everything about this game looks so awful and boring, and i'm being nice. I'm feeling like taking a cr@p on this game to make it a little bit better.
Stardock is small indie developer, and they chose to create good games with deep gameplay instead of flashy trailers. Good approach I would say.
For a better idea of what Elemental will offer, you need to watch some of the actual gameplay demonstrations since the experience simply can't be conveyed in a 2:00 trailer. @ BornGamer It's not based on experience but Stardock has a great strategy game track record. For me, that and the promising previews are enough to make me feel pretty confident this is going to be a good game. @KayHangman Yeah, it's a rather crappy trailer. I was just saying making a good TBS trailer is hard. I mean, Civilization 5's only trailer was a bunch of CGI scenes that had nothing to do with the gameplay.
@Uthar_Wynn I wasn't expecting action-packed, although all trailers need to get the viewer "excited" about what they are seeing (otherwise they failed). I just found it to be amateurish in the attempt to be dramatic with that awful writing. But it's just a trailer and has very little to do with the game itself. I'm not judging the game based on the trailer, just pointing out that it doesn't do anything positive to sell the game.
@ Uthar_Wynn "The beauty of the game will be in it's strategic depth and captivating gameplay" I hope you're basing this statement on first-hand knowledge rather than wishful thinking. I hope this turns out to be the next great TBS game but judging by the beta forums it seems it may release riddled with bugs and a pretty lame tactical combat engine. Better to err on the side of caution with any new highly anticipated game IMO.
@KayHangman I just think it's inherently hard to make an exciting, action packed trailer for a turn-based strategy game without just using CGI cutscenes. The beauty of the game will be in it's strategic depth and captivating gameplay, not an adrenaline-rush that can be conveyed in a trailer.
I'm all for Elemental and have been watching it's development for a long time, but that was a pretty blah trailer, especially for the launch. Ah well, here's hoping the game lives up to expectations.
Man, I hope this game lives up to my expectations. This one looks like it has the potential to be a real gem.
