Danny,

Really enjoyed the episode, man. Gave me some good insight to the UK line of games and their progression. Especially glad I saw that episode about Cannon fodder first, definitely gave me a better understanding of why the game is considered such a gem.

Sugestion: Why not do Freespace 1 and 2? Theres a kickstarter game that is its spiritual succesor and Freespace is generally loved though not a great sales record. What say you, Scotsman?

@s2thugskater That might be tricky - Zipper was Sony-owned, and their former employees couldn't speak about their experience there without Sony's approval or anonymity.

Besides, it's not like Zipper's employees would have had such a personal story to tell about their studio. They didn't own it, and technically all they lost was their jobs.

I am from Brazil and I know quite a few people who had AMIGAS and played some of Sensible games. Plus, I had Cannon Fodder on the PC.

Anyway, cheers for this guys if nothing else but because they were RUSH fans!!!!

I'm from Argentina (that's in South America, for illiterates), and my brother and i loved SWOS (even though we first knew striker, which was basically the same game). So, it did travel across the atlantic... in the form of chinese cheap cartridges!
do a EFMS crash-racing and car combat.

@Korkahl @dannyodwyer The games you listed are pretty much my favourite (**** you spellchecker, I'm putting the 'u' in) games of all times, nothing else really comes close. I've thought about recommending them to Danny for this many times, I'm just a bit apprehensive because of how much work it would be. They are all huge games that take a very long time to play through properly and appreciate. There's also a lot of them if you include all the related companies (like you said: Interplay, Bioware, Black Isle, Troika, Obsidian, InXile), so to do properly I just feel it would be a huge amount of work for someone I don't think has played any of them besides a small amount of Fallout.

That said, if Danny is up for it I think it could be great. Great games, cult following, ongoing projects, studio politics, lawsuits... lots to talk about. It would also give all these guys a nice but of publicity/exposure outside of their cult following.

Excellent work as always, really enjoyed hearing him talk about the company and how it got started. Being from North America and starting gaming with the PC and later the SNES I never did play any of their games but have known about some of their games (mostly Cannon Fodder and Sensible Soccer) for years now, was happy to learn more about them.

Once again Danny, a well done, informed, interesting and completely researched video. Wow, when we see REAL game journalism like this it really stands out against all the shallow gossip columns out there attempting to pass as 'well researched' (vomit) game journalism.

It's because of dedicated journos like you that younger gamers get a chance to get a complete perspective about the history and passion of game development.

Keep it up Danny!

Anyone play Darklands? Incredible RPG with a huge open world and a beautiful user manual. I think it was like 100 pages with artwork on all games. Probably the lesser known game from Micropose when compared to Master of Magic, X-Com, Civilization, etc. I would love more story behind Darklands! Dragons, demons, cults, alchemy, prayers, events, exploration, open world, extremely customized character creation, tons of weapons and armor. It had so much and all set in medieval Germany.

@Act_Chill Would love the guys behind the new XCOM game (Firaxis) to get the licencing rights to that awesome and engrossing IP. The updated controls Firaxis would provide the already involved and deep game world would be epic. But it would need to match the originals art style, not cartoony like XCOM is (which works for that title but Darklands need to be like the original)

I played Cannon Fodder and all my friends did too. I live in the US, but I have to say Command and Conquer had a huge push and was well know. I loved that game. Cannon Fodder I had to find out from my friends. With better marketing it would have sold more.

@KingDukas It's only 4 games (and one cancelled project). Not really enough to base an entire episode on.

@kohle36 @KingDukas Thanks for the comment, kohle36, but I disagree. The Fallout series is rich enough to formulate a 15 min video-doc. Plus, there's another game on the horizon. (In fact, I suspect Danny / Gamespot are waiting for the Fallout 4 release date to be announced before they create a dedicated episode.)

Anyhow, I doubt the number of editions of a particular series really matters when deciding the next subject of EFMS. The content and popularity is everything IMO.

Cheers

@ @kohle36 @ @KingDukas Six games (one of them being one of the worst games I've ever played) and one cancelled and because Fallout is a successor to Wastland he could also talk about that and the upcoming Wasteland 2. Or he could talk about post apocalyptic games in general.

I loved these games as a kid. Sensi Soccer and Kick off 2 was where my true love of gaming started. So many hours I spent so much joy they gave me and my friends at the time is beyond words. I say thank you to the makers of them and I love them all to this day. Bless you all for making my childhood some what enjoyable.
