Lots of comments argue that this one isn't as good as the original, but I honestly liked it better. This is a fantastic game.
despite actually being WORSE than the original I really liked this game....people only said it was bad cause it wasn't as good as deus ex 1, though i agree its not as good, but you shouldn't shun it at all (like it was blood rayne 1 or 2 :P ...not betrayal that was actually good)
I dont understand why so many Deus Ex fans bash and hate this game,I played both of them, first one is better, but this one isnt horrible in any way.It still a great game.
Watching this review reminded me how much reviews have improved hah. Watch this, and then watch a review on GS, GT, or IGN. It's like a whole new generation.
But seriously though, this whole review is a bunch of lies, the game is outright horrible. And BTW, it's literally unplayable on the PC.
I have technical problems running this game on PC and its not in backward compatibility list on the xbox360 thats just great
I played and finished this for the Pc. It was okay. the physics (throwing around the corpses) was pretty fun. I liked betraying people and going rogue.
BTW, as far as resolutions go, I played them both this time with the High res texture packs, to make them both "the best they can be". And it's probably just me, but I played most with physics in IW. I'd build walls and forts out of benches and crates and bodies, and mess with robots on patrol. Things just not possible on the same level in OGDX. I just love the whole feel of the series that just isn't found elsewhere. I love new tech, and new ways to play. I'm really looking forward to them adding the cover system, and CQB kills to DX3. On a side note: I'm super sad that DX3 wasn't on more of Gamespot's "Best of E3" list for me to vote on this year. Most notably missing from the "BEST TRAILER OF E3" list!!! Are they kidding? It was done by the FF Advent Children team! I guess it's just not popular enough, Hopefully DX3 will change that, and get a whole new console market into the series, and then we can get DX 1 & 2 remakes! Leaked Gameplay videos look so rad, make me want so bad. OK I'll calm down now...
@boozak I originally played IW on console, and this time I played it on PC, and I DEFINITELY agree with you on the menu system. CLEARLY made for consoles with thumbsticks. As for difficulty, I may have a skewed perception because I'm a stealth player, so if I get spotted, I reload my game, so I judge challenge on AI and patrol layouts instead of bullet damage; so I play on the harder difficulties because it makes getting caught that much more intimidating. For me Deus Ex is about playstyle options, and a world with vast depth. I feel like both games had these in spades. I'm definitely with you on the main character voice in IW. I literally had to pick the female player because the male voice is so... "Dudebro" vapid. The only RPG element that didn't carry over, that I wish did, was the depth of gun mods and ammo types (which are supposed to be in DX3 yay!) Some things just need to be trimmed out with the times. Best example: Inventory grids. My secret guilty pleasure. I LOVE organizing my stuff this way! [RE4] Even moreso when weight factors in. [Fallout 3 Hardcore mod] But I get why they let it go.
Now with the game itself, the voice acting is actually notably better than the original (with the exeception of the main character who I cant stand) & there's more of a variety in character models which is always a good thing. But then there's the severe dumbing down of all RPG elements from the original. You're also overpowered and practicly invunrable to gunfire meaning you barely ever have to use stealth, reducing the game to merely a run and gun FPS. (granted maby on higher difficultys this may be less of an issue) Now i'm not saying IW is bad game I have vague memories playing it consoles when it was first released and enjoying it quite abit, but it hasnt aged well. When I first started playing the original I wasnt all that impressed but there were alot of subtleties and a certain flare to it that this game is lacking, here's to Human Revolution having alittle more depth and personality than this one.
@monkeybot13 I understand where your coming from in regards to nastalgia clouding peoples views as to whether certain sequels are worthy of the franshise, but i've recently played through the original Deus Ex and have now begun playing Invisible War and you couldnt be more wrong. I went into this game being caustiously optimistic but it had so many issues right off the bat that make it a drasticly inferior game. For starters it's a terrible port the menus, hud, & lack of hotkeys as well the complete disregard of quick saves (coupled with long loading times) make this a very aggravating game to play. The original had non of these problems.(it also supported much higher resoulutions despite being much older)
OK DX1 fanboys, please explain. I just finished RE-playing Deus-Ex 1 & 2 back to back. Everyone wants to say the first one is 100x better so they sound elitist and old school, ...but honestly? What does the first one have that the second one doesn't? The maps are sparse, the voice acting is terrible. 80% of the NPCs are useless copies of eachother. The second one covers EVERY single base the first one did, even going so far as having some of the the same weapons and even candybar names!
I'm not gonna say one is better than the other, just that one is newer; which can't be held against the old boy, but all too often is held strongly against the new kid. Invisible War is a solid sequel to Deus Ex, and holds it's own as just a fun game to mess around in as you please. (try playing as a vampire! look online to find out what I mean.) I'm really looking forward to Deus Ex: Human Revolution, but I know there will be fanboys crying that it now has a cover system, etc.. I just wish people could accept that DX1 blew their minds back in the day, and sequels will always be just that, re-dos. Enjoy an updated version of your game with some cool new features, or don't buy any sequels and let the memory remain untarnished as your library shrinks, and you fall behind the gaming curve. DX2 got my little sister into the DX world by a having female choice for the main character, and the new generations will now want a DX level of open playstyle choices in their games. And I, for one, think that's something we can ALL appreciate and benefit from. Gaming isn't a cake competition, it's just more and more cake. I say eat all you want, cuz the cake ain't no lie.
i like gregs reviews monotone and neutral is the way to go,just like i like my news. if someone has picked a side or is too enthusiastic its not a fair review.
i just got this game in the deuz ex complete dvd. its a good game so far the story drags you in more than the original game, but deux ex is a better playing experience.
As kaliban said, its not the fact that the character can throw things, its how they interact with the environment. A body weighs a lot so to throw it like he does you'd need to use a lot of force, as you said the character has super strength so this isnt the issue. The issue is that a body thrown with sufficient force to send it across the room is going to knock other things over. Look at 6:27. If a super strong guy threw an adult or even a child's body at you, you would be knocked over. Anyway, in my opinion the first one was better.
i think he was referring to what happens AFTER you throw the bodies and whatever else like tossing a corpse at an npc and it just bounces off with no effect.

I really enjoyed this game when i played though it, havnt played through it for ages though, I think it was 2005 when i last completed it though, but it was a good game and the origional is a classic
He seems to be forgetting that you are a Bio Modified Human Being which Includes SuperHuman Strength and Speed. ALSO and this is how you know he has not played the game The Reason people don't react to you when you pull out a pistol is because EVERYONE HAS A PISTOL AT THEIR HIPS IN THIS GAME EXCEPT FOR PEDESTRIANS!. They are used to seeing guns. The AI is not that bad either. Iv been killed several times during this game and its defiantly not a 14 hour play...IV been playing this game for Four Days now. and there are other routes for me to explore yet..Because so far iv only worked for the WTO iv never even tried the other factions and I still havent finished the game. People say this game is worse than the First game....well Iv played the First and I prefer this Futuristic era rather than a seemingly 1980's Style game setting...Future is better. So I give this game a 8/10 only 8 out of 10 because of the lacking graphics but it was good for its time. So yes pick up this game if you do not have it already and if you are a fan of Cyberpunk games.
im selling my 360 for an original xbox because it doesnt play this game. this game is a piece of art. this guy is an idiot.
*Trust me people, I own this game.* Kasavin can be real stupid about his reviews sometimes. Jamanticus took the words outta my mouth - you're superhuman, of course you can toss things around - one of the biomods in the game (which is a great/significant part of the game he failed to mention :O) is made specifically to strengthen your throw. As far as physics/lighting goes, if you put down the resolution on the PC version with everything set up high it works perfectly fine and still looks great.. and if there's anything about lighting/physics in this game that's not great its good enough. And I see no problem with being able to act oddly in a video-game.. an RPG at that ... and yeah the AI isnt great, but the game's definitely not easy if you just bump up the difficulty and they're not unberably stupid or anything. The storyline criticizm is strictly opinion; I will say though, all sides are either corperations or they're very radical. I'd give it almost a 9.
Oh, come on, Kasavin! You never take into account that the main character is a nano-augmented supersoldier during your criticism of the physics! Of course you can pick up bodies and throw them in the game, you're superhumanly strong!
