Booth size totally matters.

That's why most gamers strongly prefer playing with big black sticks and big black balls over shrinking PS3s and tiny Wii Wiis. Even the white X360 suffers from execution dysfunction. Gaming PCs have incompatible and complex personalities with expensive demands.

Think about it.  Scratch that. FEEL it. Using a big black stick to smack around a tight white ball is thrilling.  Using a big black ball to breach through a little white hoop is incredible. They are so much funner than fiddling around with petite buttons.

Playing with big black sticks and big black balls is very affordable.

No matter what you do in MMORPG games, they are always crap.

people who claim western gaming (or whatever region of the map they prefer) is not a true gamer. Just enjoy your games, losers. I play a mix of what people call western and eastern games, majority of it eastern but thats just because their output is quite huge with a good variety of games.

Fun fact: before this gen games were games not 'western' or 'eastern' but then I suspect a lot of people are really more aware of the aggressive marketing from western companies that at times is negative and not focused on games

I look forward to a time when games are just global, due to localization becoming trivially easy.  I think technology will make that a reality before too long, but in the meantime, they've got all these ridiculous hurdles to worry about, and we miss out on lots of great games.

Well, to tell the truth about what I think: Eastern game developers are as great as they ever were, and they make the games I want to play the most.

From handheld games such as the Professor Layton and Ace Attorney franchises to big console tittles such as Vanquish, to my now all-time favorite game, Dark Souls, the eastern games are the best.

I enjoy western games too of course, such as God of War and Uncharted for example, but the east has it's share of great developers, and I wish they had a little more presence in the west.

I think Japan just wasn't ready for this gen.

It's true that eastern games don't have much success for wathever reason, mut they are also disrespectul towards the western fanbase. Biggest example is Monster Hunter, my favourite game ever, which is one of the most played title in japan, and I can proudly say that I've played any western release to date. I'm quite happy at how they brought mh3 on the wii(which I got basically only for this game), but when monster hunter frontier for he 360 was announced to be released only in Japan is like they just spit in the face of their western fans. There can't be hope in selling in western countries if they believe that those countries aren't worth releasing

The solution here is to stop Tecmo Koei making games. Then maybe Western audiences won't think "Japanese game" is synonymous with the Dynasty Warrior knock-offs that they peddle

Ill say that eastern developers are kind of aware that they are losing their share in the western market. Im not sure how they are doing at home, but the lack of sales square is experiecing is all the proof they need.

I think Dragons Dogma was/is japans chance to change their direction.

You know, for how flooded the MMO genre is with mediocre titles, there's not really a stand out oriental martial arts themed MMO out there.  I've played a few such games, but they were all instantly forgetable, involving grinding boring mobs over and over.  Age of Wushu looks like it's doing some exciting things with freedom of movement, but I'm still worried about the combat and questing in the game.  Still, I'm definately going to keep an eye on it.  It looks like it has some real potential.

Western games are far more superior! And progress with superiority. But I absolutely love when a good Japanese game comes along, i.e. Metal Gear Solid, Dragon's Dogma (which actually was a blend of traditional western RPG); Dark Souls, etc.

good stuff, but i never doubted eastern games. western games are plain, bland, uninspiring, and have extremely un unique plots. Take a game franchise like Shin megami tensei. It does everything, but leave western games with anything to be proud of.

Unless Eastern developers get to understand Western culture and understand Western gamers dont like games with repetition, grinding and Boredom and that we see those things as a negative. I dont like their chances because a lot of games free to play and other wise exist but too many are grindfests and the free to play model I really feel makes the experience feel throw away because it doesnt address what a game is in its totality its only giving 12-30% of the experience and telling you in order to enjoy 100% you have to pay to win to me thats a broken game.

I don't see how E3 means anything other than to other developers - I mean I personally can not afford to both travel, buy a ticket and pay for a hotel stay just to look at games I *might* buy. I know I am not alone at this. That being said, I'm sure there is a part for E3 in this world; but if the trend continues as it is: less and less companies are attending. Where was valve? Blizzard? On and on... The answer is that when a company gets big enough in this day in age, they host their own convention - or better yet, DON'T. Online carries a long way....Now the flip side, the "smaller" companies, indie for example: Can't afford to host an E3 booth... So really, E3 less and less of a "must see" event.

@DevilD2005 9 Dragons wasn't bad, but the grind was one of the worst I have ever had in an MMORPG. I fear this game will be too similar to 9 Dragons.

@bogan79 while i totally agree with you, i have noticed a decline in eastern games.  i used to be all about eastern games favoring their anime style to the realistic western style.  to date, my rpg preference is JRPG over western RPG.  however, looking at my ps3 library (which is not updated in my profile) im starting to lean toward western titles more.  either the lines between the 2 have been blurred so much or someone leaped over the other in terms of evolution.  i hope its the former.

@im2cool123  loooooooooooooooooooooooool western game is alot better this gen they have more emotion adn bla bla involve in the story like in heavy rain, dragon age (even DA2 even if the story lacks u still have emotional attachment to the characters) and Deus Ex etc there r some good jap game but they r rare

Right, because eastern games with generic hero that lost his memory and finds out later that he is OP is definitely an inspiring concept that we should adapt to our western gaming.

What are you smoking?

Dragon Age Origins, The Witcher, Red Dead Redemption, L.A Noire, Batman series, Uncharted series, Portal, Bioshock, Dead Space, Assassin's Creed series, Mass Effect series etc

Sorry but Eastern developers did very little this gen and only Japanophiles like you fail to see that.

Sounds like Call of Duty series, Battlefield series, Medal of Honor series, Killzone series, Gears of War series, Tom Clancy's first person shooters, etc.

@IanNottinghamX Some of these games do well here. Why do you think Dynasty Warriors gets released on every system. They have a huge American following.

bogan79

@ryan_sr97c_1 I guess it comes to personal tastes i guess - its hard to objectively state a decline in eastern games and a rise in western games when we're having fun with a Catherine game or a mass effect game..except I will point out that western game companies have really pushed into the console market this gen (almost abandoning their traditional PC market) where the money has always been AS WELL as what I see as a coordinated (sounds cheezy but go with me here) attack on japanese gaming which has been relentless. People have always hated on western or eastern games for whatever reason (i've been there :D ) but this Gen the anti-japanese bandwagon has really grown. why? competition man.. the americans did this with Cars in the 80's remember,

@Reaverking  @King_TigerMK3 I usually agree that you can praise a game without taking down another. But in this case I must agree with King_TigerMK3.Skyrim is shallow and boring in my opinion. And I say this because I remember what Morrowind used to be.

@SoreThumbsBill Heavy Rain is a good enough example to prove im2cool's comment is ludicrous. And I would agree with you on all of the examples you listed, expecially Uncharted & Mass Effect; but also add (even if you don't like the game) CoD, Elder Scrolls, Halo, Deus Ex & God of War. And now we have The Last of Us inbound, which could set a new benchmark for artificial intelligence -- put that in your pipe and smoke it, "im2cool".

I wish someone would make a proper sequel/remake, I miss that game.

I preferred playing as a Toreador. Sure I didn't get the cool craziness of the Malkavians but I loved seducing almost everyone to get my way or a free meal!

@SoreThumbsBill Thank you.I feel the need to show my love for malkavians as much as possible.I blame it on VtM Bloodlines.

@hellfire2034 Right, but they have enough Americans buying their games to keep releasing them. As long as they sell, it's not going to stop.
