Evil Within - E3 2013 Stage Demo
Chris Watters kicks off day 3 with Bethesda's Evil Within at the E3 2013 Stage Show!
I kind of get tired of the whole "blood" theme. OMG, massive amounts of blood EVERYWHERE! Rivers of blood! Raining blood! Lakes of blood! Blood coming out of every crack in the wall! Blood when you die, blood when you live, blood splatter on the screen, blood blood BLOOOOOOOD.
It's like zombies, only with (more) blood.
It's been 17 years since the first release of Resident Evil, and this guy still hasn't learned how to write lines that are not cheesy and terrible
i care about difficulty, customization, sophistication, options, meaningfulness, depth and hardcore.
Fantasy land Dizzy guys! It scares me now how an egg can drop that far and never smash?!?!..... The Universe is a cruel and misleading thing indeed!
I really hope they go back to old school horror and drop the action shooter aspects of the horror games these days. I also personally hope they bring back a save file typewriter or somethign of the sort because havign the option to save when ever you want kinda makes the games easyer and less scary.Long story short less action shooter MORE HORROR SURVIVAL!
The scariest games I've played are the ones where you don't have a weapon... like Fatal Frame, where you only weapon is a camera!
I'm glad Bethesda is publishing horror games once again. It was sad when they cancelled Call of Chtulhu: Destiny's End back then.
Sounds like someone finally started hearing all the survival horror fans' complaints about survival horror being turned into more CoD clones with zombies or creatures instead of nazis or terrorists. That's never what survival horror fans wanted and we've practically given up on the whole genre by now. Hopefully this game is good and is a huge success and maybe we'll start to see more true survival horror games released in the future.
I always thought first person view was much more immersive.. to bad they went with third
This doesn't look like any Resident Evil game I've ever played but it sure as hell looks a lot like Silent Hill in fact it could easily be the next Silent Hill game.
I'm not saying it's a bad thing but I thought this guy was some kind of RE hero. Also I'm not crazy about this guy saying they never want you to know what the right thing to do is. I'd rather figure out the right thing to do than go through trial and error.
Well it's early days yet of course. I hope it turns out better than the impression I get from watching the trailer and listening to this guy.
This game looks really promising, because at least I know I've become a bit jaded with survival/action horror games. The Resident Evil series is an action horror series nowadays (and 6 was very mediocre as an action game), the F.E.A.R. series went downhill after the awesome original, the Dead Space series has stayed closest to it's roots, but only the hardcore difficulties really get me nervous in 2 and 3, etc. Game developers, or to be more accurate, the publishers really need to realise that you can't expect survival horror to sell millions. Make survival horror just to scare the crap out of people and you will get a lot of loyal fans and sometimes your game might even become a commercial hit.
Is it bad that i consider The Last of Us to be survival/horror? That game scares the hell out of me.
The Art of "Survival Horror" seems to be lost on a lot of gamer makers. Its not all about how gory, disturbing or violent you can be for cheap shock value. This game takes place at an Asylum, playing as a cop, more grotesque monsters with bloody aprons, knives and chainsaws...flippin chainsaws? "Chainsaw Guy"...Seriously? From what I'm seeing, its just another cookie cutter gore fest. Hopefully I'm wrong. I'm curious if Bethesda can somehow make it work on some level.
Ultimately, when you tell me the guy who was the head honcho over one of my favorite games of all time (RE4), and the company that has produced some of my favorites games of all time (Bethesda), are teaming together to make a survival/horror game, I get pretty damn jazzed. This game looks epic. Will definitely be something I keep a close eye on. Might be the game to really bring back the survival/horror genre.
This is next-gen graphics? What a disappointment... no GI approximation of any sort, looks like current gen.
Looks serviceable. 95% of the game industry don't understand that something this overt isn't scary. Fear isn't the killer showing up behind him with a chainsaw, it's when he returns from checking the door and the killer is suddenly gone. Horror is all about what you don't know and can't see and that requires time to build up tension. Horror games are "fun" in the way Spec Ops or Amnesia are "fun"; their sole purpose is to reach catharsis by dragging you emotionally through the mud. Atmosphere means nothing in a horror game if you can't establish that connection early on, if the mechanics aren't tactile, and the pacing is too fast. All of which seem to be the case.
@Fatal-Chaos Every game doesn't need to be first person
@BLaverock Such an underrated game. I need to go back and play that again.
@BLaverock myn was Haunting Ground for ps2
@blueinheaven hey, if they go back to Silent Hill 1 and 2 and 3 roots im all for it. Instead of RE 5 and GARBAGE RE6.
@twisted_outlaw It is a scary game I screamed like a little girl LOL
@Gravity_Slave This is the same guy who did the original REs. I for one am giving him the benefit of the doubt when it comes to pulling off a good survival horror game. Between that, and Bethesda producing it, I personally think it is going to surprise a lot of people.
Also, what's wrong with Chainsaws? Just saying, the chainsawer in RE4 was one of the scariest bastards in gaming if you ask me . . .
@TheGamerPhenom the more the better. i'd love to get to the point where i'm saying there's too many survival horror games.
@henry4 Considering the game isn't due out for around another year, maybe you should hold back on judging simple things that can be improved later in the development process. Or, you know, base you opinion on the game watching it through a computer screen that was recorded by something else. That'll give you a perfect estimation of what it looks like every time, yep.
@MurderBones Eh . . . just saying, when a chainsawer would pop up out of nowhere in RE4 and kill me, it was pretty damn scary.
@nyran125tk @blueinheaven Jeez, it really was bad wasn't it? I bought that on release dude, my wallet told me I was making a mistake and after just Leons story it was back in the box ready to go right back to the store.. Games these days are starting to scare me in general, the quality (in my opinion) is lacking more and more, I played Perfect Dark Zero for 3 ours lastnight?! WHAT IS GOING ON?!?!?!
@TheGamerPhenom @Gravity_Slave I think the "chainsaw" point he's trying to make is that why would anyone be scared of something they've seen a hundred times? Unless one is more interested in the action sides of these games...but I mean the reason I play horror games is for the thrill of the fear, isn't that the point? That's why I like to go for the ones that are psychologically disorienting, since the gore and monsters are more susceptible to becoming repetitive.
@TheGamerPhenom @henry4 I would hardly consider better GI a "simple thing" that can be fixed quickly. If the devs chose to show this footage they must believe the look is representative of their product.
I have the right to be picky about graphics, you know. And I suppose you have the right to complain about a comment that did not attack you personally.
@Jaku13 @TheGamerPhenom @Gravity_Slave the fact that chainsaw guy occurred so early in the game gives me reason to believe they've got a lot of creative ideas in store.
it actually gives me the hope that gameplay meant to actually be "scary" and intense is beyond chainsaw guy.
"you should hold back on judging"
"Or, you know, base you opinion on the game..."
This is a public forum like you stated; people come here from different backgrounds and with different interests. I enjoy the opinions of those who analyze (and criticize) gameplay. I am into graphics. I will comment on that.
@henry4 @TheGamerPhenom Touchy, touchy. All I said was that you are jumping the gun a bit on a game that A) Isn't due for release in quite some time, and B) That graphics don't always translate to their full quality when going through multiple mediums (their recording device, your computer screen, add that into the original showing, and quality can *easily* be lost). I didn't attack you personally, I stated points in response to a point you made on a public forum for ALL to see.
If you can't handle someone disagreeing with your opinion, you probably shouldn't be posting on a public forum. It'll kill your self-esteem. I never said you don't have the right to be picky about the graphics (although if you ask me, you miss out on a bunch of fantastic games if graphics are your number one concern), I said you were overreacting to a rather early showing of the game. Reading comprehension *is* important, you know.
@henry4 @TheGamerPhenom not only are the graphics very good at this point, but, thankfully, gameplay is the ultimate factor in determining whether something is "next-gen."
