E3 2012: Sony Press Conference Breakdown
John Davison and Eddie Makuch put aside their exhaustion to tell us about the Sony press conference.
The Sony conference was great until that Book of Secrets presentation sucked the energy out of the room. But it was entertaining before and after that.
Nice breakdown, it was looking kind of dull so I decided to hit the hay halfway through (01:30am at the time).
Glad to hear you mention the violence, don't get me wrong I love the realistic element of adding violence into games, now in my 30's I started out with Wolfenstein 3D and Doom, I enjoy violent movies as much as the next man (horror movie fan) but I don't love them because of their violence, it just adds to the experience.
I must be getting old, I found it odd that everyone was cheering at a few scenes of gratuitous violence, it was well done no doubt but wasn't anything to get excited about. On the plus side I think "Beyond" has potential but they didn't really show much of it, same with "Last of Us", honestly though they look a little linear when it comes to gameplay, like an interactive movie and I think what a lot of people (myself included) are looking for is something that really tries to break the mould.
I really don't know how anyone can be impressed by Beyond. They hired a good actress but they didn't gave her any line. Also, perhaps is just me, but I don't thrust Cage to produce a good gameplay experience. So far, he just offered a series of quicktime events that just annoy viewers, perhaps to distract them from realize they are watching a poor movie.
The conference itself was somewhat weak as their strongest presentations were from games already revealed. I was really not impressed by the new stuff. Even The Last of Us was a little disappointing, although my expectations were perhaps a little too high. Also, they still didn't gave me a reason to buy a Vita. I want it, but I need some reason to justify my investment.
Thanks for the coverage, but i really expected more for ps vita. Was a little disappointed that Sony didn't announce some more stuff.
@pudsley I also found the blatant blood lust from the crowd a bit disturbing. I don't mind violence in games but I never have that kind of visceral reaction when I kill something in a game. And I don't need ultra violence in a game to get me to buy it.
@hunter1012 Assassin's Creed, Black Ops, All Stars and Little Big Planet not enough for you?
@hunter1012 Indeed, they need to push more Vita titles.
@raycey Maybe it was wishful thinking but I wish that they would work on more stuff like:-Reduce prices on downloadable games.
-Reduce prices on memory cards especially now that it has PS ONE support now.
-Finish supporting the PSP library -- there are still a bunch of games that do not work
-PSN re-releases of PS2 games would be great
-Announce or just show the demo of the FF X game since I'm a huge FF game.
Looking at the list, I definitely think that it is only wishful thinking... =(
