc reviews-critics wise.so no more than 60% are not "so far so great.go play a true ff u might learn something usefull...dont need to reply facts are still with me nuff said kkthxbb
- munnybag5-"to reassure fans that they still know how to make good games."Sry but squareEnix last good game was kingdom hearts 2.before and after that everything they made was totally cash grab horrible games.no wonder this gen square in one if not the worst japanese dev.Bring back squaresoft nuff said.
And still linear....forward-cut scene-battle,forward-cut-scene-battle,forward-cut scene-battle......dont stop smashing the x button gratz u finished the game
Oh yay. They've kept the horrendous battle system. Yet to see a worse battle system in an RPG than FFXIII. I'll pass, thanks.
Also, for those people who think this game is a cash grab, I disagree to an extent. Due to the comparatively negative response to 13, I think both fans and the company realize that this will not sell as well as 13 did. I think what Square is trying to do is pump out a game that is received better by critics, to reassure fans that they still know how to make good games. Recycling the art from 13 largely is a quick and cost effective means of putting out a game to accomplish that goal. However, based on what I'm seeing of this game, they're missing the boat again.
I feel like Square has lost sight of what the fans really want. With 13, they provided an atrociously linear game that wasn't helped by its mediocre storyline. The game's only saving grace was its graphics, which at this point in the generation weren't even all THAT impressive. Now they are trying to make an open ended game to cancel out what went wrong with the previous title. Why can't they just go back to producing well written stories with strong gameplay to back them up, like in the old days? On another note, the music went drastically downhill after X.
@ChaoticLucidity yeah..it would be awesome.i would suggest square enix to release remakes of 6-10.but never should they discontinue final fantasy.just strive for more quality.who knows they might end up making games better than they used to.
It looks like they're making this game too easy though :S FFXIII was easy, just hard killing those damn Long Gui, Gigantuar, & Vercingetorix :P
Not liking the whole monster support thing, but otherwise I'm loving this :) Just hope they don't make a trophy for getting all the endings... unless there's only like 3.
We used to call these things "Map Packs" back in the days.. FF was my favorite series, and they ruined it with 13 (I´m not using roman numbers because this game is no real FF in my world). SHAME ON YOU SQUARESOFT, or enix.. or Eidos or whatevertheheck you´ve become!
honestly my favorite game was FFX..i really enjoyed that one and i played it multiple time so if they did a full HD remake of that one..i'd be sold
question didnt they make kingdom hearts? becuz if so i thought those were really good titles and im talkin bout KH 1&2
Seriously I am really asking this question...Do they even make good RPG's anymore? If so please name some... The best rpgs died with the PS1. FF7, Xenogears were the best 2 games that square has ever released FF9 was even ok. Honestly maybe the best RPGs died even before that. Grandia, Lunar, FF6, ChronoTrigger. The best games these new systems seem to offer are a hybrid action rpg such as Demon's Souls or RPG/Shooters like Fallout and ElderScrolls. Just because a game has a story and character development doesn't make it a good RPG. FF13 was garbage. I played 4 hours of it hoping it would get good and it was a constant disappointment. People seem to think FF10 was good but that was garbage too. FF12 could have been good if the combat system was such garbage.
I don't think this'll win back the Final Fantasy fans of old, but on the plus side remakes of the older games are coming all the time. Up to IV I believe. But sadly not at the HD level most would like. As for new fans who actually enjoyed XIII... Well I got nothing to say.
