The Xbox 360 had a powerbrick and that still suffered from the red ring of death.

My comment from a couple of days ago seems to have disappeared from this topic as well.

Funny how it happens so often.

I was already hella stoked with the XOne before all the bitching. Then when Microsoft switched policies.....yeah, I was still hella stoked! Though, i actually liked a lot of what they were doing to start with and was a little bummed to see the new features gone. Now that I know I only have to pay $60 a year for both me, my fiance, and up to eight other users in my household (vs. PSN being $5 a month per user...$60 annually per person), and that my day one console is coming with an included 4k rated HDMI (something the PS4 is not even capable of), as well as an included headset......hell, I'm really really stoked!!! Still don't know what all the bitching was about to start with. Seems to me it was just PS and PC fanboys looking for an opportunity to troll and so they blew everything out of proportion and twisted everything Microsoft was doing with the new box. I'm a gamer, so its not about this company versus that per say....I want the most out of the gaming world as I can get, so chances are, I'm gonna end up owning every major console just like I have with prior generations. Just so happens, 360 ended up being the strongest contender last generation, and they already look to be more promising in the new one....so its the first of the consoles I'm purchasing. Note, I'm not trashing on PS, the PS4 looks great. The One just looks better is all.

People are quick to forget Sony made a shit load of guarantees with the PS3 and delivered on very few of them and that's the reason im going X1.

I'd rather have a company do a u turn on policy than break promises!

@videogamer008 On paper they are both the same with some exceptions.  The RAM on the PS4 is better than Xbox One. What you need to ask yourself as the consumer is what are you looking for in a console.  The PS4 is $100 cheaper because it does not come with the camera.  With the Xbox the Kinect sensor MUST be attached tot he console for the console to operate.  So right off the bat if the motion capture camera isn't a high priority, save yourself $100 and get the PS4.  Also, this time around both will require a pay to play online subscription, but with Sony you get the PS+ included which pays you back several time over with free games and content.  Also Sony only requires 1 user to have PS+ per console.  With Microsoft everyone who has an account needs Gold.  Using the DVR feature on the PS4 is free to use and is NOT behind the PS+ pay wall and on the Xbox One it is.  Personally I think the PS4 is the better choice due to the amount of first party titles they have.  I know that Xbox also has first party games, but lately I think they have been lacking.  I really only cared for Gears of War and Halo.  They may continue the franchises into the next gen but they are played out.  With Sony you have Uncharted, Killzone, Infamous, The Order:1866, perhaps another iteration of The Last of Us, God of War and some others.  Also the free to play games on PS are awesome.  You have DUST 514, DC Universe online, Warframe, Blacklight: Retribution and Planetside 2.  Like I said earlier, in my opinion the PS4 is the better purchase, but that is me.  Other people may disagree with what I am saying.

@rene9ade520 PS4 will be 4K capable for video just not games.  Sony was one of the first (edit)  companies with a 4K tv on the market it would be pretty stupid for them to not make the PS4 compatible with their own tv.  I know they wont be making 4K games, but honestly MS probably wont either for a long time.  4K tvs are still expensive and hardly any tv networks are actually even broadcasting in 4k yet. Plus 4k games will bottle neck the hardware on either machine since they basically both have the same hardware.

Its sorta like how the PS3 came out with Blueray when no one was even using it. Didnt really effect much.

@TheOmegaForce70 There's a difference between supporting bad policy and supporting the ability to correct errors.

Yes, they made a massive faux pas in the gaming community by trying to press a lot of strict market ideas, but they've recanted, fixed the issues and are working to regain trust. That isn't completely a bad thing. The mark of a good company is the ability to admit when a mistake happens and then try to fix that mistake.

The jury's still out for me as I'm a bit wary of the Kinect's need to be hooked up - seriously, if it's off, why does it need to be plugged in? - but I'm seeing a lot of positive things spinning from Microsoft since June.

@DeanoFantasy I fail to see how a 360 melting relates to you breaking your leg or why you put the 360 in the middle of the floor thus giving it the ability to break your leg =)

Well it did clear up some questions, such as the lack of including a headset.  Now we know.  Though I imagine that didnt really change the opinion about it for anyone.

@lazzdamian666 I don't think that percentage is accurate....just saying. And, I have both PS3 and 360...I have three times the friends on XBox and all the online support and features are miles above PS. So, idk what your talking about with the waiting hours thing. Not to mention the ridiculously robust server set up Microsoft is going to have for multiplayer.....if multiplayer is what your into, there is no contest, Microsoft is leading by miles.

rene9ade520

@wcwj26 I'm with you there, but honestly, as far as these companies "breaking promises" and "changing policies" (as some of the replys state below), who the hell cares. The end product is what matters! Its not about flip flopping, its about business analysis. Both companies are gonna try and make the best product they can that will win the most consumers they can which will put as much money as possible in their pockets. These aren't your best friends from school that just stabbed you in the back, they are companies with market plans and market plans change all the time as does the technology as production comes to a start. If people want to complain about broken promises and the changing of policies, maybe a debate club would be more suiting as a hobby than video games. I play games cause I enjoy games, if Playstation builds an immaculate gaming machine but lies about all the features in the process,....I'm still gonna buy the sucker cause it rocks! With that said, the past attempts at Playstation rigs were decent, but the competition has been better throughout both the last two generation. Its possible that could change with this new generation, but with everything we know about both the new consoles (and I'm not talking about the false assumptions fanboys are making on both sides, just the features and specs), the XOne is just looking like the more advanced of the two and, in my opinion, will have MUCH more to offer in the near future. So yup, X1 all the way for me! Least till I can afford a PS4 as well which I will also eventually get.

@NBDFreakdiesel @videogamer008 ^^^^ although it will still need to be plugged in, I don't really have any issues with that though. I'm still undecided on which console to buy.

Well written comment there NBDFreakdiesel, it's nice to know there's a few people around who can state their opinion in an intelligent and thought out manner. I'm over all this "xbone is shit" stuff going on.

@NBDFreakdiesel @videogamer008 I would add that the PS4 is more games driven, while the XONE seems to be more multi media.  Meaning that it can be used as a cable box/DVR.  If you want a gaming console to play video games, then the PS4 is your best choice.

@NBDFreakdiesel @videogamer008 Appreciate what you have said NBDFreakdiesel. You make some very good points, and from someone who has known only Xbox,  provides some advise may have otherwise overlooked. But still not going to choose right now, as am willing to let time assist with both reviewing quality and price points. Thanks mate.

Stopped thinking about getting a new PS3 after the removed BC. Until more games that I REALLY wanted came out on the 360, I bought Xbox games that I never got to experience because I didn't own one. I never would have bought Halo 3 if I hadn't actually had the chance to own the first two.

@NBDFreakdiesel @spawnholio I agree with you, PS4 is my first choice as well. That said, I might buy an X1 at some point in the future when it gets cheaper, and when more interesting exclusives (such as a new Gears of War) gets released.

I did the same with the PS3. I bought a 360 in 2006, and then I bought a PS3 in 2011 when there was a ton of great exclusives, and the majority of issues were worked out. I think that I'll do something similar with the X1, but like I said, PS4 is my first choice.

@spawnholio Thank you for the positive feedback and the insight on the Kinect sensor.  I had no idea they had even changed their stance on that.  I do have to say when they first revealed the Xbox One I was definitely in the crowd screaming "F Microsoft!!!"  But I see they have changed a lot of problems with the console to appease the masses.  It's nice to see that with a corporation, but I still won't be buying one.  I hope for the people that do spend the money they get their moneys worth, but for me the exclusives on PS are better and in greater numbers and that is where my money will go.

NBDFreakdiesel
NBDFreakdiesel

@GLOK1132 @videogamer008 Absolutely.  And I know that Xbox has changed all of their policies on used game restrictions and sharing and all of that.  But I just don't trust it personally.  There is a mandatory Day 1 system update that is more than likely to block all of that and my opinion is if they can patch it to stop from doing it they can patch to go back to doing it.  I know that sounds a bit extreme, but I will play it safe and stick with Yoshida and his thoughts on the whole thing!  LOL

@Broyds @arqe @mrsqwid @tom2750 @wcwj26 @Ark1of712 Bullshit man. 90% of what he said was inaccurate. The only thing he was right about was that BluRay discs are more durable and hold more data. Outside of that it was all PS3 fanboyism. As far as what he said about graphics, total garbage. Use the PS3 had more processors and how they worked together did make it possible to add more detail at a higher draw distance, but the 360's processors made it possible to add more detail at a shorter draw distance. Basically, 360=better graphics up close, and PS3=better graphics seen at a distance. Idk about you, but seeing as that only really comes into play with sandbox titles, I'd rather have better graphics up close as thats what the gamer notices most. And with ports, more often then not, they actually not only looked better on the 360, but they usually smoother as well unless it was a sandbox style exclusive...which I can't really think of any off hand for the PS3. And even in those cases, it was rare. The 360 had better developer tools which meant most games that were ported to both consoles would get first focus on the 360 and would then port to ps3, so the game would be developed to the 360's specifications and then re-tweaked for the PS3. The only games that would ever be more impressive on the PS3 would BE exclusives. And even those were not necessarily better graphics from a technical standpoint, it was simply about good art and development, using everything the PS3 had to offer. And just a note to his comment above, Uncharted 3 looked beautiful, but from a technical standpoint, the graphics were not very advanced they just looked great. Don't get me wrong, I believe good art direction is more important than technical graphics, but what I'm saying is that its not about what the machine could handle its about design. You could EASILY fit it on one disc and play it on the 360 if it wasn't an exclusive. Had nothing to do with technical specifications. Last but not least, their are some great exclusives on PS3. I don't think I would say they greatly outweigh that of the 360, but there is certainly few gems in the PS3 library. Also, one more note, I don't count the HD collections. Those will come on the XOne now with BluRay discs, and the Playstation was around for an entire generation before the Xbox even came out...so of course they will have more classics.

@Darkfall_05 MS said that the 360 would only be BC with some games from the get go. People were bitching because the list of games was missing some hits, but had a Barbie horse game.

@plaintomato I know your referring to PS3 backwards compatibility, but i'll still say this; Xbox 360 was supposed to be backwards compatible with Xbox Original games. They stopped adding the emulation in 2007 and not many titles are supported. At least they are being totally honest about that this time.
