Editor's Reactions to Uncharted 4 - Sony E3 2014 Press Conference
Chris, Danny, Dan and Peter discuss the surprise Uncharted 4 teaser trailer.
I kind of love how pretentious Naughty Dog has become- I know people don't usually don't consider that a virtue, but I personally like they fact they know they're the sh*t. No need to be humble when the rest of the industry is still decades behind. They are one of the only video game companies in history that is allowed to do stuff like this. Team Ico and Naughty Dog... remind me if I'm forgetting someone.
Those thinking the game will end up looking like that... I have a bridge to sell you in the Sahara.
May not have been CGI, and hell, may have even been run on a PS4 dev kit. BUT, that's without ANY game code... so it's like those neat little demos they used to give with graphics cards. The game will look great; just not *that* great. Sony just LOVES to CGI sh1t up.
The virtual absence of Elena and Chloe in the last game was infuriating to me, so I'm concerned that we got no sign of their involvement here.
I'm pretty sure the main reason Drake looks different is because he is older. He certainly looks older and the trailer mentions "i've been out for too long..." Just taking a stab based on appearences here, but i'd say Uncharted 4 takes place 10-15 years after the previous games.
Disappointed there was no gameplay...
Also... it sounds kinda like the last uncharted game.
Maybe now Druckman has taken over, he's decided to kill the franchise so he can work on new IPs...
And Drake looks old and skinny.
Yet another sequel, yet another milking of a franchise causing key development team members to flee.
@chippiez The trailer said it was captured directly from a PS4, though this looked like it was a cut scene from the game. If you look at all three previous Uncharted games, the cut scenes in those games were pre-rendered, but they were pre-rendered in-engine. The cut scenes in the previous Uncharted games did look a little better than the actual gameplay, but there was not that much of a difference. I think it will be the same case with Uncharted 4, gameplay won’t look as good as this trailer, but it will be very close.
@McDog3 I thought the same thing. The problem is Sully was already in his 50's, so if they do flash forward very far it's going to get implausible for him to be very involved. No more implausible than Drake surviving a plane crash and long walk through the desert, but still.
@tom_cat_01 We were assured there would be no more Metal Gear after IV, but money always trumps promises and plot issues.
@tom_cat_01 Screw nem IPs GIMME JAK AND DAXTER!
@Kyrylo The trailer certainly shows a grittier game, which granted is becoming an overused trope in US entertainment. But emo? In no way, shape or form does that even make sense.
@BARRICADE_28 Rumor has it that Naughty Dog didn't want to make the game and Sony may or may not have begged them to do it. It's hard to knock this as "another milking of a franchise". The game's name seems to suggest a compromise that this will be the last Uncharted game.
Naughty Dog seems to have a thing about releasing trilogies. So this should come as no shock. Maybe they created Uncharted 4 because they knew they couldn't make a racing game out of it.
@BARRICADE_28 Yet another thing for you to whine about on the internet.
@Lhomity As stated elsewhere probably more than a few times, unlike last year, there were no "drop the mic' moments, nor did the games look entirely original, but overall, it all looked impressive enough with the new hardware to justify being excited for what's to come. I personally had some moment where I was like "No, not that excited. Next." but overall I find it hard to be totally pessimistic about it. They were all solid.
