Coming from someone who never played a Diablo game before. I am still have a blast playing this game.
Never played the "PC" version. But hey this is pretty fun on the PS3.. along with FREE Multiplayer. It's a win win.
I think my expectations were too high for this title. It feels too much like D2 or Torchlight.
The Boss fights were completely uneventful for me.
The loot system is nicely paced and is rewarding but the skill system is uninteresting to say the least.
The more I played the game the more I thought about the fact that I paid the same amount of coin for this as I did for Skyrim. Maybe it's not a fair comparison, but it just seems like in 2013 games should deliver more than grinding endless mobs while staring at the ground.
What am I grinding for anyway? Once you complete your quest for gear, then what? Endless loot grinding only makes sense if there is an endgame in which to use it. I don't consider harder modes to be an endgame.
Sure, the game is highly addictive. People keep saying that like it means something good. It doesn't. It just means you have emotional deficiencies. Cocaine and heroin are all sorts of addictive, and although they are fun at the beginning, they just become necessary to feel "normal", if you will. Is that a good gaming experience? I want to play games because I have fun playing them everytime, the whole time, not just for those fleeting and shallow moments of victory that are filled with huge voids of mindless action.
That brings me to my biggest gripe of the game: the lack of content and story length is almost unacceptable. Have any of the guys at Blizzard played a modern action/rpg? There huge compared to this game, in every way. Hell mode is not more content.... Why the hell did it take a decade to make this game...I'll never know.
I would have been happier to pay $30 for this game. Thats all I feel I got out of it. ...and I buy new games all the time and never complain about the $59.99 they cost, even the ones I dont like.
Onwards and upwards though. I played it and now I'm moving on. You'd be a fool to spend a hundred, or even 50 hours playing this game anyway considering everything thats out right now and coming soon. We are all very spoiled.
Its so crazy because I did not think I would like this game at all. Honestly I have separated myself from Blizzard games but I have to say that I am hooked at this game. I cant stop thinking about and how I want to find new and exciting treasure and level up. I am at work on a CPU I am not suppose to be on just to watch this review. that's how good it is.
never played Diablo b4....D3 excedded my expectations. What an amazing game. Its now 6:30 in the morning and i have to stop myself from playing. Good thing im doing a late shift at work later. Ive finish it in normal ( hard) mode and on nightmare and it just got even more amazing!!
I played the demo on PS3 half an hour ago. It was great. And, God, it was a long demo. Loved it. = )
Does anybody know if we have to be online all the time for the single campaign? (just like the PC version).
Please gamespot, turn off the commentary field. All this hatered towards a fellow reviewer makes me sick.
Great review Carolyn, I'll pick this up as soon as I get the money tomorrow.
I never felt interested enough to pick up D3 for the PC (despite have been a big fan of D2) but with local co-op I may pick this up for the Xbox. It could be a nice break from Borderlands 2.
May be in the written review but I am surprised offline play and no auction house weren't mentioned here. Those two facts alone may convince me to re-purchase this and actually play through it, also being able to choose your difficulty from the start
Ah, Diablo III. I was ecstatic hearing that this entry was making its way to PC originally, as Diablo II was near and dear to those good kinds of memories in my head (ignoring the fact that I didn't finish it, lol). Until my heart dropped when I found that an internet connection was constantly needed to play even SOLO.
Regardless, it's awesome to see an isolated port transition to other means, and even though I won't buy it (I'll wait 'till I drop for Blizzard to let me play solo "Offline") I know that people everywhere are rejoicing and scrambling to get it on with their buds.
And to me, that's all that matters really.
@dipdish I agree, addictive and the reason I'll pick this game up.
@sickzero Yeah, she's good. Unlike McShea who anytime I see one of his reviews, I skip it.
@karin_2049 no its not like the pc there is no online requirement.
@Arachnofunk this one rocks on both
Someone really needs to get over themselves!
@Xanitra not alot of hatred. some, but not alot.
people don't like her voice. many it seems. enough to make their claims valid I would say.
You wouldn't hire someone with an unpleasant voice to host a radio program and it isn't acceptable for other "speaking" professions either.
Disliking someone's voice is difficult to ignore, no matter how respectful you are, and the readers can't choose who reviews the games they are interested in.
One might suggest going to other sites "if you don't like it". Do you think that's what Gamespot would recommend you do? I highly doubt it. Besides, patrons are owed something as well...and maybe they do deserve more professional video reviews.
some have suggested having someone with real commercial quality voice/speaking capabilities narrate all the video reviews. Thats quality constructive criticism in my book.
@Fordy22 I'd like to hear your voice in comparison. I'm sure you sound like a fucking angel.
It sounds like she raised her pitch or they did...?
@nomailx FUCK KEVIN VAN0RD IN HIS LOOSE HAIRY PALE CRACKER ASS
@nomailx I can't believe your English teacher didn't kill you.
@nomailx Just because you don't like it doen't mean it isn't a good game.
@Bexorcist It's okay, don't worry. Some people, like you, are more simple than others and won't always understand the many challenges of life.
@GrayFlare totally agree. petit seems to do so many reviews now. whenever i hear that voice its just just painful and uncomfortable.
@GrayFlare Gamespot should think of doing what Gametrailers does and have one person with a good audio voice narrate all the video reviews. That doesn't mean they have to write all the reviews, simply narrate them.
@eBentl Is it so hard to just ignore the AH?
I agree completely, what a let down of a review...I was here only to hear if that scam perpetrated on the PC was gone on the console version so I can finally buy this game, but no mention of offline play and no auction house
PC gamers need to get over themselves. When does it sink in that paying 2-3 times more for that little extra resolution isn't all its banged up to be. Think about it...7-8 year old consoles successfully pulled off a current PC title...better in some ways!
@Fandango The f**k is it to do with you what other members think of the reviewer's voice? Are you Carolyn's lover? no? then mind yer frikkin business.
A lot less crappy loot will drop on consoles, so they've improved that aspect quite a bit. And there's also no "always-online" thingy, so you can play offline just fine.
All this is covered in the IGN review.
@paulsifer42 Eh ah well, here is a cracker. Chow down.
@Xanitra I know it sounds awful, but in an entertainment (and news is nothing more) industry, it does make it okay. Not okay to hate her, but okay to hate her voice.
As an aside, I don't mind her voice, and really like her reviews. From what I've seen she's very fair and informative.
