Dragon Age Gets Some New Digs at PAX East 2012
Here's part one of the Dragon Age Panel at PAX East 2012.

also, i really don't want it to be called "dragon age 3"
the first one wasn't called "dragon age" it was "dragon age: origins"
it had a theme. it was that little something that made it different
dragon age 2 had no (title) theme.
actually the blood mage storyline was really cool, I really liked how they explored the tevinter/blood mage part of the dragon age world.
I'd really love to learn LESS about Orlais (fuck orlais)

i played originally as a rogue in origins (like anybody with a brain, duh - ha) and the battle mechanics were pretty involved I think, playing as a dual-wielding rogue. You had to really pay attention to try to maneuver to get the back stab motion. And you had to make sure nobody was attacking your character and all that.... The rogue in dragon age 2 was much flashier and they really upped the excitement factor... but it lost that special... "je ne sais quoi"
Those of you who feel the need to throw a fit and complain about how you want the dragon age game to be more like call of duty and god of war and want to criticize, seriously need to shut up and stick to your boring repetitive god of war and call of duty style games. Bottom line, if you don't like this style of game or game play then dont play the game. simple as that.
please i want dragon age 2 gameplay or something that is a 2.0 update of it. please do not go back to origins. origins gameplay sucked so very much. i want lotr return of the king or god of war 3 kind of gameplay in this next epic rpg installment
I find it very corageous or very foolish of Bioware to actually dare going on with the development of a Dragon Age 3 game, after the shameful and embarassing failure that was Dragon Age 2.
I mean, this is almost as embarassing as James Cameron coming back to direct "Avatar 2", you know, everyone knows it's bad and everyone repudiates it, no matter how many members of the development crew do their best to post false review scores out there. :lol:
These Bioware conferences are great! exactly what i needed to see with what their thoughts are and their actions. But getting past EA to implement them into their games might be a different story.
I liked this video. I just hope it's not something to cool down the heat from Mass Effect 3 and actually has little to no real promise. This is sort of the ultimate test of if developers actually listen to the gamers. Sure it's been happen for decades, but now we have the internet, and Social Media, and a straight up PROMISE to take feedback into account...should be interesting to see what happens. All I want to say is please have top down combat and a tactics system. A toolset would be nice too...
Heh. I find it interesting that the first couple of minutes are basically a "these aren't promises regarding content" disclaimer, obviously an attempt to head off future complaints about what was promised during development. I treat all pre-release publicity of any kind for any game the same way - take it with a grain of salt until I see it in the finished product. I was actually fine with the unique costumes for each follower that were upgraded incrementally. The one equipment-based tweak I wanted to see was to have daggers come in matched pairs, sort of like with daggers and faeblades in Kingdoms of Amalur.
I'll believe some of this when I see it. Bioware does not currently have the benefit of the doubt with me that they used to have, but it SOUNDS promising thus far.

@makryu I guess I just have a different perception. While it's fun to get bits and pieces of news as a game is being created, all I know for sure is that I know nothing for sure. I suppose I just come from the stand point that despairing over a game sucking LONG before it's due to come out serves no purpose. Just a different focus is all.
So, in the end, what may seem to be negativity is just stating facts and identifying tendencies. I wish I were wrong, but I won't blind myself to the fact that the presentation itself pointed to too few improvements over DA2 to make DA3 as good as DAO (when in fact it should be better). Add in news of "getting inspiration from Skyrim", multiplayer and the record they set by making most negative predictions come true with DA2, and you'll see I'm not making baseless speculation, but rather informed speculation.
@venasque I'm not worrying just, stating a tendency based on what's been presented. The argument that they only talk about what they can show doesn't hold any water, because, in fact, the only point in which they had something to show was the one about equipment, and still these were just a bunch of basic (well done) conceptual artwork. I take it they chose 3 points because these were the ones they feel confident they'll improve upon, as they could have added more, even in a 9 minute presentation. As for the negativity, you're wrong when you say I based my post in guessing: I based it on what they've shown (and did not show) and in their record with DA2 release itself. I agree that nothing is set in stone, but at the time DA2 was announced, a lot of DAO fans made "negative" assumptions based on what they had seen that turned out to be true. Many at the time made the same accusation (that we did not had enough to judge until the game came out), but it turned out that these people didn't want to face the truth: that DA2 would be quite inferior to DAO (a point even Bioware implicitly agreed with when they gave up working on an expansion and closed up shop, when with DAO we had numerous DLCs and an expansion).
@makryu. Patiences friend. The presentation was only 9 minutes long on a game that hasn't been officially announced yet. The dude said that was all he had to talk about because that was all they had to show and they only talk about what they can show. Just because it wasn't brought up, doesn't mean it won't be addressed. Why focus on the negative when you actually don't KNOW anything yet (just guessing). If you can't be positive, at least try to be neutral. No sense worrying about something until you know for sure it's something worth worrying about (again rather than guessing)
Sometimes I feel like I was the only one who really enjoyed DA2. Yes it has some flaws but I love the world and got to play around in it some more. Felt the characters were fantastic, the art an amazing decision and some gameplay tweaks really enjoyable. As I said I didn't think it was perfect and can understand and echo some of the concerns but I actually really appreciate Bioware trying something new and focused on the good. I played it 3 times.
I'm quite disappointed by the presentation. It confirms that they probably won't be addressing some of the major problems with DA2. The 3 points presented are quite obvious, pretty much they had the epiphany to realize that DA players didn't want their game to be more like Mass Effect. The promises about decisions are made at every game and most of the time end up being just that, promises. Map reuse probably was a rush decision to work on SW:TOR, pretty much a given that they wont repeat it. And the equipment, well let's just say that it's mostly a return to DAO with bells and whistles, which is fine by me. However the things not mentioned are as if not more important: fix a combat where enemy waves come out of nowhere and pretty much ruin tactical thinking; bring back and expand the origins, which were a cool and unique concept of the franchise; de-massify the dialogue trees; and bring back more complexity to character creation and levelling, with skills or some equivalent making a comeback and having improved usefulness when compared to the admittedly lacking DAO ones. I'm sure I could make the list longer, but seeing as they opted to include none of them in their presentation, I think we can safely expect something only a bit superior to DA2, but still quite inferior to DAO. Shame, really, but I had little hope for something different.
Well me I like.If they actually keep their promises hopefully the will redeem themselves.I loved the first found it epic,the second for me was......Meh at the very best.I didn't give up on the series I know Bioware can do it if they want to and if EA lets them do ACTUAL work this time.Having my fingers crossed.I REALLY REALLY hope this is going to work it would be a shame if they screw this.
Loved and played the hell out of the first one several times, including expansion packs....I didn't feel the same way about DA2 I forced myself to play it a second time just to see if it made any difference in the story...and it Didn't. I wish it was like DA:O with better graphics...so I got a DA:O Ultimate Edition for PC and kept playing the hell out of it. I hope we get back on track with DA3
just forget DA2 , except for its story . horrible gameplay , stupid dialog system , same dungeons everywhere . few places to discover . just forget it ...
I hope they will deliver all those promises that they made.Too many game producers promised that "oo look my game is unique the best story the best combat system" and they fail to deliver,example syndicate,DA2 etc.i understand that they need to promote they games but don't promise "an unique experience" and fail to deliver.
If we could choose the identity of our companions that would be cooler than "here is the identity go on ahead and make it bearable." I hope we can have choices like to add armor to mages like we could in origins. If you want your party to look like a unit with armor ressemblence and colour that should be possible too. Bottom line make customization as free as possible and to every taste, not forced so that we'll need to pay for new looks to our companions if we tire of it. This is definitely a step in the right direction though!
DA2 was good fun but it just felt half finished and lacking. better story and more then five places used over and over again please.
@sylvaedawn Yeah, I know what you mean, where are the bows, axes, swords and magic wands. Definitely not buying the game now!
After listening to several years' worth of Brendan hosting the Hotspot, I always enjoy hearing people pointing out their own segues.

@hornydawg That is your opinion and it's definitely your right to make but it is just as ridiculous as saying every CoD game is just the same crap thrown in the pot and dished out again. The point is, it will still make tons of money and that my friend, unfortunately, is what keeps games alive.
As for your Avatar remark which you claim was so awful, why is it the highest grossed film out then? If it did come out, it may or may not make as much as its predecessor, but I bet it make make so much money that it can keep going for more sequels.
A new way to keep the database of old comments small, perhaps? Kinda sucks if that's going to be the case permanently.

@venasque I also liked DA2 for several reasons. First of which was that in DA2 armor for the companions were more personal the the armor in DAO where it just seemed like u were slapping on some random armor to Ur companions, 2 they addressed the Mage Templar issue more then they did in DAO, 3.the voice was awsome in DA2, and 4 the entire game for DA2 was awsome and not boring at all, yes I know that people didn't like the ending seemed like there was no choice, because in DAO the game in the beginning was fun for each character prolog but then the battle part seemed redundant to me after having the same thing happen 5 times with no real difference and then got better after the battle were u wake up in fleets house. If they are able to combine the strengths of both games the game would be awsome. Also I hope that the two heroes of the game will be usable as party members in DA3.
