@ Joeywan i wasnt aiming the graphics argument at you, it was just explaining the reasons why i become opinionated. i do like having a decent discussion on what people like/dislike about games, and being civil and all that, but i just get anoyed with people who have jumped on the graphics band wagon and insult games just because the graphics arent the greatest ever made (especially when the game is as good as dragon age will be)
@Dr_Manfatten Yep. I am a little surprised. I'm glad to have gotten some agreement out of you. :D You don't have to worry about me using the graphics as an excuse not to like Dragon Age. It's on my top five list of games to get before 2010. You're absolutely right, though. The size of the game is going to more than make up for some lack of detail. I'm just being picky.
@ lightwarrior179: I have found many games that have great stories! The Half Life series I love... Mass Effect, the Warcraft series for goodness sakes there are tons :D
I agree the bows do look a little awkward without strings...although that might be an optional thing you never know! The Game looks Great for everything else though...so I can't complain :D
@ Joeywan well, you may be surprised but i am actually going to retract some of my comment...looking back at the video a while ago i did realise what you meant, i still hold firm my stance on the graphics...but i do now realise that the bows do look somewhat lacking (but still the right size :p) i suppose i was just in a funny mood that day, seems a stupid thing to argue about, especially seeing as i now agree that the bows look a bit off without the strings...but you never know, i may still have been right about them just not bothering to make the strings.because they thought they would look bad. and on the point about me being opinionated- yes i am, on subjects that i care about...and i do know that graphics can improve the game, but i dont like people who use graphics as a reason to dislike a game...also i think bioware made a good choice with the graphics for dragon age- there great, but not too great, so the game, in its massive size can run smoothly on most computers- can you imagine the system requirements if a game of this size actually had mass effect graphics?
@Dr_Manfattan I would actually still like to see bow strings, yes. It would be a nice detail. I have noticed that you like to reply to people a lot. I see your name all the time. I also noticed that you are very opinionated. That's not a bad thing, just an observation. I understand that bad graphics don't ruin a good game, but good graphics can improve any gaming experience. A little bit more attention to detail couldn't hurt the developers of Dragon Age: Origins. Admit it. As I said before, though, I am still very excited about this game.
The in-game cut scenes don't look too amazing, but the combat actually helps with that a great deal. It looks pretty engaging. I can't wait. @-@
@ Joeywan the bows aren't any bigger than the longbows of the medieval ages, also would you prefer the bows to have strings, knowing that its hard to make bow strings in games without them looking terrible?, especially when there pulled. dragon age doesnt focus on graphics, so they obviously decided against wasting there time on bow strings.
Is it just me, or do the weapons all look very large. Especially the bows. I also don't like the lack of string on the bows. Do the arrows shoot by magic, or something? A bit dissapointing. Oh well. I'm still excited.
@Dr_Manfattan: +1. I agree that nobles are supposed to be pretty good fighters. It's too bad they show pieces of action and not much in terms of storyline. The quest nonlinearity is what's going to make or break the game, imho. If they live up to its promises of early decisions having big effects later in the game, then count me in. After all, in RPGs combat is secondary. And the party character reaction system sounds really good.
@Ekkoe -- The only association BioWare had with NWN2 was that Obsidian used BioWare's "Aurora" Engine. Other than that they didn't have nothing with NWN 2 at all. If you really want to criticize BioWare, atleast get your facts right so that you won't give baseless arguments on why BioWare's storytelling is awful. If you ask me, if BioWare's stories are bad, then do video games have any good stories at all?
OMG people RPG key word fantasy. All people wanna do now days is Frickin wine and gripe about its not like this or that. If you dont like it keep your mouth shut and dont buy it. I think its a fresh Idea and about darn time I think. So tired of the same old crap like LOTR so stop comparing cause this is totally diffrent if you think it should be like LOTR then go play that friking game.
The voice acting sounds polished and well done. There are shadow effects on the ground, ... But... It needs shadows on the faces and bodies and other objects. It needs dynamic lighting casting shadows on actors such as the shadow of the nose on a face, or else 3D objects look flat. And without dynamic lighting, gradation, and shadows, the background textures look a bit "off", too saturated, & flat too.
@zongonz: Bioware put their stamp on it. They also approved of the story and offered guidance and the combat system (though the combat system was decent). @mramz88: Agreed, but again, it shouldn't matter if they nail the story and atmosphere. I'm just sceptical.
Again @ Ekkoe, That's like saying Modern Warefare 2 is gonna suck because World at War sucked. They're not made by the same developer.
@ Ekkoe, I just wanted to point out that NW2 wasn't made by Bioware, it was made by Obsidian. So don't go judging Dragon Age's story based off of your views of NW2.
I hate how many people are dissing this game for stupid reasons such as whats wrong or right in fantasy world(there is no wrong or right, its fantasy not reality), and how the gameplay looks bad because you are assuming how the game is going to be played. Go and look up Baulders gate and then you will probably get the closest thing to what the combat system will be like.
The graphics look clunky and awkward, not unlike NWN2. This won't affect me one bit if the story is good, but frankly, Bioware has never amazed me with storytelling. Especially NWN2 had a terrible and over elaborated storyline. Of only Black Isle was still here...
To DeadlyPlatypus: It's a fantasy RPG, not a historical RPG. There weren't demons, orcs, or dragons in the Middle Ages either.
the genre now of RPG is saturated with the same old stuff. graphical improvements is simply not enough to revolutionize this genre. i firmly believe that the next evolution of RPG should put a ton of focus and importance on PHYSICS!, effects, frame rate, edible story telling and character development. otherwise, they should just redo the previous top rated titles like baldurs gate, icewind dale and neverwinter nights. i think neverwinter nights was the peak of the RPG genre and after that its all downhill...
@ DeadlyPlatypus you may not think she should be able to fight, but from looking at this video i wouldn't want to be on her bad side.
Dr Manfattan, I agree, for the most part. Why is your in-game mother able to fight though? Women didn't fight in the Middle Ages, upper class or no.
@ Jshaw71: noble just means higher class...and if you think about the medieval ages all the best warriors, the knights, where upper class, so it does mean the same as it does in this world, and they are likely to be good warriors.
that wouyld be hard for me to leave a dying family member, esp my father, just so i could shed more blood, but i guess more sould be shed regardless... thanks for the preview, wow looks very impressive, could someone explain to me the term noble, dose it mean something different in their world? than it dose in ours... i don't see noble being able to fight very well...
This game looks absolutely amazing. Hell, even if it's only HALF as good as KOTOR it will still be awesome.
@zgreenwell i agree that the graphics aren't as good as mass effect (but in HD they still look pretty good) but this game is more about a developed storyline with more choice, this game is also looking to have a much bigger world in which to play, along with the fact that there are more enemy's on screen. so im sure no-one will care about the downgrade in graphics compared to all the other improvements this game is looking to offer. And im sure the graphics will be polished a bit before release.
@Whiteman007 How old are you? Because you can't have been gaming for long if action games are the only thing that registers to you. Haven't you ever played Kotor or NWN or Baldurs Gate? Did you even ask yourself the question of what Genre this game is in? Or did you just start blathering nonsensical rubbish on instinct?
@whiteman007: pretty much everything you said was false, as Mr_Silent_D said its realtime turnbased combat, and how have you not seen any spells yet? there's at least one in most videos.
@ whiteman007 they have released plenty of videos showing what the actual gameplay is like and it is not button mashing or hack'n'slash it is realtime turnbased like in KOTOR. so why dont you actuallly watch the other videos before you start bagging out the game.
Graphics could use some improvement. It looks like they have more effects and maybe more enemies on screen, but this doesn't match the graphics in Mass Effect.
What's wrong with you guys? All you care about is that there is blood splashing around everywhere. Sure, its nice that a game is doing that, but that's not what makes a game good. So far it looks like this game has one attack button to swing. They were just sitting there swinging at each other recklessly hoping that the other one would die first. There is no skill. Just spam square until the person is dead, wow, real hard. This game would have been worth the money/time if there were parry skills, combo attacks, or spells or anything. All I've seen is wild, care-free swinging. Unless they release more videos showing other wise, this game isn't worth the $. I hope you guys enjoy this.
dragon age, mass effect 2, alpha protocol ... this is the first time i long for gamse to be released since last year fable 2 and fallout 3
dragon age and mass effect 2 look like he two most badass games coming out over the next several months by far...thanks bioware for being awesome
